Motor Show Appearances: Opel Rocks e-XTREME in Zurich and Essen

  • Unique interpretation: Opel Vizor with bi-functional LED lights
  • Weight saving: PA12 used for mudguard flares
  • Special suspension: Motorsports dampers with special 50 mm spring system

After featuring prominently at this year’s IAA Mobility in Munich and Belgium’s largest urban sports festival, the Brussels Urban Sessions, the Opel Rocks e-XTREME will soon excite the public again at the Auto Zurich (November 2 to 5; hall 2, booth B15) and the Essen Motor Show (December 2 to 10; hall 7, booth A10).

The unique concept is based on the Opel Rocks Electric, the cool quadricycle that offers locally emissions-free driving fun for two from the age of 15 in Germany. The Rocks e-XTREME is the winner of the #OpelDesignHack, a challenge which allowed the Opel community to take part in the build of a concept car. Opel took the claim of the challenge – “You design it, we build it” – literally and turned the design into reality.

The engineers at Opel set themselves a challenging task, as they wanted to stay as close as possible to the 3D model when building the one-off. The Opel Vizor has also been reinterpreted and equipped with bi-functional LED lights from LIGHTWORKS GmbH. The indicator, position and daytime running lights are all homogeneously illuminated and have a suitable heat dissipation concept.

To keep the weight low, the Vizor and mudguards were produced using 3D printing. Here Opel cooperated with 4D Concepts GmbH. For example, the mudguard flares are made of PA12 – a nylon polymer often used for its toughness, tensile strength and ability to flex without fracturing.

Another unmissable highlight of the Rocks e-XTREME are its unmistakable offroad looks. To realise the “off-roader” appearance the team in Rüsselsheim reached out to the damper specialists H&R. The unique dampers were developed especially for the “Design Hack” and consist of an aluminium coil-over strut combined with a 50 mm spring system.

New Opel Rocks-e KARGO: Electric Micro Delivery Vehicle

  • Emissions-free light delivery motor vehicle: Opel Rocks-e KARGO is a new kind of LCV
  • Enterprising: Battery-electric SUM goes boldly where no LCV has gone before
  • Transports parcels, pizza and more: Over 400 litres cargo volume, 140 kg payload

Opel Rocks-e KARGO

Opel is extending the model range of its emissions-free Rocks-e light motor vehicle with a new delivery version. Only 2.41 metres long, 1.39 m wide and 1.52 m tall, Opel Rocks-e KARGO offers professionals more than 400 litres of flexible cargo volume. With its turning circle of only 7.20 m, the quadricycle can manoeuvre down the narrowest alleys. Together with the electric driving range of up to 75 kilometres (WLTP1), this makes the Sustainable Urban Mobilty (SUM) vehicle from the German car manufacturer ideal for delivering goods such as parcels, pizza or medicines, especially in urban areas. Opel Rocks-e KARGO will be available to order initially in Germany and the Netherlands later this year – additional markets are planned to follow.

Opel Rocks-e KARGO: Innovative solution for delivery services

Instead of the passenger seat in the standard Opel Rocks-e two-seater, Opel Rocks-e KARGO has a modular cargo compartment, separated from the driver’s cockpit by a vertical wall. Nevertheless, the driver still enjoys the same space and driving comfort as in the passenger version.

Drivers can access the goods stowed in the cargo compartment via the passenger door as well as directly from their seat. For the latter, the horizontal cover above the load compartment simply lifts up towards the window. If goods are removed via the open passenger door, the cover can be lifted upwards. When the cover is horizontal again in its anchorage, it can support up to 40 kilograms and also serves as a practical desk with a slip-free work surface. Thanks to precisely shaped recesses, there is room for a delivery note and clipboard in A4 format as well as a laptop or tablet. Slightly elevated behind it, within easy reach, is another fold-away storage compartment for smaller objects such as sunglasses, calendars or pens. Height of the desk and storage compartment ensures an unrestricted all-round view.

To make the cargo compartment of the Opel Rocks-e KARGO even more flexible, the cover can be completely removed and stowed behind the driver's seat. This makes it possible to transport larger and taller objects. In addition, Opel Rocks-e KARGO has an adjustable loading floor on the passenger side that can be locked at seat height to create two separate compartments or lowered to floor level. This allows the stowage of objects up to 1.20 m long. Minimalist Opel Rocks-e KARGO thus offers more than 400 litres of cargo volume and a payload of 140 kg.

Electric, unconventional, practical: With all the strengths of the Opel Rocks-e family

Like the passenger version, the electric motor of the Opel Rocks-e KARGO produces 6 kW/8 hp of continuous power, with a maximum power output of 9 kW/12 hp, e.g. for accelerating. 5.5 kWh battery can be fully recharged in around four hours via an AC household socket. Accompanying 3.0-metre-long charging cable is permanently housed in the vehicle and simply pulled out of the passenger door when needed. Opel offers an adapter for charging at a public charging station.

