New Opel Zafira Life: Ready to Hit the Road

New Opel Zafira Life made its world premiere at the Brussels Motor Show in January and is now available to order from €34,660 (all prices RRP incl. VAT in Germany). The flexible multi-purpose passenger car is available as the Zafira Life Selection with space for five passengers, top comfort and many practical features. The Euro 6d-TEMP-certified, 75 kW/102 hp 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine drives the front wheels (fuel consumption according to NEDC1: urban 5.4-5.3 l/100 km, extra-urban 4.9-4.7 l/100 km, combined 5.1-4.9 l/100 km, 134-129 g/km CO2; fuel consumption according to WLTP2: combined 7.2-6.1 l/100 km, 189-159 g/km CO2).

“New Opel Zafira Life is a multi-purpose passenger car tailor-made to customer requirements,” says Managing Director Sales, Aftersales and Marketing, Xavier Duchemin. “Available in three lengths, it covers three vehicle segments and makes it easy for customers to find the perfect model. In addition, innovative technologies ranging from adaptive IntelliGrip traction control to camera and radar-based assistance systems, and features such as sensor-controlled sliding doors can also now be ordered.”

Practical benefits, comfort and safety are top priorities

New Opel Zafira Life is available as the 4.60-metre-long “Small”, the 4.95m “Medium” and the 5.30m “Large” version. The multi-adjustable comfort driver and passenger seats in the Opel Zafira Life Selection “Medium” entry-level version (€34,660) – which is especially interesting for business customers – ensure a relaxed driving experience. This is further enhanced by safety and assistance systems such as Hill Start Assist, Cruise Control and Speed Limiter as well as traction control with engine and brake intervention. The bench seat in the second row can be folded down and removed. Opel Zafira Life Selection can be configured with up to nine seats as an option. The desired temperature can be adjusted via a climate control system; in the rear the darkly tinted Solar Protect heat-absorbing glazing also helps maintain a comfortable temperature. Laptops and other electronic devices can be connected in all three rows of seats via a 12-volt socket.

New Opel Zafira Life: Top-of-the-line Business model variant

Opel Zafira Life Tourer top-of-the-line business model variant, which can be ordered from €44,600 also in “M”-size, offers as standard additional technologies and assistance systems such as Head Up display, an individually programmable Cruise Control and Speed Limiter as well as the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible infotainment system “Multimedia Radio”. The sound system features ten premium loudspeakers, amplifier and subwoofer, ensuring finest sound for first-class listening pleasure. The leather comfort seats for the driver and front passenger include massage function and heating. On warm days, a two-zone automatic climate control at the front and an additional air conditioner for the other passengers, keeps everyone cool. The roof liner with three reading lamps and ambient lighting enhances the pleasant atmosphere in the rear. The sensor-controlled electric sliding door facilitates access to the second and third rows, which each consist of two individual leather seats: a simple movement of the foot below the vehicle side is all it takes to gain easy entry.

The leather rear seats are conveniently attached to rails and can be folded and removed when necessary. The entry-level engine of this version is the 110kW/150hp 2.0-litre turbo-diesel (NEDC1 fuel consumption: urban 6.6-6.1 l/100 km, extra-urban 5.3-5.0 l/100 km, combined 5.8-5.4 l/100 km, 152-142 g/km CO2; WLTP2 fuel consumption: combined 8.0-6.8 l/100 km, 210-177 g/km CO2). Externally, the Zafira Life Tourer visually impresses with bi-xenon headlights including LED daylight driving lamps and Bi-Color 17-inch light alloy wheels.

Edition and INNOVATION equipment lines of the Opel Zafira Life are aimed at families and private customers. The Edition (from €38,310) features comfort seats for the driver and front passenger, assistance systems such as Cruise Control and Speed Limiter, as well as Hill-Start Assist. Also on-board are energy-saving LED daylight driving lamps, dual-zone automatic climate control and additional air conditioning in the rear.

Opel Zafira Life INNOVATION (from €47,650) stands out thanks to Bi-Xenon headlights including LED daylight driving lamps and 17-inch light-alloy wheels. The exterior mirrors are electrically adjustable and heated. The “Multimedia Radio” infotainment system has 10 loudspeakers for excellent audio. Thanks to the panorama glass sunroof, passengers feel as if they are in a lounge on wheels. The sensation is enhanced by leather comfort seats with massage function and heating for driver and front passenger. The second-row bench-seat can be moved forward and backward easily on rails, and folded 1/3:2/3.

