Impressive performance, small price: IntelliLink with smartphone integration from €350
Great overview: IntelliLink touchscreen with iPhone or Android-like menu
Choice of navigation application: Apple Maps, Google Maps or TomTom
Fast and stable: OnStar turns Corsa into powerful Wi-Fi Hotspot
Fresh look and outstanding connectivity: Opel Corsa is now available in Mandarin Orange and with the latest IntelliLink infotainment systems
Outstanding connectivity and entertainment with ultra-modern IntelliLink systems – Opel is now introducing the systems known from the Insignia and the new Astra in the small car segment. As of now, the Corsa bestseller is available with the latest generation IntelliLink infotainment systems, which only made their debut in the new Astra a few weeks ago, and in new colors. R4.0 IntelliLink seamlessly and easily integrates smartphone functionalities via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for an additional cost of only €350 (RRP including VAT in Germany). It is compatible with devices from Android 5.0 Lollipop and Apple iOS 7.1 (from iPhone 5). Elsewhere, Opel OnStar is responsible for providing a stable and powerful internet connection. The personal connectivity and service assistant and its special antenna turn the Corsa into a 4G/LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot. Furthermore, numerous additional services make driving more relaxed. Opel will also offer a further navigation solution alongside Apple Maps and Google Maps shortly in the portable and integrable TomTom GO 40 navigation device.
“We do not just offer drivers of middle class or compact class cars the opportunity of enjoying ultra-modern connectivity and infotainment technology. We will make it available across our entire product portfolio at very attractive prices,” said Peter Christian Küspert, Vice President Sales & Aftersales Opel Group. “The new R4.0 IntelliLink system with smartphone integration available for the Corsa is the perfect example. This system along with Opel OnStar enables fast, stable and extensive internet access for every Corsa occupant.”
Individual, fast, easy to use: R4.0 IntelliLink with smartphone integration
The R4.0 IntelliLink system not only comes with the customary clear 7 inch color touchscreen, USB and Bluetooth® interface for audio streaming and viewing photographs, videos and films or making a telephone call via the hands-free module – the latest generation infotainment system now available in the Corsa is also compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It brings the personal smartphone applications of each Corsa occupant into the car. The Opel infotainment technology immediately recognizes the systems when the iPhone or Android smartphone is connected to the R4.0 IntelliLink via USB. As soon as the connection is made, the smartphone interface is adapted to the 7 inch touchscreen and displayed clearly. Simultaneously, the smartphone is charged.
Clever: The radio R4.0 IntelliLink is compatible with Apple CarPlay and brings the personal smartphone world into the car.
Each system builds off of the features smartphone users rely on most. Apple CarPlay takes the iPhone features you would want to access while driving and puts them on the vehicle’s display in a smart, simple manner. That allows drivers to make calls, send and receive messages and listen to music right from the touchscreen or by voice via Siri. A full list of those apps can be found at apple.com/ios/carplay. Android Auto is built around Google Maps, Google Now and the ability to talk to Google, as well as a growing audio and messaging app ecosystem. A full list of supported apps is available at android.com/auto.

The big advantage of using the navigation apps Google Map or Apple Maps is that the driver always has the latest map data at his/her disposal as updates are made available by the respective provider and downloaded onto the phone. Furthermore, smartphone-based systems display traffic conditions in real time along with possible points of interest – including the complete address, opening hours, distance and connections. Increasing the size of the map section on Android Auto is just as simple as on a smartphone – a touch of screen along with the according finger movement is enough. Another advantage of the system is that when a text message from services such as WhatsApp or Skype is received it pops up on the IntelliLink screen (without the text) and is read aloud.
Always up to date: WhatsApp messages appear on the IntelliLink screen and are read aloud.
Opel also offers an additional navigation option in the portable TomTom GO 40 system available at dealers. The 4.3 inch color touchscreen can be safely attached to the dashboard via the FlexDock® holding device. The device is charged while it is being used because it is integrated into the vehicle. The TomTom system comes with maps of 45 European countries, 3D display and selected points of interest. Furthermore, the traffic situation is displayed in real time if a smartphone is connected. It thus proposes an attractive alternative for company and fleet cars.