Also typical for the Opel Rocks-e KARGO is the two-tone look of the front and rear, as well as the new Opel Vizor brand face. LED headlamps and LED indicators are standard. Side sills and bodywork further underline robust appearance. Doors on both sides are identical. Passenger-side door swings forward as usual, while the driver's door swings backwards in the opposite direction. A bright, pleasant interior atmosphere is provided by the standard panoramic glass roof, exceptional for a vehicle of this kind.

New Opel Rocks-e KARGO will complete the Opel SUM family later this year. Further information on prices and orderability will follow shortly.

[1] Provisional range determined according to WLTP test procedure methodology (R (EC) No. 715/2007, R (EU) No. 2017/1151). The actual range can vary under everyday conditions and depends on various factors, in particular on personal driving style, route characteristics, outside temperature, use of heating and air conditioning and thermal preconditioning.

New Opel Zafira Life: Ready to Hit the Road

New Opel Zafira Life made its world premiere at the Brussels Motor Show in January and is now available to order from €34,660 (all prices RRP incl. VAT in Germany). The flexible multi-purpose passenger car is available as the Zafira Life Selection with space for five passengers, top comfort and many practical features. The Euro 6d-TEMP-certified, 75 kW/102 hp 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine drives the front wheels (fuel consumption according to NEDC1: urban 5.4-5.3 l/100 km, extra-urban 4.9-4.7 l/100 km, combined 5.1-4.9 l/100 km, 134-129 g/km CO2; fuel consumption according to WLTP2: combined 7.2-6.1 l/100 km, 189-159 g/km CO2).

“New Opel Zafira Life is a multi-purpose passenger car tailor-made to customer requirements,” says Managing Director Sales, Aftersales and Marketing, Xavier Duchemin. “Available in three lengths, it covers three vehicle segments and makes it easy for customers to find the perfect model. In addition, innovative technologies ranging from adaptive IntelliGrip traction control to camera and radar-based assistance systems, and features such as sensor-controlled sliding doors can also now be ordered.”

Practical benefits, comfort and safety are top priorities

New Opel Zafira Life is available as the 4.60-metre-long “Small”, the 4.95m “Medium” and the 5.30m “Large” version. The multi-adjustable comfort driver and passenger seats in the Opel Zafira Life Selection “Medium” entry-level version (€34,660) – which is especially interesting for business customers – ensure a relaxed driving experience. This is further enhanced by safety and assistance systems such as Hill Start Assist, Cruise Control and Speed Limiter as well as traction control with engine and brake intervention. The bench seat in the second row can be folded down and removed. Opel Zafira Life Selection can be configured with up to nine seats as an option. The desired temperature can be adjusted via a climate control system; in the rear the darkly tinted Solar Protect heat-absorbing glazing also helps maintain a comfortable temperature. Laptops and other electronic devices can be connected in all three rows of seats via a 12-volt socket.

New Opel Zafira Life: Top-of-the-line Business model variant

Opel Zafira Life Tourer top-of-the-line business model variant, which can be ordered from €44,600 also in “M”-size, offers as standard additional technologies and assistance systems such as Head Up display, an individually programmable Cruise Control and Speed Limiter as well as the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible infotainment system “Multimedia Radio”. The sound system features ten premium loudspeakers, amplifier and subwoofer, ensuring finest sound for first-class listening pleasure. The leather comfort seats for the driver and front passenger include massage function and heating. On warm days, a two-zone automatic climate control at the front and an additional air conditioner for the other passengers, keeps everyone cool. The roof liner with three reading lamps and ambient lighting enhances the pleasant atmosphere in the rear. The sensor-controlled electric sliding door facilitates access to the second and third rows, which each consist of two individual leather seats: a simple movement of the foot below the vehicle side is all it takes to gain easy entry.

New Opel Zafira Life: sensor-controlled electric sliding doors

The leather rear seats are conveniently attached to rails and can be folded and removed when necessary. The entry-level engine of this version is the 110kW/150hp 2.0-litre turbo-diesel (NEDC1 fuel consumption: urban 6.6-6.1 l/100 km, extra-urban 5.3-5.0 l/100 km, combined 5.8-5.4 l/100 km, 152-142 g/km CO2; WLTP2 fuel consumption: combined 8.0-6.8 l/100 km, 210-177 g/km CO2). Externally, the Zafira Life Tourer visually impresses with bi-xenon headlights including LED daylight driving lamps and Bi-Color 17-inch light alloy wheels.

Edition and INNOVATION equipment lines of the Opel Zafira Life are aimed at families and private customers. The Edition (from €38,310) features comfort seats for the driver and front passenger, assistance systems such as Cruise Control and Speed Limiter, as well as Hill-Start Assist. Also on-board are energy-saving LED daylight driving lamps, dual-zone automatic climate control and additional air conditioning in the rear.