New Opel Zafira Life can be configured with space for up to nine people regardless of the vehicle length. Opel also offers equipment options in other Opel Zafira Life variants with five, six, seven, eight or nine seats – some in leather trim. The high comfort does not come at the expense of practical everyday use – already with the Zafira Life S, removing the rear seats increases the load capacity to up to 3.6m3, or up to an enormous 4.9m3 in the L-version.

Opel Zafira Life INNOVATION: Bi-Xenon headlights including LED DRLs and 17-inch light-alloy wheels
Another major advantage the Opel Zafira Life offers for city driving is that most model variants are just under 1.90m high and can therefore be driven into normal underground or multi-storey car parks without any problems. This is particularly important when it is used as a hotel shuttle, for example, but also for everyone who wants to park their car wherever allowed in heavily frequented urban areas.

Efficient Euro 6d TEMP engine portfolio for lively performance

New Opel Zafira Life is also well equipped for all applications with its engine portfolio. The range includes state-of-the-art Euro 6d TEMP diesel engines with 1.5 and 2.0 litre displacements. The four-cylinder engines range from 75 kW/102 hp to 130 kW/177 hp. The engines convince with lively performance and low consumption values (fuel consumption according to NEDC1: urban 6.5-5.2 l/100 km, extra-urban 5.4-4.6 l/100 km, combined 5.8-4.8 l/100 km, 152-127 g/km CO2; fuel consumption according to WLTP2: combined 8.1-6.0 l/100 km, 213-158 g/km CO2).

Opel’s X-Family of Sport Utility Vehicles Heads Euro 6d-TEMP Initiative

  • Opel Crossland X, Grandland X and Mokka X: Already meet future emissions standard
  • Opel Crossland X and Grandland X: New direct-injection petrol and diesel engines
  • Opel Mokka X: Turbocharged petrol and diesel power units across the range

Opel is leading the automotive industry in the implementation of Euro 6d-TEMP, which includes Real Driving Emissions (RDE) measured on public roads. The brand has already introduced 85 newly developed engines that meet the future European emissions standard. At the forefront of this initiative is the Opel X-family of Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV) comprising Crossland X, Grandland X and Mokka X.

With the transition to Euro 6d-TEMP, Opel Crossland X and the larger Opel Grandland X compact SUV bring a new generation of 1.5 Diesel engines to the Opel powertrain portfolio. Both the cylinder head and the crankcase are made of lightweight aluminium, while the four valves per cylinder are activated by dual overhead camshafts.

Opel Crossland X offers the 75 kW/102 hp version of the turbocharged four-cylinder engines with Start/Stop. With the manual six-speed transmission, fuel consumption[1] is 4.7 l/100 km urban, 3.5 l/100 km extra-urban, 4.0 l/100 km and 105 g/km CO2 combined. Maximum torque of 250 Nm is developed at only 1,750 rpm.

Opel Grandland X compact SUV features the 96 kW/130 hp variant of the 1.5 Diesel, with start/stop and a VGT turbocharger (Variable Geometry Turbine vanes). With a six-speed manual transmission, fuel consumption[1] is 4.7-4.7 urban l/100 km, 3.9-3.8 extra-urban l/100 km, 4.2-4.1 l/100 km and 110-108 g/km CO2 combined. Maximum torque of 300 Nm at developed at only 1,750 rpm.

Opel Grandland X 1.5 Turbo D is also available with an advanced eight-speed automatic transmission that not only offers seamless shifting, but also moderate fuel consumption and emissions[1] (4.5-4.4 urban l/100 km, 4.0-3.9 extra-urban l/100 km, 4.2-4.1 l/100 km and 109-108 g/km CO2 combined).

For optimum exhaust after-treatment, the emissions reduction system of the 1.5 Turbo Diesel – consisting of a passive oxidation catalyst/NOx adsorber, AdBlue injector, Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) catalyst and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) – is grouped together as a compact single unit, as near as possible to the engine. The NOx adsorber acts as a cold start catalyst, reducing NOx emissions at temperatures below the SCR light-off.

Thanks to the new 1.5-litre power unit and the existing 130 kW/177 hp 2.0 Diesel (fuel consumption urban 5.3-5.3 l/100 km, extra-urban 4.6-4.5 l/100 km, 4.9-4.8 l/100 km and 128-126 g/km CO2 combined), which shares the emissions reduction system of the 1.5 engine, Grandland X customers can choose from two powerful, yet very fuel efficient diesels.