From the Opel dealer: Corsa drivers can also choose the portable Tom Tom GO 40 navigation system with 4.3-inch touchscreen.
Stable, free internet connection: Everything under control with Opel OnStar
Opel OnStar is responsible for delivering a stable mobile internet connection in and in the direct vicinity of the car. The integrated 4G/LTE architecture turns the Corsa into a powerful Wi-Fi Hotspot. A special exterior antenna ensure best possible connectivity for up to seven mobile devices – even abroad. No additional roaming fees are levied. Use of the Wi-Fi Hotspot is free of charge for the first 12 months after registration. The hardware is available for €490 (standard for INNOVATION and OPC).
Furthermore, the connectivity and service assistant makes driving more relaxing at the touch of a button. The extensive services includes Automatic Crash Response, 24H Roadside and Stolen Vehicle Assistance and Vehicle Diagnostics to name but a few. The MyOpel smartphone-app is another advantage. It allows Opel OnStar users to request help when away from the car, to open or close the car remotely or to access important vehicle data.
A resurgent Opel continues with its new product offensive which began locally in January this year with the introduction of the Opel ADAM and the Opel Corsa in February and the Opel Mokka in March. The next addition to the new Germans is a derivative of the new Opel Corsa, a 5 door 110 kW hatchback aimed at the enthusiastic driver.
New Opel Corsa Sport 1.4 T - 5 door hatchback with 110 kW
The Corsa Sport slots in just above three-cylinder 1.0 Litre turbocharged Cosmo model and rounds off a Corsa line-up of five models; namely the 1.0T Cosmo, 1.0T ecoFLEX Enjoy, 1.0T Essentia and 1.4 six speed Automatic. The new model is a dynamic and versatile hatch equipped with a 1.4 turbo-charged ecoTEC engine boasting a 110 kW @5000 RPM and 220 Nm of torque @3 000 RPM. The 1.4 Turbo weighs just 118 kg and features a cast iron block and aluminium cylinder head.
“Opel’s engineers have done an outstanding job with Corsa Sport. It’s an exciting vehicle which looks good without being over the top and of course the driving dynamics exhibit the key characteristics we have come to expect of all our new Germans,” said Christopher Cradock, Opel Brand Manager.
New State of the Art Drivetrain
The Corsa 1.4T Sport is equipped with the latest engine from Opel’s ecoTEC family of small petrol engines. Combining both performance and efficiency, the engine propels the Corsa from a standing start to 0-100 km/h in 9.6 seconds, with a top speed of 204 km/h. The 1.4T Sport’s tested fuel consumption is consumption 7.4 litres per 100 kilometres (urban cycle); 5.1 litres (extra urban) and 5.9 litres per 100 kilometres on the combined cycle.
Some of the engine’s notable features include 16 valve cylinder head with natrium cooled exhaust valves which allow for increased airflow, optimized inlet port, reduced component temperatures thereby increasing performance.
Another key feature of this engine is Double CamPhaser (D – CVCP) for increased airflow and optimized valve timing. This feature allows for reduced fuel consumption and increased performance.
Furthermore as is the trend with Opel for downsizing engines, turbocharging is used to create low end torque enabling longer ratios to reduce fuel consumption and increase driver enjoyment.
Fuel consumption is further reduced by optimizing oil pressure, reducing friction and controlling engine heat up and cooling.
The Corsa Sport comes with a six speed manual transmission with synchronised gears, including reverse, with short shift travel. The gearbox has a cable shift system for improved shiftability, sync reverse gear, hydraulic clutch actuation, and low viscosity oil.
DYNAMIC HANDLING AND PERFORMANCE
To further optimize the ride and handling performance of the Corsa, the front suspension geometry has been optimized via changes on the front knuckle to improve vehicle roll behaviour, steering response and understeer behaviour. The vehicle has a lower centre of gravity, and front spring rates adapted to axle loads to improve vehicle ride and pitch behaviour.
The changes are engineered to offer a significant improvement in ride, more stable and safe handling, better steering feel and precision as well as an improved NVH-behaviour.