Opel Zafira Life INNOVATION (from €47,650) stands out thanks to Bi-Xenon headlights including LED daylight driving lamps and 17-inch light-alloy wheels. The exterior mirrors are electrically adjustable and heated. The “Multimedia Radio” infotainment system has 10 loudspeakers for excellent audio. Thanks to the panorama glass sunroof, passengers feel as if they are in a lounge on wheels. The sensation is enhanced by leather comfort seats with massage function and heating for driver and front passenger. The second-row bench-seat can be moved forward and backward easily on rails, and folded 1/3:2/3.

New Opel Zafira Life can be configured with space for up to nine people regardless of the vehicle length. Opel also offers equipment options in other Opel Zafira Life variants with five, six, seven, eight or nine seats – some in leather trim. The high comfort does not come at the expense of practical everyday use – already with the Zafira Life S, removing the rear seats increases the load capacity to up to 3.6m3, or up to an enormous 4.9m3 in the L-version.

Opel Zafira Life INNOVATION: Bi-Xenon headlights including LED DRLs and 17-inch light-alloy wheels
Another major advantage the Opel Zafira Life offers for city driving is that most model variants are just under 1.90m high and can therefore be driven into normal underground or multi-storey car parks without any problems. This is particularly important when it is used as a hotel shuttle, for example, but also for everyone who wants to park their car wherever allowed in heavily frequented urban areas.

Efficient Euro 6d TEMP engine portfolio for lively performance

New Opel Zafira Life is also well equipped for all applications with its engine portfolio. The range includes state-of-the-art Euro 6d TEMP diesel engines with 1.5 and 2.0 litre displacements. The four-cylinder engines range from 75 kW/102 hp to 130 kW/177 hp. The engines convince with lively performance and low consumption values (fuel consumption according to NEDC1: urban 6.5-5.2 l/100 km, extra-urban 5.4-4.6 l/100 km, combined 5.8-4.8 l/100 km, 152-127 g/km CO2; fuel consumption according to WLTP2: combined 8.1-6.0 l/100 km, 213-158 g/km CO2).

  • The 1.5 Turbo diesel initially comes with 88 kW/120 hp and delivers torque of 300 Nm at 1,750 rpm (NEDC1fuel consumption: urban 5.3-5.2 l/100 km, extra-urban 4.7-4.6 l/100 km, combined 4.9-4.8 l/100 km, 130-127 g/km CO2; WLTP fuel consumption: combined 7.2-6.0 l/100 km, 189-158 g/km CO2).The entry-level unit for the Opel Zafira Life is the 75 kW/102 hp (fuel consumption according to NEDC1: urban 5.4-5.3 l/100 km, extra-urban 4.9-4.7 l/100 km, combined 5.1-4.9 l/100 km, 134-129 g/km CO2; fuel consumption according to WLTP2: combined 7.2-6.1 l/100 km, 189-159 g/km CO2) will follow soon. Both performance variants are available with six-speed manual transmissions.

  • The 2.0-litre Turbo diesel is available in two variants and combinations: as a 110 kW/150 hp version with six-speed manual transmission (fuel consumption according to NEDC1: urban 6.5-6.1 l/100 km, extra-urban 5.3-5.0 l/100 km, combined 5.8-5.4 l/100 km, 152-142 g/km CO2; fuel consumption according to WLTP2: combined 8.0-6.8 l/100 km, 210-177 g/km CO2) as well as a 130 kW/177 hp top-of-the-range diesel with smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission (fuel consumption according to NEDC1: urban 6.5-6.2 l/100 km, extra-urban 5.4-5.0 l/100 km, combined 5.8-5.4 l/100 km, 151-143 g/km CO2; fuel consumption according to WLTP2: combined 8.1-7.0 l/100 km, 213-183 g/km CO2). Both engines generate powerful torque of 370 and 400 Nm respectively at 2,000 rpm. With the top-of-the-line unit on board, Opel Zafira Life accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in just 10.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 185 km/h.

In addition to the efficient Euro 6d-TEMP diesel engines, the new Opel Zafira Life will also be available as an all-electric version at the beginning of 2021. Opel thus continues pursuing its sustainability strategy and the PACE! plan on the way to electrifying the brand.

Vauxhall Grandland X SUV joins the ranks at Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety Service

  • Range-topping SUV to be used by officers in response to local incidents
  • All Road Pack includes innovative IntelliGrip traction control system for optimum stability

Vauxhall Grandland X SUV - Fleet of eight vehicles for the Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety Service

Vauxhall’s Grandland X SUV is the dependable and versatile vehicle of choice for the Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety Service, which has ordered a fleet of eight vehicles. The vehicles will be used by officers to respond to incidents within the local community, including fire and emergency response.

The Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety Service opted for the Grandland X in Tech Line Nav trim with the All Road Pack, which features Vauxhall’s innovative IntelliGrip traction control system. The electronic system ensures optimum road grip in diverse driving situations and adapts the torque distribution to the front wheels depending on which of the five driving modes has been selected. This ensures the best traction and stable handling on any surface, including snow, mud and sand.

Additional features to come with the Grandland X Tech Line Nav trim include numerous safety and security systems, such as front parking distance sensors, automatic emergency braking, lane assist and side blind spot alert. A Navi 5.0 IntelliLink infotainment system with 8-inch colour touchscreen and voice control adds to the technological edge of the package. The community service added a heated windscreen and wireless charging as optional extras. The SUVs are fitted with powerful and efficient 1.5-litre (130PS) diesel engines.

“We were looking for an appropriate response vehicle to meet the demands of the diverse nature or Cornwall’s rugged landscape,” said Mark Salter, Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety Service’s Group Manager – Assets. “As a rural county, our officers are required to negotiate narrow B-roads, unmade tracks and agricultural terrain, as well as coping with dramatic seasonal changes throughout the year.  Typically, Cornwall has a higher degree of rainfall than other parts of the country.  As a result, we needed a vehicle that would provide sufficient ground clearance and traction to safely manoeuvre through and over these hazards, to arrive safely and promptly at emergency incidents. “

Mike Roberts, Vauxhall and Mark Salter, Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety Service

The Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety Service works to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of the local community. The service’s responsibilities include fire prevention and protection, road safety education and delivery, reducing crime and antisocial behaviour and co-responding to medical incidents.

“We are thrilled that the Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety Service has chosen the Grandland X to support its work across the county,” said Mike Roberts, Sales Manager for Vauxhall Special Vehicles. “We’re confident that our IntelliGrip traction system in particular will prove indispensable across Cornwall’s diverse landscape. Whether on the beach and coastline, driving over wet and muddy terrain or in snowy and icy conditions, the system will increase driver safety and guarantee stability at all times.”

As standard, the Grandland X includes equipment such as LED daytime running lights, camera-based lane departure warning, road sign recognition, intelligent cruise control, and dual zone electronic climate control with particulate and odour filter. At 4.48 metres long, it is the largest SUV in Vauxhall’s range, offering even more cabin space than the 20cm-shorter Mokka X and Crossland X.

Elsewhere, features such as the comfort driver and front passenger seats or tinted heat-absorbing glazing increase the well-being of the occupants of the entry-level version.

Flexible, stylish, environmentally friendly: New Opel Combo Life is powered by Euro 6d-TEMP engines.

For prices starting at €23,450 the Opel Combo Life is available in the Edition trim. This then includes further equipment features such as the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible Multimedia Radio with eight-inch colour touchscreen, air-conditioning and heated steering wheel as standard.

Typically Opel: Centre console of the new Combo Life is clearly influenced by the brand’s German DNA.

“The new Opel Combo Life, which is available to order now, is perfect for any situation. A real everyday hero,” said Peter Küspert, Managing Director Sales and Marketing Opel Automobile GmbH. “Our newcomer impresses with maximum flexibility, a high level of comfort, ultra-modern driver assistance and infotainment systems along with numerous clever solutions. And all this is available for an entry-level price below €20,000. We are once again democratising innovations with the new Combo Life.”

The portfolio of lively and frugal petrol and diesel engines (Fuel consumption[2]: urban 6.7-4.5 l/100 km, extra-urban 5.1-3.8 l/100 km, combined 5.7-4.1 l/100 km, 130-108 g/km CO2) deliver the matching driving performance. They already meet the stringent Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standard that comes into force for all new registrations in September 2019. The units will be combined with modern five and six-speed manual transmission. In addition, a segment first, especially low-friction eight-speed automatic with Quickshift technology will also be available. It can be ordered in combination with the 1.5-litre, 96 kW/130 hp top-of-the-range diesel that delivers maximum torque of 300 Nm (Fuel consumption2: urban 4.8-4.6 l/100 km, extra-urban 4.3-4.1 l/100 km, combined 4.5-4.3 l/100 km, 118-113 g/km CO2).

Elsewhere, the new Opel Combo Life raises the bar with regards to safety and comfort. It is fitted with technologies and driver assistance systems well-known from the compact or SUV segment such as, Rear View Camera with 180° bird’s-eye view, Head up display and IntelliGrip electronic traction control that ensure outstanding traction and stable handling no matter whether the Combo Life is driving on mud, sand, wet roads or snow. One of the newcomers to the Opel portfolio of assistance systems is Flank Guard[3]. It supports drivers when turning at low speeds. And on top of that the new Opel Combo Life is also pleasant on the eye thanks to bold proportions giving a strong and robust appearance.

