!NEW! Opel ADAM combines fashion with technology at Italian debut in Bologna

  • Opel out in force at Bologna Motor Show with its new urban ADAM
  • First Opel model to enter fashion-led A-segment
  • Order books open with Bologna configurator going live
  • Opel brings style to Show with “ADAM & Glamour” event at Opel booth

Opel at the 37th Bologna Motor Show
Opel celebrated the Italian premiere today of its all-new ADAM at the Bologna Motor Show ( 5-9 December, 2012) with a high profile stand dedicated to its new chic, urban champion of individualization. The booth is located in a central position near the Fiera Bologna Service Centre and reflects the importance of the Italian market for the new chic, urban small car.

ADAM’s modern, bold and colorful look together with its almost unlimited potential for customization makes virtually each and every ADAM unique. Nine ADAMs are on show: all are completely different with their own unique trim, decor and exterior colour combinations. This once again underscores ADAM’s huge individualization potential. ADAM combines trendy design with the all-new Opel IntelliLink infotainment system that allows its owner to integrate his/her smartphone in the car, making ADAM the best connected small car. Its compact size means that ADAM is highly appealing to the Italian market and it has been designed especially for younger people or those who are young at heart.

With the debut of ADAM in Italy, Opel not only strengthens its product portfolio there but also satisfies the demands of Italian customers who are increasingly purchasing A and B segment models. To date, Opel’s offer in the A segment was the Agila - a car positioned as a minivan, flexible and functional for an active urban life. With ADAM’s 3.70 meter length, this range has been now been expanded with a solution positioned in the middle of the segment, also covering the growing fashion led Italian market.

ADAM’s innovative design is combined with premium quality and innovative technologies, such as the IntelliLink system, the latest generation Advanced Park Assist II (APA 2), the Side Blind Spot Alert (SBSA) and power steering with the “light touch” CITY mode.

The fashion led A segment where ADAM is positioned will continue to grow in the next few years, according to experts. Since 2000, sales of stylish cars of the A-segment (around 3.70 m length) have risen by around 30 percent and of B-segment luxury oriented cars (around 4.00 m length) by over 110 percent. In 2011 nearly 630,000 units of these trendy cars were registered in Europe, versus 450,000 in 2008. With ADAM, Opel intends to conquer the growing small car market. The demand for small cars is particularly strong in Italy. In that sense Italy may well become ADAM’s top market.

ADAM in a nutshell
Small but with broad shoulders, ADAM measures almost 3.70 meters in length and 1.72 m in width (excluding mirrors). While the chic three door is perfect for urban environments, its driving dynamics including chassis and steering deliver fun and agility in all situations. ADAM’s cabin has space for up to four people and provides its passengers and the driver with a premium atmosphere.

The Opel ADAM also offers premium technologies from upper segments such as the new IntelliLink infotainment system which integrates the owner’s smartphone in the car (Android and Apple iOS). Other features that make ADAM perfect for urban environments are the new generation park assist system that automatically parks the car, the side blind spot alert and power steering including a “light touch” CITY mode.

Prices for the entry level ADAM combined with a 1.2 l 51 kW/70 hp gasoline engine start at 11,750 euro in Italy (recommended retail price including VAT). Premium technologies and customization options can additionally be selected. For example, the IntelliLink infotainment system is offered as an extra for just 300 euro. The starlight headliner with 64 LEDs can be ordered for the same amount, giving the driver the illusion of being under a starlit night sky.

Order books open with “Touch and View” configurator
ADAM arrives in Italian dealerships by early 2013. In other European countries there’s been a great deal of interest shown in the new Opel A segment car. Latest data shows that both potential and real customers have already entered around 80,000 different combinations using Opel’s web based configurators.

Bologna is also the venue where ADAM’s Italian order books will be opened. Thanks to the technology of the “Touch and View” configurator system, customers will be able to configure their own ADAM. Instead of just standing in front of a screen, the customers configure their car by physically touching the cars at the

Bologna Show booth. In that sense the visual experience offered by the configurator will be enriched by a real time touch experience.

The configurator springs into action when various sensitive spots along the car are touched. These spots are also visible and accessible on the configurator display.

!NEW! Opel Zafira Tourer wins “Golden Steering Wheel 2012” award

The “Lounge on wheels” is the no. 1 reader’s choice in popular van segment

Six models entered the “van” competition category but only the Opel Zafira Tourer emerged as the winner of its class in the “Golden Steering Wheel 2012” award. This important European car prize is just the latest in a long string of successes for the Rüsselsheim car maker: both of its predecessors won this accolade in 1999 and then again in 2005. This year marks the 37th time that the “Golden Steering Wheel” award was handed out. So far Opel has won the award 15 times. At the same time, the Zafira Tourer rounds off the long list of Opel awards in the year 2012, including the “Car of the Year Award” for the electric Ampera.

The German publications “Auto Bild”, “Bild am Sonntag” and 26 European partner magazines host the annual competition. Forty four different vehicle models competed in six different categories. The readers, not expert judges determine, which vans and convertibles/coupes win. In that sense, the “Golden Steering Wheel” award reflects the high regard in which customers hold the Opel monocab.