To further improve refinement, the new Corsa has a Neutral Torque Axis (NTA) engine mounting system with two load carrying mounts to the body and one torque mount attached to the sub frame. This system contributes to the driving comfort, improves fuel economy since idle can be lowered, has excellent idle shake insulation performance and improves the NVH behaviour.
SPORTY LOOK AND REVOLUTIONARY INTERIOR DESIGN
The 2015 Corsa Sport comes with subtle OPC_Line Kit add-ons for customers who want to show their sporty ambitions. The standard kit includes front and rear bumper extensions, side rocker mouldings, sporty exhaust tip, and carbon look outside rear view mirror covers.
Opel Corsa Sport with OPC_Line Kit: front and rear bumper extensions, side rocker mouldings, sporty exhaust tip, and carbon look outside rear view mirror covers.
Sculptural harmonious surfaces and graceful flowing lines are key elements in the design of the new Corsa’s interior.
The sculptural wing-shaped instrument panel (IP) top-pad is enhanced by the presence of an all new leather covered flat bottom sport steering wheel with silver bezel, alloy sports pedals, leather gear shift knob from the Corsa OPC. OPC Handbrake lever and jet black leather.
The cloth covered Moonray Sports seats are designed for comfort and support during spirited driving with a pattern that adds to the ambience of the cabin.
Additional features include 17 inch Dark Titanium wheels. A comprehensive range of 15 exterior colours, 5 solid and 10 metallic.
DEMOCRATISING TECHNOLOGY AND SAFETY
When it was launched, the 5th generation Corsa emphasised affordability and value for money by bringing inspiring design, innovating technology and an engaging drive to the youth. The Corsa Sport benefits from all the features found in this range which adds to the appeal of the vehicle as a high performance vehicle for young people with standard driver assistance, safety and infotainment features.
The comprehensive list of safety features found standard in the Corsa Sport includes:
An Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system which is very progressive in operation. It reacts almost imperceptibly for the driver (sensitive ESC), according to the driving situation, thus avoiding negative effects on the dynamics as much as possible
Traction Control (TC) is standard in the Electronic Stability Control (ESC). The primary goal of Traction Control is to prevent wheel slip, which is what happens when a tyre freely moves against a road surface without gaining traction. Traction Control prevents wheels that are slipping from spinning during acceleration
Straight line Stability (SLS) and Brake Assist System (BAS), is a braking technology that increases braking pressure in an emergency situation. BAS is designed to give the driver a higher deceleration gain than would be possible from the regular brake system booster.
The ESP integrated BAS is a first rate technology to fulfil the coming regulations for pedestrian protection. Even unskilled drivers can achieve shorter braking distances under all circumstances.
Additional Driver Assistance features included as part of the option pack:
The new Corsa not only offers a new driving experience with improved comfort and precision thanks to its new chassis and steering systems – it also makes driving easier and safer with advanced assistance systems. Particularly in hectic city driving conditions, they help the driver in a variety of ways.
At the touch of a button, the standard-fitment City Mode increases power assistance at lower speeds, which is particularly useful when manoeuvring in congested urban areas.
Many of the Corsa Sport’s driver assistance systems are unrivalled in its class. These include 25 Watt Bi-Xenon headlamps with cornering lightcontrol and LED daytime running lights. The static cornering lights are triggered when the indicators are activated or when reverse gear is selected, providing added illumination of corners and obstacles.
This impressive system, that so far has only been available in vehicles in higher segments, offers improved lighting range, brightness and colour intensity – a decisive plus for visibility and safety. In addition, it offers lower power consumption and a much longer service life. The Bi-xenon headlights are mated to an auto-dimming interior mirror, rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlight control.
Opel’s new-generation Advanced Park Assist 2 (APA2), available as an option on Enjoy, Cosmo derivatives and Sport, identifies suitable parking spaces under 30 km/h and automatically parks the vehicle, without the driver touching the wheel. The ultrasonic sensor-based system, which uses front and rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera, measures parallel or perpendicular parking spots, calculates the vehicle’s trajectory and automatically steers the Corsa into a space. The driver just controls acceleration, deceleration and gear selection.
