!NEW! Buick Sets Third Consecutive Global Sales Record

Momentum continues in advance of new product infusion

Buick will set a global sales record for the third consecutive year in 2015.

In mid-December, annual sales surpassed last year’s record 1,170,115 vehicles driven by record sales in China and record crossover deliveries in the United States. Yearend sales for Buick are expected to surpass 1.2 million vehicles.

“Buick’s momentum is undeniable as new customers worldwide discover Buick’s lineup of beautiful, approachable premium vehicles,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick.

“We think 2016 will be another watershed year for the brand with the global launch of the new 2017 LaCrosse, the North American launch of the Envision, the U.S. launch of the Cascada, and the Chinese launch of a new Verano hatchback. Our products and our customer service have never been better.”

In China, Buick sales have surpassed 100,000 units for two consecutive months and annual sales are expected to reach 1 million units for the first time.  The all-new Excelle GT launched this year is the country’s bestselling model.

The popularity of crossovers has significantly contributed to brand growth in all markets. In the U.S., Encore small crossover sales have grown for 23 consecutive months and are on track to become the best sales in eight years for a single Buick model. Combined with China, Encore sales will top 140,000 vehicles globally.

Crossover sales industrywide have increased 3 percentage points in the U.S. this year, accounting for 40 percent of all new vehicles sold. At Buick, Encore and Enclave crossover sales account for 60 percent of U.S. Buick sales so far this year.

The GL8 and all-new Envision compact crossover ranked first and second respectively in the 2015 J.D. Power China Initial Quality Study (IQS) in the large SUV segment. The Envision, which was also named Motor Trend SUV of the Year in China, will end its first full year in production with more than 130,000 sales. It goes on sale in all North American markets in 2016.

Buick has topped J.D. Power U.S. Customer Service Index rankings among mass-market brands for two straight years.

The new Cascada, Buick’s first convertible in 25 years, goes on sale in early 2016 in the U.S. The new 2017 LaCrosse – Buick’s most advanced sedan ever – launches globally next summer, and the award-winning Envision crossover arrives at North American dealers next summer. Furthermore, smartphone based systems display traffic conditions in real time along with possible points of interest with additional information.

On the right way: Thanks to smartphone integration Opel KARL occupant can access navigation apps such as Apple Maps
Increasing the size of the map section on Android Auto is just as simple as on a smartphone – a touch of screen along with the according finger movement is enough. Another advantage of the system is that when a text message from services such as WhatsApp or Skype is received it pops up on the IntelliLink screen (without the text) and is read aloud allowing the driver to keep his eyes on the road.

Well connected: Android Auto is built around Google Maps, Google Now and the ability to talk to Google, as well as a growing audio and messaging app ecosystem.
Opel OnStar is responsible for delivering a stable mobile internet connection. The integrated 4G/LTE architecture turns Opel KARL into a powerful Wi-Fi Hotspot for up to seven devices. !NEW! All Opel/Vauxhall Manufacturing Plants Now Landfill-Free

In total 23 Opel/Vauxhall facilities in Europe are now landfill-free, meaning they recycle, reuse or convert to energy all waste from daily operations. With the additions of Luton Assembly and Ellesmere Port Assembly in Great Britain, Europe achieved as the first global GM region 100% landfill-free status for its manufacturing plants.General Motors’ industry-leading landfill-free count now totals 131 facilities.

“Our global progress in waste reduction is possible because of employee participation, creative ideas, and a strong supplier network,” said Jim DeLuca, GM executive vice president of Global Manufacturing. “Our teams understand the positive impact of this initiative and they drive it in their facilities every day.”

The new landfill-free sites in Europe used a variety of tools to educate and inspire, from recycling courses to training videos that help them understand the environmental benefits and business case. Some plants designate a champion in every unit of the plant to help ensure employee participation, and recognize team members driving significant progress.

All landfill-free sites will continue to improve their efforts and reduce total waste whenever possible.

“We at Opel/Vauxhall see waste as a resource out of place and want to go beyond the classical waste reduction targets that you usually reach by optimization of existing processes. Only if you understand waste as raw material you start to rethink your current processes and develop new ways to run your business differently. Strategically we do not only want to be landfill-free, we want to improve the re-use of material”, says Dr. Renate Adam, Manager Environmental Compliance and Sustainability, Opel/Vauxhall Europe.

GM teams around the world are working toward achieving 150 landfill-free sites globally by 2020. The company received a Top Project of the Year Award from Environmental Leader for driving a global movement for zero waste and outlines its best practices in its blueprint, "The Business Case for Zero Waste”.