Comfortable, flexible, practical – and extremely clever

Apart from the unusual amount of technologies and assistance systems for a car in this segment, the Opel Combo Life will also delight families and traders with a lot of space and maximum flexibility while also maintaining a high level of comfort. Both the standard and the longer version of the 1.8-metre high van are available with either five or seven seats. The five-seat, standard length version has a minimum luggage volume of 597 litres[4]. People requiring even more space can obviously also opt for the long wheelbase with a minimum luggage volume of 850 litres3. The newcomer also displays true transporter qualities with the seats folded down. The luggage volume of the standard version more than triples to 2,126 litres[5] while the long version can carry up to 2,693 litres5.

All aboard: With up to 2,693 litres of versatile storage space, new Opel Combo Life can accommodate a huge variety of passengers, creatures and objects.

Furthermore, the developers have also thought about how to transport long items. Therefore, the front passenger seat folds flush with the rear seats, extending the length of the loading area so that even surfboards can be transported. The designers also ensured that the annoying gap sometimes left between luggage and tailgate can be utilised thanks to the optional opening window integrated in the tailgate (standard on Opel Combo Life INNOVATION). Those in need of even more space and even more storage possibilities or those who want to tow a trailer (trailer load up to 1,500 kg) can obviously also attach a trailer via the optional fixed or removable towing hook.

The second row seating setup of both variants also caters for individual preferences. Customers will be able to choose between the standard second row bench with 60/40 split or alternatively three individual seats, which can be folded conveniently from the boot[6]. In both cases, each seating position has its own Isofix child seat bracket as standard allowing for three child seats to be fitted next to each other.

Fit for fun: Unusually for a car in this class, New Opel Combo Life can accommodate three children in their safety seats in the second row.

Furthermore, each seat has a top tether anchor point designed to lessen forward movement of the forward facing child seat in the event of a frontal collision and thus reduce the risk of injury. Meanwhile, easy access to the passenger compartment is guaranteed by the large sliding doors.

Sky’s the limit: Occupants of the new Opel Combo Life will get stars in their eyes with the optional panoramic roof, which also features a shelf illuminated by LED lighting in the ceiling.

The panoramic roof (standard for Opel Combo Life Innovation) permits passenger to savour starry nights or lap up the warm rays of the sun. When the sun is too strong for the occupants’ liking, an electric sunblind, activated though a switch in the overhead console, can be closed, providing total protection. When open, the panoramic roof also improves the feeling of space even further while simultaneously creating a pleasant and light ambience. When ordered with the panoramic roof, the Opel Combo Life comes with overhead storage running down the centre of the vehicle with LED lighting as standard. Furthermore, in this configuration the newcomer is also fitted with a large 36-litre storage box mounted above the hat tray in the boot. This enables for some of the space normally not utilised when not packing up to the roof is used sensibly – without impeding the view of following traffic through the rear view mirror. The driver and front seat passenger can find further useful storage possibilities in the central console, the door pockets and an upper and lower glove box.

Last, but not least the numerous connectivity possibilities ensure outstanding entertainment. Opel Combo Life offers Opel-typical modern Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible infotainment systems with up to eight-inch capacitive colour touchscreen along with USB ports in the front and second to charge tablets and smartphones. A 230V power socket in the front footwell even allows one passenger to plug in a laptop. Furthermore, compatible smartphones can also be charged wirelessly via the inductive charging pad.

1] Works automatically above 5 km/h and below 85 km/h. From 0 to 30 km/h the deceleration metric to reduce the impact speed of the collision is 0.9 g. From 30 to 85 km/h the system brakes to the speed by a maximum of 22 km/h. After this threshold, the driver needs to brake himself to reduce the speed even further.

Opel Panoramic Roofs Make Springtime Light and Fun

Enjoy superb view in Opel Grandland X, Crossland X, Insignia Sports Tourer, Insignia Country Tourer, Zafira and new Combo Life

Brilliant outlook: Passengers in the Opel Grandland X can enjoy an unimpeded view of the sky thanks to the panoramic glass sunroof.

Spring is finally here, the grey sky has turned blue and it stays light until late in the evening. So everything is looking good, and it looks even better through the large panoramic roofs from Opel. The automaker offers high-quality glass roofs that grant a unique panorama view for many of its models. So the bright blue sky and the starry night can be enjoyed in the SUV newcomer Grandland X, the Insignia Sports Tourer and Insignia Country Tourer flagships, the Crossland X city SUV, the seven-seat Zafira and the brand new Combo Life from a completely new and unexpected perspective.

“The panoramic roofs in our Opel models make every drive an exceptional experience. The passengers in the first and second rows enjoy a perfect view, which adds to the fun and adventure. And the Grandland X, Insignia Sports Tourer and co. look very stylish with the high-quality glass roofs,” says Opel Managing Director Sales and Marketing Peter Küspert.