APA2 partners with Side Blind Spot Alert (SBSA), which also uses the ultrasonic sensors to warn the driver of an imminent collision when changing lanes. The sensors have a range of three metres to the left and right of the car, enabling them to detect objects or other vehicles in the driver’s blind spot. Whenever another vehicle comes within range of the sensors, a warning LED illuminates in the relevant exterior door mirror. Impressively, the system is active up to 140 km/h.
The Corsa Sport has six airbags and a 5 Star NCAP safety.
More connectivity and convenience for meaningful innovation
Opel’s award-winning IntelliLink infotainment system, which
brings the connected world of smartphones and apps into the car, is
available as an option on Enjoy and Essentia models, and standard on
Cosmo and Sport. IntelliLink is fully compatible with the latest Android
and Apple iOS-based smartphones.
IntelliLink has a standard seven-inch colour touchscreen and its
home page provides access to five major functions: phone, audio,
gallery, settings and apps. Audio streaming via Bluetooth and USB also
includes Gracenote music management and identification technology.
BringGo is IntelliLink’s navigation app. It can be easily
downloaded from the phone’s app store and, once downloaded, the map data
remains installed on the user’s smartphone, which means Corsa owners do
not need an ongoing smartphone broadband connection to use the BringGo
navigation system. BringGo solely uses the smartphone’s GPS to locate
the Corsa. BringGo also provides functionality for live traffic updates,
accident information, Points of Interest (POIs) and Google search.
The Stitcher app is a useful global podcast internet radio
service which lets users listen to programmes live, or after they have
been broadcast. Once Stitcher is downloaded to the smartphone, Corsa
owners can access more than 10 000 podcasts on demand, including radio
shows and live stations from around the world, via the Corsa’s
IntelliLink touchscreen.
With access to a global network of 70 000 radio stations, the TuneIn
app has the power to offer entertainment to suit the tastes of every
listener. The integration of Apple iOS devices within IntelliLink also
enables Siri Eyes Free voice control. This makes it possible for drivers
to make calls, play music, send and receive messages and emails with
received messages read out aloud, and access calendar functions like set
alarms, check reminders or respond to meeting requests – all with their
eyes on the road and hand on the wheel.

New Opel ADAM packed with driver-focused technology and safety items
High-tech new 1.0T ecoFLEX engine and 6 speed manual gearbox available
Infinite customisation options for trendy buyers
Opel ADAM Group
When it arrives at Opel dealerships in January 2015, the new Opel ADAM will represent the first of a number of new-generation of Opel vehicles destined for South Africa. Developed as part of the brand’s resurgent product and technological onslaught, the ADAM shows off Opel’s new design direction bolstered by a multitude of personalisation options.
Positioned as an urban trend-setter and personalisation champion, Opel’s entry into the luxury mini segment is set to shake up the market with a comprehensive offering of standard safety equipment, infotainment and convenience features usually reserved for more premium-priced vehicles.
“The Opel ADAM is the first of our ‘new Germans’; a vehicle which truly embodies Opel’s heritage of precision German-engineered, desirable cars with attractive design and the latest technology. ADAM takes things a step further by appealing to the modern buyer who wants to stand out in a crowd with a highly customisable and affordable package,” says Opel Brand Manager at General Motors South Africa, Christopher Cradock.
Built at Opel’s plant in Eisenach, Germany, the ADAM is an A-segment, 3-door, 4-seat hatchback with a high level of customer-related equipment. Opel has placed firm emphasis on providing class-leading ergonomics and interior materials, fun-to-drive dynamics, great technology and an overall premium build quality.
The new ADAM also pays homage to Opel’s long and illustrious heritage, and is named after Adam Opel who founded the company in 1862.
South African consumers will have a choice of three models: ADAM, ADAM JAM and the range-topping ADAM GLAM. Each of these model lines offers a comprehensive choice of factory-fitted customisation options, dealer-fitted accessories and a wide selection of exciting exterior paint colours.