The entry level version of the Opel Grandland X comes with the 96 kW/130 hp 1.2-litre Direct Injection Turbo PureTech petrol unit. The three-cylinder engine, which has won the International Engine of the Year award four times in a row, features a Gasoline Particulate Filter (GPF) and is available with a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission. The SUV challenger can achieve a top speed of 188 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.1 seconds (fuel consumption manual[1]: 6.1 l/100 km urban, 4.9-4.8 l/100 km extra-urban, 5.3-5.2 l/100 km and 121-120 g/km CO2 combined; fuel consumption automatic[1]: 6.1-6.0 l/100 km urban, 4.9-4.8 l/100 km extra-urban, 5.3-5.2 l/100 km and 121-119 g/km CO2 combined).

Opel Mokka X: All-turbo engine range starts with 120 hp 1.4 Turbo

For the Opel Mokka X, the transition to Euro 6d-TEMP brings a new, stronger, entry-level petrol power unit, meaning that the bestselling B-segment SUV is now powered exclusively by turbocharged engines. The 88 kW/120 hp 1.4 Turbo with start/stop (fuel consumption[1] urban 8.1-8.0 l/100 km, extra-urban 5.7-5.5 l/100 km, combined 6.6-6.4 l/100 km, 151-148 g/km CO2) drives the front wheels via a manual six-speed transmission and replaces the 85 kW/115 hp 1.6-litre, naturally aspirated predecessor.

Opel’s Euro 6d-TEMP rollout is part of the brand’s commitment to becoming a leader in the reduction of vehicle emissions. The next steps in the journey are the introduction of four electrified models by 2020, including the next generation Corsa, which will also be available as a fully electric vehicle, and the Opel Grandland X plug-in hybrid. By 2024 Opel will become a fully electrified passenger car brand, offering an electric version of every model – as a hybrid or a battery electric vehicle – alongside those powered by internal combustion engines.

WLTP driving cycle: More realistic fuel consumption data

The Euro 6d-TEMP initiative from Opel coincides with the introduction of the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) for measuring fuel consumption and emissions, which applies to all new car registrations as of this September.

Like the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC), the WLTP is a laboratory test, but while the NEDC determines “urban, extra-urban and combined” values based on a theoretical driving profile, the WLTP uses “real” driving profiles drawn from a global statistical survey. The WLTP driving cycle is divided into four parts with different average speeds: low, medium, high and extra high. Each part contains a variety of driving phases, stops, acceleration and braking that represent everyday driving profiles.

Each engine/transmission combination of a certain vehicle type is tested with the most economical as well as the most fuel-intensive vehicle equipment. The data obtained is comparable worldwide, while NEDC values are only valid for Europe.

Real Driving Emissions: Measurements on the road as well as in the laboratory

When the transition to WLTP began in September 2017, the Euro 6c emissions standard also became a legal requirement for the type-approval of new vehicle types. Types that meet the standard by passing the Real Driving Emissions test (RDE) are type approved according to Euro 6d-TEMP. RDE complements the WLTP and measures the pollutants from cars while driven on public roads, Euro 6c becomes a legal requirement for all newly registered vehicles this September, while Euro 6d-TEMP will apply to all new registrations as of September 2019.

Euro 6d-TEMP has a NOx conformity factor of 2.1, which is the maximum margin of error by which cars are allowed to exceed the NOx limit in real world driving – measured in the RDE test. Euro 6d-TEMP will be superseded by Euro 6d with a NOx conformity factor of 1 (plus an error-margin of 0.5) in January 2020 for new types and from January 2021 for new registrations.

  • 2.0 litre diesel adds new top-of-the-range variant to the newcomer’s engine line-up
  • Ultimate comfort with prices for the Opel Grandland X Ultimate starting at €34,240

Top diesel for Opel Grandland X: New SUV is now available with the 130 kW/177 hp 2.0 litre diesel that also produces 400 Nm maximum torque.

The new Opel Grandland X celebrated its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September and recently arrived at dealerships. Now Opel has decided to extend the powertrain portfolio for the dynamic SUV newcomer. The Grandland X can be ordered with the 130 kW/177 hp, 2.0 litre top-of-the-range diesel that delivers maximum torque of 400 Nm with immediate effect. It is combined with the new eight-speed automatic transmission for prices starting at €37,320 (all prices RRP including VAT in Germany; NEDC diesel consumption urban 5.3-5.31 l/100 km, extra-urban 4.6-4.51 l/100 km, combined 4.9-4.81 l/100 km, 128-126[1] g/km CO2).