The two SUV newcomers Opel Grandland X and Opel Crossland X cut a fine figure with their sporty design and optional two-tone paint, and the panoramic glass sunroof opens up new horizons. At the same time, the glass roof ensures a light-flooded interior. When the sun is too strong, an electric sunblind provides protection for the passenger cabin. The panoramic roof can be ordered for the Grandland X for €700 and, depending on the trim level, from €570 for the Crossland X (all prices RRP including VAT in Germany).

Passengers in the Opel Insignia Sports Tourer and the Opel Insignia Country Tourer also feel close to the sun. The 1,400 x 860 millimetre electric panoramic sliding glass roof extends over the heads of the rear passengers and gives the sporty Opel flagships a particularly sophisticated touch. It also has a sunblind and can be conveniently closed via the central remote control. In addition, Insignia customers can adjust the front of the roof so that it lifts a bit and prevents annoying wind drag. Equipped with additional functions such as pre-selection and anti-trap protection, the elegant sliding, tilting glass roof is available for €1,285.

The Opel Zafira makes occupants feel like they’re on vacation the minute they set off on their journey. The panoramic windscreen flows into the panoramic sunroof, offering an unobstructed view similar to that of plane cockpit for €1,300 extra. The windscreen stretches from the hood almost to the B-pillar while the panoramic sunroof with electric sunblind reaches to the rear of the car, enhancing the interior’s light and airy lounge atmosphere. The flexible van with up to seven seats is a versatile, stylish travel companion for the whole family.

Soon the portfolio of Opel models with great views will be completed by the new Opel Combo Life. The optional panoramic roof not only ensures a light interior atmosphere, it is also extremely practical. When ordered with the panoramic roof, the Combo Life comes with overhead storage running down the centre of the vehicle with LED lighting as standard. Furthermore, in this configuration the newcomer is also fitted with a large 36-litre storage box mounted above the hat tray in the boot. This enables use of some of the space normally not utilised – without impeding the view of following traffic through the rear view mirror.

Opel Grandland X, Crossland X, Insignia Sports Tourer, Insignia Country Tourer, Zafira and Combo Life with panoramic roof – six signs of spring from Rüsselsheim.

Opel is continuing its ongoing product offensive by launching a true all-rounder with the new Opel Combo Life, a wonderful family car full of innovations that makes everything possible. The fifth-generation Combo is based on a new architecture. It is immensely spacious, highly practical and versatile, equipped with one or two rear sliding doors and can be ordered as a short (4.40 metres) or long (4.75 metres) version and as a five or seven seater. With the new Opel Combo Life, you will be the hero of your local sports team when taking an entire seven-a-side team plus sports apparel to the next match. Your planned family “extensions” can relax on three individual rear seats all with Isofix child seat brackets and enjoy a wonderful view of the sky thanks to the panoramic roof. And your friends will also love the outstanding spaciousness and ask whether they can borrow your new Opel Combo Life for their trips to nearest Swedish furniture store.

Just right for active-outdoor lifestyles: New Opel Combo Life is available in short or long versions, with one or two sliding doors and up to seven seats.

However, more strikingly the new Opel Combo Life raises the bar in terms of technical ambition in this segment and takes the level of safety and comfort to a new dimension. It is fitted with technologies and driver assistance systems well-known from the compact or SUV segment such as Driver Drowsiness Alert, Rear View Camera with 180° bird’s-eye view, Head up display, IntelliGrip, and comfort features such as heated seats and a heated leather steering wheel. One of the newcomers to the Opel portfolio of assistance systems is Flank Guard. It supports drivers when turning at low speeds. And on top of that the new Opel Combo Life is also pleasant on the eye thanks to bold proportions giving a strong and robust appearance.

Compact: New Opel Combo Life is notable for its especially short front and rear overhangs.

“The new Opel Combo Life is a key vehicle in our product offensive. Our newcomer will definitely appeal to families with its versatility and spaciousness combined with an outstanding offer of ultra-modern driver assistance systems that make driving safer and travelling more enjoyable,” said Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller. “This car has a huge potential to grow the brand and gives us the opportunity to attack the important small van segment with new vigour.”

Friendly ultra-modern technologies and assistance systems

New Opel Combo Life significantly increases the number of high-tech safety and comfort features, raising the bar in its segment significantly. Opel recognised the wish of its customers to make high-tech solutions accessible to families and have fitted it with a vast array of technologies that are useful in everyday driving.