“ADAM is designed for trend-setting image makers, people who want self-expression through their clothes, lifestyle and cars,” continues Cradock. “For this reason, the choice of colours, wheels and interior design elements have been developed to enable a high level of vehicle personalisation, allowing the customer to be fully involved in the finishing details of their car.”
Two petrol engines power the Opel ADAM – the entry-level ADAM features a naturally-aspirated 1.4-litre ECOTEC four-cylinder unit with 74 kW and 130 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. This engine, which has a combined fuel consumption figure of 5.3-litres per 100 km and carbon emissions of 125 g/km, allows for a top speed of 185 km/h and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 11.5 seconds.
The ADAM JAM and ADAM GLAM are both fitted with Opel’s latest-generation 1.0-litre turbocharged ecoFLEX three-cylinder engine which boasts the latest in state-of-the-art technology to offer unrivalled performance and fuel efficiency. Boasting a readily-available 85 kW and 170 Nm of torque, the 1.0-litre ecoFLEX turbo engine is mated to Opel’s latest 6-speed manual gearbox. The engine features a combined fuel consumption figure of just 5.1-litres per 100 km and CO2 emissions of just 119 g/km (as per government ECE R101 or SANS 20101 Standards). Top speed is 196 km/h with acceleration from 0-100 km/h reached in 9.9 seconds.
DESIGN
Iconic, forward-thinking, non-retro design sets Opel’s most radical model apart from its competitors. The Opel ADAM introduces a new, modern Opel design, full of attitude and emotion – epitomised by the contrasting-coloured ‘floating roof’. The front ‘wing’ signature daytime running lights are a visible emphasis on the high level of technology available in the new Opel ADAM.
The brand bar has been redesigned to cradle the Opel logo, and includes ‘winglets’ that guide the eye to the chrome features in the headlamps. Significant time was invested in designing the bonnet profile to comply with pedestrian protection requirements, without losing the drama and precision in the surfacing. The twisting surface which leads the eye from the centre across to the base of the A-pillar is a direct result of this. The same minute attention to detail is also responsible for the ‘clam shell’ cut line which separates the bonnet from the grille area and runs around the front of the car to connect with the belt line.
The bold silhouette of the new Opel ADAM has been achieved through the short bonnet design, upright windscreen, chop-top-inspired roof line and forward-reaching rear. The floating roof is enhanced by a chrome embellishment, which runs along the roof from the A-pillar into the rear and acts as an artistic stroke of varying thickness. Supporting the floating roof concept is the optimal-height wrap-around belt line that naturally delineates the glass from the bodywork. Its positioning helps to improve outward visibility for the occupants and accentuate the roof graphic and feature lines in the body sides.
Seen from behind, the new Opel ADAM reflects both Opel design heritage and the fresh flair of a new generation of Opel vehicles. The floating roof graphic creates a large span of wrap-around glass, linked by clever visual treatment on the rear side glass.
The sculpted tail lamp clusters follow the same design philosophy as the headlamps, with a high-gloss black finish and a chrome accent which supports the wing signature up front.
As seen on the Opel Astra, the Opel emblem on the tailgate hides an ergonomic touch pad, allowing for the traditional tailgate handle to be hidden which simplifies the design of the rear. The uncluttered nature of the design conveys an immediate and lasting impression of both design purity and lifestyle capability.
The interior of the new Opel ADAM delivers what the exterior promises: style and ambience in a well-organised and ergonomically-superior compact package.
Absolute out-of-the-box design principles have been applied, resulting in a unique and characterful interior. A colour-coded key fob which matches the ADAM’s exterior colour adds yet another unique touch and emotive element, inviting the driver into a new world where style, design and ambience meet to create a complete and ergonomically-superior package.
Clever use of elements such as high-quality materials, two-tone colour schemes, satin- and glossy chrome accents and ambient lighting which is usually only found in higher-priced luxury vehicles, give the ADAM a premium feel. The gently-sculpted wing-shaped top pad of the instrument panel exhibits a rich play of taut surfaces and flowing transitions. The two-tone accent colour matches the seats and wraps around from the lower instrument panel into the soft-touch padded door trims.