“Our new Opel Grandland X embodies an adventurous spirit and freedom. Obviously, an especially powerful turbo diesel that promises additional driving pleasure while curbing fuel consumption is the ideal match. We have that in the new top-of-the-range 2.0 litre diesel for the Grandland X. Our new challenger in the SUV segment can unleash its full potential in combination with the smooth shifting eight-speed automatic transmission,” said Peter Küspert, Managing Director Sales and Marketing Opel Automobile GmbH.

In addition, the Opel Grandland X will also be available with the premium “Ultimate” trim, which includes a string of luxurious features as standard. The sporty yet elegant SUV becomes even more of an eye-catcher with the 19-inch BiColor alloys and silver coloured roof rails for prices starting at €34,240. Furthermore, premium ergonomic seats, leather trim, the Denon premium sound system and numerous ultra-modern assistance and infotainment systems promise a feel-good factor.

High-tech with driver pleasure guarantee: 2.0 litre diesel with eight-speed automatic

The new Opel Grandland X already generates a desire to get behind the wheel of the SUV newcomer with its generous interior, cool off-road look and athletic body work. Therefore, Opel offers lively petrol and diesel engines that guarantee efficiency and exciting performance. The latest addition to the line-up is the top-of-the-range 2.0 litre turbo diesel. The newly developed unit delivers 130 kW/177 hp at 3,750 rpm and offers maximum torque of 400 Nm at 2,000 rpm, giving the Grandland X all the power a freedom-loving SUV needs. With the 2.0-litre diesel, the Grandland X accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.1 seconds. Top speed is 214 km/h. In addition, the Grandland X has a trailer load of 2,000 kilogrammes (braked at 12% gradient) in this configuration, making it an athletic and practical towing vehicle.

Despite its feistiness, the Grandland X is very efficient with its combined consumption of under five litres. The engine also comes with an efficient exhaust emissions control system with AdBlue injection (SCR, Selective Catalytic Reduction), which removes nitrogen oxides (NOx) from the engine’s exhaust gases. The watery urea solution, which contains ammonia (NH3), reacts with the nitrogen oxides in the SCR catalytic converter and creates harmless nitrogen and water vapour.

The exemplary values are also achieved thanks to the new eight-speed automatic transmission that comes in combination with the four-cylinder diesel unit. The Grandland X is the second Opel after the Insignia to receive a premium-level, efficient eight-speed automatic transmission. It is characterised by even better and smoother shifting quality compared to the six-speed automatic transmission.

Ultimate: Premium features for highest Grandland X travelling comfort

Premium Trim: Opel Grandland X is now available as an Ultimate model variant, with highest comfort, top connectivity and advanced technologies.

Elsewhere, the Grandland X – whatever the powertrain – can now also be ordered with the latest optional premium-level trim introduced by Opel: “Ultimate” stands for highly comfortable travelling pleasure with outstanding connectivity and ultramodern technologies and assistance systems.

Opel Grandland X Ultimate: Top equipment level includes assistant systems such as 360 degree camera and automatic Park Assist.

On the outside, the 19-inch BiColor alloys, the silver coloured roof rails along with the roof and door mirrors in diamond black give the Grandland X an even more impressive appearance. On the inside, AGR-certified premium ergonomic seats, leather features along with seat heating for the front and the two outer rear passengers guarantee cosy driving pleasure. Aluminium sports pedals further increase the sporty feeling when behind the steering wheel.

The Denon premium sound system, which is also standard in the Ultimate trim, creates an outstanding acoustical experience with eight integrated speakers and a subwoofer while DAB+ increases the amount of radio stations available.

Sounds good: Opel Grandland X Ultimate with Denon premium sound-system.

Driver and passengers are always perfectly connected thanks to the personal connectivity and service assistant OnStar[2] along with the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatible

Navi 5.0 IntelliLink infotainment system with eight-inch colour touchscreen. In addition, compatible smartphones can be charged wirelessly.

However, Opel Grandland X is not just extremely comfortable. It is also extremely safe. Ultimate trim standard features such as the adaptive AFL LED headlights, the 360°camera and Advanced Park Assist ensure this.

Furthermore, Opel Grandland X also stands for best traction and stable handling on every surface. This is also thanks to the optional electronic IntelliGrip traction that ensures top road grip in diverse driving situations. The driver has a choice of five driving modes. The system then adapts the torque distribution to the front wheels, allows wheel-spin if necessary, and with the automatic transmission adjusts shift points as well as throttle response.