These innovative, high-tech, safety-relevant solutions include:

  • The Head up display reduces the danger of distractions and projects the most important driving data into the driver’s direct line of sight, reducing the necessity for the driver to take his eyes of the road.
  • Forward collision alert with pedestrian detection and Automatic Emergency Braking[1] helps avoid accidents. The system not only issues an alarm and a visual warning but also brakes independently if the distance to a vehicle moving ahead decreases rapidly and the driver does not react.
  • The Opel Eye front camera known from Opel bestsellers such as the Astra, Corsa and Mokka X. It processes diverse data thus forming the basis for the driver assistance systems such as Speed Sign Recognition and Lane Keep Assist.
  • Automatic Cruise Control adapting the speed to the vehicle ahead if required.
  • Intelligent Speed Adaptation informing the driver when a new speed limit is detected by the Speed Sign Recognition. If the cruise control or the speed limiter is activated, a pop up message in the cluster will ask the driver if he or she wants to adjust the set the speed.
  • Driver Drowsiness Alert evaluates the fatigue level through the drive style and suggests that the driver has a well-deserved break at the next service station.

Parking manoeuvres are made safer and easier by:
  • Flank Guard[2] - new to the Opel portfolio of parking/manoeuvring assistance systems. It supports the driver while turning at low speeds, warning him or her when there is a risk that a flank of the car will collide into an obstacle (pillars, barriers, wall or other vehicles). Flank Guard consists of twelve sensors around the car. They analyse the surrounding area and warn the driver via the infotainment screen if a potential collision is detected. The visual warning comes together with an audible one.
  • The Panoramic Rear View Camera, increases the angle of sight at the back of the car to 180 degrees so that the driver can see other road users approaching from either side when reversing.
  • Advanced Park Assist facilitates parking even further. It recognises suitable parking slots and parks the vehicle automatically. It can also exit the parking slot automatically. In both cases, the driver only needs to operate the pedals and shift gears.

Adventurous families who like venturing off the beaten track will not have to worry about surface conditions thanks to a clever solution:
  • IntelliGrip traction control, already known from the Opel Grandland X, is an optional electronic front differential which adapts the torque distribution to the front wheels, allows wheel-spin if necessary, and with the automatic transmission adjusts shift points as well as throttle response. This ensures best traction and stable handling regardless of whether the Combo Life is travelling on mud, sand, wet surfaces or snow.

And winter escapes are made more enjoyable thanks to various comfort features:
  • The heated leather steering wheel is unique in the segment and ensures that Combo Life drivers will never have to worry about cold hands.
  • The heated front seats keep the chill at bay and increase well-being.
  • The auxiliary heater works independently of the engine and can pre-heat the vehicle before departure. The auxiliary heater can be activated via a timer or remote control creating cosy and comfortable temperatures.

Organised: Centre console of the new Opel Combo Life is clearly influenced by the brand’s German DNA, with the controls for infotainment, climate control and storage arranged in three levels.

The Combo Life also offers Opel-typical state-of-the-art Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible infotainment systems with up to eight-inch capacitive colour touchscreen.

State-of-the-art: New Combo Life profits from Opel’s leading role in connectivity with infotainment and navigation systems that include colour touchscreens up to eight inches in size.

The fun-factor for occupants is further increased by the various charging options. USB ports in the front and second row ensure that tablets and smartphones can be recharged even while the children watch their favourite YouTuber. A 230V power socket in the front footwell even allows one passenger to plug in a laptop. Furthermore, compatible smartphones can also be charged wirelessly via the inductive charging pad located below the air-conditioning controls.

Family friendly: Spacious, comfortable, versatile

Somewhat more expected than the wide range of high-tech solutions available for the latest member of Opel’s product offensive is its exceptional versatility. It is available as a 4.4-metre long standard version or as a 35 centimetres longer large version, optionally with two sliding rear doors. Both variants have a height of 1.8 metres and both configurations will be available with either five or seven seats ensuring that even large families with their two golden retrievers can enjoy a spacious and comfortable ride.

Versatile: Customers who order the new Opel Combo Life with individual second row seats can conveniently fold them from the boot.

Transporting a large amount of luggage, a considerable amount of sports apparel or even large dogs to a holiday destination will also be a breeze for Opel Combo owners. The five-seat, standard length version has a minimum luggage volume of 597 litres[3]. People requiring even more space can obviously also opt for the long wheelbase with a minimum luggage volume of 850 litres3.

However, the Combo Life is not only a spacious and highly comfortable family van. It can also double as a small transporter. With the rear seats folded down the boot volume of the standard version more than triples to 2,126 litres[4] meaning that getting camping equipment, bicycles or large parcels from A to B is no longer a problem. Again, the longer version of the Opel Combo Life offers even more capacity when the rear seats are folded down. In this configuration, it can carry a whopping 2,693 litres4. Furthermore, the developers have also thought about how to transport long items. Therefore, the front passenger seat folds flush with the rear seats, extending the length of the loading area so that even surfboards can be transported. The designers also ensured that the annoying gap sometimes left between luggage and tailgate can be utilised thanks to the optional opening window integrated in the tailgate known from premium SUVs.