The round, mechanical-style instruments in their chrome tubes are designed to fascinate, and together with the chrome switches convey a feeling of sporty precision. The three-dimensionally-sculpted steering wheel is both visually inviting and efficiently pleasant to handle. In typical Opel fashion, storage has been maximised as well, to especially fulfil the modern driver’s need to store a plethora of electronic devices.
Personalisation
Personalisation options for ADAM begin with nine exterior paint colours with funky names such as Red ‘n Roll, Purple Fiction, Pump Up The Blue, The Greyfather, James Blonde, Saturday White Fever, I’ll Be Black and Silverwalker – each of which will appeal to ADAM buyers and offer the first major differentiator matched to their personality.
Once a customer has gone through the first step of selecting their preferred colour and model, a multitude of personalisation options are available to further differentiate each car.
For the ADAM JAM, the following factory options are available: the TWISTED PACK which comes with either a white or black roof, the OPC-LINE PACK which includes 17-inch Hurricane alloy wheels and an OPC-Line body kit, the TWISTED OPC-LINE PACK which combines either a white or black roof and 17-inch Hurricane wheels with the OPC-Line Pack, and finally the XTREME PACK with a black or white roof, 18-inch twister alloys and the OPC-Line body kit.
The ADAM JAM introduces a new Opel styling package called OPC-Line, which is a new sporty styling kit which will be offered on various car lines within the Opel portfolio of forthcoming new vehicles.
The ADAM GLAM takes things further, offering a standard panoramic sunroof or the unique ‘64 Starz’ headliner which features 64 individual LED elements to create the effect of a starry night sky. TECHNOLOGY
Engines
Supporting Opel’s advancement in technology, the new ADAM features state-of-the-art powertrain technology, safety and convenience features. At the forefront, the introduction of the new Opel ecoFLEX engine to the South African market sets the way forward for future Opel vehicles, beginning with ADAM.
The new 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged ecoFLEX engine, found in ADAM JAM and ADAM GLAM derivatives, is a direct-injection unit which features an integrated exhaust manifold, dual independent cam phasing, all-aluminium construction and a counter-rotating balance shaft. Power output is a generous 85 kW between 5 000 and 6 000 rpm, with torque of 170 Nm available between 1 800 and 4 500 rpm.
Benefits of the ultra-modern, lightweight design include a higher compression ratio, a reduction in friction, increased airflow and reduced pumping losses, a reduction in engine vibration, a faster warm-up procedure and superior engine braking energy – which in turn drive excellent fuel efficiency, improved torque availability and smoother running.
Start/stop technology goes further in reducing fuel consumption, the ecoFLEX engine allowing for outstanding fuel economy of just 5.1-litres per 100 km and carbon emissions as low as 119 g/km – without compromising performance. The 0-100 km/h sprint is completed in 9.9 seconds and top speed is 196 km/h.
The second available engine is a naturally-aspirated 1.4-litre ECOTEC four-cylinder unit with 74 kW and 130 Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. This engine, which has a combined fuel consumption figure of 5.3-litres per 100 km carbon emissions of 125 g/km, is only available in the entry level ADAM. Top speed is 185 km/h and the vehicle accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 11.5 seconds.
Under the skin, ADAM’s chassis has been engineered to deliver a sublime ride and superior driving comfort, with an advanced MacPherson strut front suspension design and a torsion beam setup at the rear. A neutral torque axis engine mounting system has been developed to improve driving comfort and fuel consumption by lowering the idling speed due to improved idle-shake insulation. The low centre of gravity has been optimised by special development of the front knuckles to improve steering response and roll behaviour; strengthened front sub-frame and spring rates were selected to improve pitch angle and rating during braking.
Front and rear damping has also been fully optimised. At the rear, a specific torsion profile angle has been achieved and extra stability delivered by special attention to the torsion profile angle. The benefits of this specific development are a much smoother ride, higher steering precision and outstanding all-round agility. On ADAM JAM models fitted with the OPC-Line package, the chassis is also lowered for an enhanced sporty stance.