“We are extremely pleased with an award in this category. It’s proof that the Zafira Tourer has met the taste of the readers, many of whom are our customers,” said Steve Girsky, Chairman of the Opel Supervisory Board and GM Vice Chairman. Girsky was speaking on Wednesday at the “Golden Steering Wheel” prize-giving ceremony in Berlin. “Our concept simply works as it consists of a mix of a lounge on wheels and an all-round master of flexibility suitable for everyday use. At the same time, this year’s award is renewed confirmation that we can score points with our family friendly offer. Already in 2010 the Meriva was awarded the Golden Steering Wheel.”

The Opel Zafira Tourer offers a perfect blend of functionality, comfort and premium quality With an extensively redesigned Flex7 seating system, the Zafira Tourer sets new standards in interior flexibility and atmosphere. Cutting edge assistance systems like the second generation Opel Eye front camera, the Adaptive Cruise Control with Collision Imminent Braking (CIB), Following Distance Indication (FDI) and Forward Collision Alert (FCA) support the driver and increase safety. The Zafira Tourer is available with engines that use gasoline, diesel, CNG and LPG. Prices start at 23,350 euro (Germany rrp. including VAT).

New Opel ADAM makes dreams come true at Paris Auto Show

  • First collection of ADAMs unveiled at the “Mondial de l’Automobile”
  • Lucky volunteers among first to personalize their ADAM car before show opening
  • ADAM gets ready for World Premiere - “Making of” video from photo shoot available

The new ADAM, Opel’s chic, small, urban car will have its world premiere in just a few days from now at the “Mondial de l’Automobile” (Paris, September 29 to October 14, 2012), where the secrets behind its virtually unlimited customization options will be revealed.

At the Opel booth, a colorful collection of ADAMs, all representing very different personalities will allow the public to catch their first glimpse of the ADAM’s unparalleled potential for individualization plus its innovative features. Its creators wanted to make each car just unique.

As the show opens, the prices for the ADAM will be announced and customers will be able to order their car. Opel wanted to test how people would navigate through the many optional features on offer to configure the ADAM of their dreams. Four lucky staff members were given the chance to be among the first to individualize their own ADAM.

Katie
Katie, a very outgoing marketing expert, wanted her ADAM to be bold and colorful, so she went for a sporty ADAM SLAM. On top of the flamboyant “Red’n’Roll” body color, she added a white roof and black wheels with matching white rims. For an elegant touch, she chose leather seats. And for the icing on the cake: an illuminated starlight headliner. “It offers a touch of cheeky magic,” Katie explains. Opel is the first car maker to offer the starlight headliner in a small car, as it has so far been the preserve of super-exclusive luxury cars.

Pierre-Olivier
Her colleague from design, Pierre-Olivier, ordered an elegant ADAM GLAM as he liked the sophisticated color combination of the warm “A Star is Brown” and White. As a keen cyclist and to give his ADAM a personal touch of modern urban mobility, Pierre-Olivier also opted for the Opel exclusive FlexFix bike carrier that is cleverly integrated in the rear bumper of the car.

Phillip
A self-confessed technology addict and music lover, Philipp, who works as a lighting engineer, fitted his funky ADAM JAM with the new state of art IntelliLink infotainment system with a 7 inch color touchscreen display allowing him to make his iPhone a fully integrated part of the car. He also added an Infiniti sound system to his ADAM, complete with eight loud speakers so he can always enjoy his favorite rock music and Johnny Cash.

Sabrina
Sabrina, an engineering manager, is an avid follower of cutting edge fashion and has an active, sporty lifestyle. She was attracted to ADAM JAM with its bright “Greenspotting” lime exterior color. “The names of the colors are just as colorful as the colors themselves,” she explains with a broad smile. And to give her ADAM an extra sporty note, Sabrina went for the OPC (Opel Performance Center) line pack which gives the ADAM a more muscular dimension.

Katie, Pierre-Olivier, Philipp and Sabrina will take delivery of their own ADAM in a few weeks. To make their wait a little easier, they will visit the other ADAMs on show in Paris.

Impressively broad collection of ADAMs in Paris

The choices of the four ADAM test pilots are just a handful of the virtually unlimited customizations on offer. At the “Mondial de l’Automobile” in Paris, the true wealth of individual trim choices will be explained in more detail.

With a broad collection of different ADAM models on display at its booth (Hall 5.2, stand 501), Opel will not only showcase the enormous choice of colors, trims and personalized options but also the new IntelliLink infotainment system which integrates smartphones (Apple iOs and Android) in the car. Interactive modules, audiovisual artistic displays and of course a big line-up of ADAM cars will bring the many innovative customization solutions created by Opel designers and engineers to life. These include for instance stylish headliners, back-lit instrument panel decors and wheel clips with different colors. A special display will allow the visitors to connect smartphones to the new IntelliLink infotainment system.