The second row seating setup of both variants also caters for individual preferences. Customers will be able to choose between the standard second row bench with 60/40 split or alternatively three individual seats, which can be folded conveniently from the boot[5]. In both cases, each seating position has its own Isofix child seat bracket as standard allowing for three child seats to be fitted next to each other, a rarity in the market. Furthermore, each seat has a top tether anchor point designed to lessen forward movement of the forward facing child seat in the event of a frontal collision and thus reduce the risk of injury. Meanwhile, easy access to the passenger compartment is guaranteed by the sliding doors.

Safe and secure: With each seating position in the second row featuring its own Isofix bracket, the new Opel Combo Life can accommodate the youngest passengers in their child seats in a single row.

Regardless whether children or adults are travelling in the rear, all of them can enjoy a wonderful view of the sky thanks to the optional panoramic roof. It permits them to savour starry nights or lap up the warm rays of the sun. When the sun is too strong for the occupants’ liking, an electric sunblind, activated though a switch in the overhead console, can be closed, providing total protection. When open, the panoramic roof also improves the feeling of space even further while simultaneously creating a pleasant and light ambience.

Enjoy the view: Not only the driver of the new Opel Combo Life, but also the rear-seat passengers benefit from the panoramic roof.

Best friend for travelling

Room galore: Split-level glovebox of the new Opel Combo Life offers plenty of storage space, especially at the top, thanks to the installation of the passenger airbag in the roof.

The storage possibilities of the Combo Life match the versatility of the vehicle and are benchmark in the segment. The large compartment in the centre stack can take anything ranging from 1.5 litre bottles to smartphones or from wallets to tablets. In addition, front and rear seat occupants can safely stow items in the large door pockets. Passengers in the rear can keep their tablets safe in the pockets on the back of the front seats while the driver and front seat passenger can use either the top or the lower glovebox. The top glovebox is ideal for larger items as it is particularly spacious thanks to the installation of the passenger airbag in the roof. But that is by no means all. When ordered with the optional panoramic roof, the Combo Life comes with overhead storage running down the centre of the vehicle with LED lighting as standard.

The sky’s the limit: Occupants of the new Opel Combo Life will get stars in their eyes with the optional panoramic roof, which also features a shelf illuminated by LED lighting in the ceiling.

Furthermore, in this configuration the newcomer is also fitted with a large 36-litre storage box mounted above the hat tray in the boot. This enables for some of the space normally not utilised when not packing up to the roof is used sensibly – without impeding the view of following traffic through the rear view mirror. The storage box is ideal for clothes, books or small toys such as the favourite teddy bear. It can be loaded from the rear when the boot is open or via the optional opening window integrated in the tailgate and accessed from inside the vehicle via two sliding doors at the front of the box.

Those in need of even more space and even more storage possibilities or those who want to tow a small caravan (trailer load up to 1,500 kg) can obviously also attach a trailer via the optional fixed or removable towing hook. To ensure the safest possible driving conditions, the Opel Combo Life comes with Trailer Stability Control (TSC) as standard when ordered with a towing hook. This additional ESP function stabilises the swaying of the trailer or slows the vehicle as required. If these measures are not enough to avert all danger, the system reduces engine torque even further and brakes the vehicle so that the critical speed range is left as quickly as possible.

Friendly appearance: Balanced, robust, confident

Robust: High bonnet contributes to the balanced, confident appearance of the new Opel Combo Life.

The new Opel Combo Life does not just stand out from the crowd with its high-tech solutions, outstanding spaciousness and exceptions versatility. It also comes with eye-catching proportions. Compared to other cars in the segment, it has a shorter front overhang and a higher bonnet. It looks more balanced, robust and confident. From the front, it displays a typically Opel identity with sculptured details enhancing the feeling of precision and solidity. The high bonnet with two crisp lines, which go from the windshield down to the grill, emphasises the stability of the vehicle. The predominant part of the car is the front grille, where the headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lights with the typical Opel winglets band together precisely and amorously as a defined line. Two chrome wings in the grille embrace the Opel Blitz. Thick wheel-wells connected via the side sills further emphasise the solidity of the Opel Combo Life. The rear of the car is very linear following a vertical design underlining the high practicality of the vehicle and framing the generous opening to the luggage compartment.

Typically Opel: Styling cues such as the front grille and the LED winglets over the headlights make the new Opel Combo Life instantly recognisable.

In the interior, driver ergonomics have played a decisive part resulting in a well-organised cockpit where all the controls are easy for the driver to find and reach. The centre console is clearly divided in three different areas. In its upper part, the infotainment system takes up most of the space. Down from there, the driver finds the heating and ventilation controls and in the lower part there is adequate storage space for a 0.5-litre bottle. Chrome accents on the steering leather wheel, on the door handles and in the air vents add further character.

Under the bonnet, Opel Combo Life customers will have the choice between a variety of turbo-charged, direct injection petrol and diesel engines. All of the units combine driving pleasure with a high level of fuel economy. The engines are mated to five or six-speed manual transmissions with a segment-first eight-speed automatic option also being available.