A festival of technology
The ecoFLEX Drive Assist system monitors energy consumption by on-board equipment like air conditioning and the rear demister in addition to fuel consumption, indicating to the driver the most efficient gear change points on an adaptive basis, allowing ADAM to be driven as efficiently as possible at all times.
City Mode Steering allows the two-mode electric power steering to react with increased power assistance when the driver engages the system, making city-bound manoeuvring and parking especially in tight spots that much easier and effective.
Appealing to the connected lifestyle of the target audience, Opel’s IntelliLink infotainment system is available as standard in ADAM JAM and ADAM GLAM. IntelliLink allows for fully-integrated smartphone connectivity for a hands-free infotainment experience linked to the power and adaptability behind a smartphone environment. Featuring a 7-inch high-definition touch screen display, the intuitive IntelliLink system is linked to the multi-function steering wheel and with the premium quality sound system provides the ultimate entertainment experience in the Opel ADAM. The Bluetooth and USB-powered setup includes audio streaming as well as photo and video playback.
Much like the latest smartphones, IntelliLink also includes pre-loaded apps for an even more integrated driving experience. These include Stitcher™ which streams the latest podcasts and radio shows for a mix of news, music, sports and talk show content customised to the user’s preferences; TuneIn Internet radio; BringGo; and support for Siri when an Apple iPhone is connected.
More on BringGo
The launch of the ADAM heralds the arrival of the BringGo navigation app for IntelliLink-equipped Opels in South Africa. BringGo is a connected navigation solution which provides smartphone-powered navigation to the in-car infotainment system – available for Apple and Android devices. Android users can use the navigation app by connecting their smartphone via Bluetooth; Apple users need to connect with a USB cable.
Once connected, users have full access to BringGo’s high-end innovative navigation features such as text-to-speech voice guidance, lane guidance, signpost display, 3D buildings and landmarks, speed limit warnings, millions of on-board Points of Interest (POIs), ECO features and much more. Maps are stored on the user’s smartphone for offline use.
Playing it safe
Safety comes standard with the Opel ADAM, all derivatives featuring a comprehensive level of safety equipment which includes six airbags, ABS with EBD and BAS, ESP Plus, Hill Start Assist, dual pretensioned front seat belts, the Opel Pedal Release System (PRS), integrated pedestrian protection, ISOFIX child seat anchor points and a rigid passenger cell with high tensile steel construction and crumple zones.
Linked to the more conventional safety items, Side Blind Zone Alert brings ultrasonic blind-spot warning to the supermini segment, with integrated warning lights in each side mirror indicating the presence of another vehicle in ADAM’s blind spot at speeds up to 140 km/h.
All ADAM models also feature individual tyre pressure monitoring with tyre load indicators.
Advanced Park Assist 2 (APA2) is integrated into the IntelliLink system and is standard on the ADAM JAM and ADAM GLAM. Using radar detectors to find an available parking space under speeds of 30 km/h, APA2 is able to detect both parallel and perpendicular parking spaces. After the driver selects to hand over to APA2, the system is able to automatically turn the steering wheel and manage vehicle angles to perfectly park the Opel ADAM with extreme precision, the driver only needing to manage speed and braking, and the selection of reverse and first gear – another first in the segment.
Available on the Opel ADAM GLAM, the Sight and Light Pack increases both safety and driver comfort. The package includes automatic light control with tunnel recognition, rain-sensing wipers with vehicle speed-dependent regulation and an auto-dimming interior mirror.

Opel KARL: The latest member of the Opel family will be available for an entry-level price of under 10,000 euro.
Small but spacious, a dazzling appearance and above all insanely sensible – this is what entry-level buyers can expect from Opel from the summer of 2015. Its name: simply KARL, which pays homage to the son of the company founder. Customers will be able to purchase a 3.68-meter long, attractive five-door car with space for up to five people for less than euro 10,000. Furthermore, the new addition to the Opel family can be equipped with numerous safety, comfort and infotainment technologies that are unrivalled in this segment. KARL is powered by an ultra-modern latest generation one-liter, three-cylinder gasoline engine. KARL, ADAM and Corsa will give Opel its strongest mini and small car portfolio from the summer of 2015 – and the youngest on the market. They leave nothing to be desired.
”Short, crisp and full of character – the name KARL reflects its strengths. Opel’s new entry-level model is a grown-up car and will appeal to heart and intellect,” explained Opel Group CEO Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann. “KARL offers typical Opel virtues starting with the high-tech, quiet one-liter, three-cylinder engine and by no means ending with our award-winning IntelliLink infotainment system. The Opel KARL is the ideal car for price-conscious customers looking to combine everyday suitability with comfort and modern technologies.”
Sharp lines with character
KARL’s front end sports the typical Opel smile, created by the dynamic chrome bar supporting the brand’s emblem. From the side three precise, sharp lines characterize the smallest Opel. The signature ‘blade’ body side is indicated on the doors and reflects Opel’s sculptured, precise design philosophy. The two sharp lines running through the door handles emphasize the dynamic high-quality character. Large headlights and taillights add to the vibrant appearance, creating an overall design that shows exceptional attention to detail for a vehicle in this class.
Technologies and features that melt small car owners‘ hearts
However, the most important thing is: The Opel KARL is not just good looking, it also impresses with its inner values. Under the hood, it can boast the latest generation in Opel powertrain technology. The new 1.0 ECOTEC with 55 kW/75 hp, an ultra-modern one-liter, three-cylinder gasoline engine with impressive running smoothness and efficiency, was developed especially for KARL. Drivers can regulate the power perfectly via the modern, soft five-speed transmission. KARL’s chassis and steering have been developed to provide exceptional safety and comfort at the top of its class.
The interior of the new Opel KARL is spacious and impress with excellent quality.
In line with this, KARL will be fitted with numerous safety and comfort features that customers will not expect in this price category and Opel will once again deliver ultra-modern technologies at affordable prices. Apart from standard ESP with traction control, ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution and the Hill Start Assist (HSA), which prevents the car from rolling back when starting on a slope, KARL can be equipped with a further safety feature highlight in the Lane Departure Warning (LDW). By means of front camera sensors, which scan the road, it alerts drivers with an acoustic signal and a blinking yellow icon on the instrument panel when they unintentionally stray out of their lane.
New Opel KARL can be equipped with Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
Opel KARL also features the City mode that reduces steering effort at the push of a button as already implemented for the ADAM and Corsa. Elsewhere, Park Assist prevents unwanted bumps when parking by issuing an acoustic warning from approaching obstacles when reversing. Cruise control with speed limiter ensures driving at legal speeds, which is extremely helpful in complicated urban traffic or in residential areas with a 30 km/h speed limit. The fog lights guarantee improved illumination in adverse weather conditions whereas the integrated cornering light function ensures that turning maneuvers are safer for the driver and other road users.
The new Opel KARL has clearly readable and chrome-fitted instrument panel.
The list of comfort, assistance and safety feature available in the KARL can be seamlessly continued. Optional heated front seats along with the heated leather steering wheel ensure cozy warmth in the winter. Summer days are made even more enjoyable by the optional sunroof.
Practically pretty – Pretty practical
The small Opel KARL is not just fully grown up in the comfort and safety area; its roomy interior and driver-focused cockpit provide the driver and passenger with a feeling of space, quality and love for detail previously only known from cars that are more expensive. Opel KARL owners will also be able to be fully connected with the award-winning IntelliLink infotainment system, which allows seamless integration of Apple iOS and Android devices and brings the smartphone world into the car.
Opel KARL owners will also be able to be fully connected with the IntelliLink infotainment system, which allows seamless integration of Apple iOS and Android devices and brings the smartphone world into the car.
Beyond ultra-modern connectivity, Opel KARL is extremely practical and offers spaciousness despite compact dimensions. From the outside, Opel KARL will raise eyebrows from the very start with a total of ten different bodywork colors and various designs for rims for 14 to 16 inch tires. Therefore, Opel’s smallest model, which will round off the company’s small car segment offer from next summer, is both – practically pretty and pretty practical and that for a price of under euro 10,000.
New Opel KARL will hit the market with technologies and features from higher segments.