!NEW! Opel Goes On the Offensive with Fuel Consumption and Emission

  • Engineering initiative for more transparency and credibility
  • From Q2 2016, Opel will start publishing WLTP cycle fuel consumption numbers for specific models reflecting more everyday driving conditions
  • Engineers developing improved SCR diesel applications – improvement towards RDE NOx specifications, including voluntary customer satisfaction field action

Opel is voluntarily taking the next step to meet future emissions guidelines, both on CO2 and NOx. From Q2 2016, and in addition to the official fuel consumption and CO2 information, fuel consumption numbers recorded under the WLTP cycle will also be published. In addition, diesel engineers have recently started working on an initiative to implement NOx emission improvements on SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) diesel applications. This is a voluntary and early improvement towards the so-called RDE (Real Driving Emissions) legislation that goes into effect in 2017. Opel is committed to providing the testing authorities transparency.

“The events and discussions in the last weeks and months have shown that there is a tremendous focus on the automotive industry and it is now time to act based on the learnings,” says Opel Group CEO Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann. “It is obvious to me that the diesel discussion is a turning point. The world is not as it was before. We cannot ignore this and it is in the hands of the automotive industry to change the perception of the new reality.”

Fuel Consumption and CO2

From Q2 2016, and in addition to the official fuel consumption and CO2 information of Opel models, fuel consumption numbers recorded under the WLTP cycle will be published, starting with the new Astra. This procedure has broad industry acceptance and has been developed to be more representative of what customers will experience in use.

According to EU plans, the “New European Driving Cycle” (NEDC) will be replaced starting in 2017 with the more modern standard “Worldwide Harmonized Light Duty Vehicles Test Procedure” (WLTP). The WLTP – also a test conducted in laboratory conditions – is based on stringent test procedures, more consistent with fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in real-life road traffic. This new test cycle is important to maintain standardized, reproducible and comparable results.

SCR Technology

Related to NOx emissions, Opel is also acting right now. The Rüsselsheim automaker has started working on improved solutions for the effectiveness of exhaust gas treatment systems in Euro 6 diesel engines with SCR technology to make improvements in the direction of future RDE guidelines. RDE is the real driving emissions standard which supplements current test methods and measures a car’s emissions directly on the road.

"Our analyses in the last months show that we have no devices that tell us if our vehicles are in a test cycle or not. Nevertheless, we also believe that we are capable of further improving the effectiveness of reduction of oxides of nitrogen emissions from our Euro 6 diesels with SCR technology and so we are making an improvement towards future RDE specifications,” emphasizes Dr. Neumann. “We will use SCR as the mainstream system for Euro 6 diesel going forward as we continue to develop improved technologies to explore higher efficiencies.”

The work on this Euro 6 SCR improvement has started and we expect a production implementation as of the summer of 2016. This activity will also include a voluntary customer satisfaction field action that will involve 43.000 vehicles that are already on the road in Europe (Zafira Tourer, Insignia and Cascada). These vehicles will get a new calibration once it becomes available.

Opel CEO Dr. Neumann also calls for improving the transparency between automakers and authorities in Europe. “In the USA, the companies disclose their complete calibration philosophy to authorities. I would like to see us embrace this practice in Europe.” In this context, the Opel CEO also wants to suggest that all automakers that are active in Europe take part in a negotiated agreement for more transparency.

!NEW! Vauxhall Completes Largest Ever Police Fleet Deal

  • Police forces nationwide sign 2,000 vehicle contract
  • Order includes 1,200 arresting Astras bound for UK forces

Vauxhall has signed one of the UK’s biggest Police fleet deals with over 2,000 vehicles, including 1,200 Brit-built Astras, destined for Police forces nationwide under a huge group tender.

The two-year multi-million pound contract also includes Corsas, Insignias and Brit-built Vivaro vans. This order cements Vauxhall’s position as the largest provider of low and intermediate performance cars to the UK Police, with a 60 per cent share of competitive markets.

All Astra models can be equipped with the ground-breaking OnStar technology which keeps the car connected via satellite and cellular networks, turning the vehicle in to a high-speed 4G LTE mobile hub with connectivity for up to seven smartphones or tablets. OnStar even includes a Police-spec ignition block, which can be triggered remotely in the event of a vehicle being stolen.

Procurement for the mammoth sale was led by West Midlands Police with vehicles set to join 28 Police forces including:

  • Avon and Somerset
  • Bedfordshire
  • British Transport Police
  • Cambridgeshire
  • City of London Police
  • Civil Nuclear Constabulary
  • Devon and Cornwall
  • Dorset
  • Essex
  • Gloucestershire
  • Hampshire
  • Hertfordshire
  • Kent
  • Leicestershire
  • Lincolnshire
  • Norfolk
  • Northamptonshire
  • Northumbria
  • Nottinghamshire
  • Staffordshire
  • Suffolk
  • Surrey
  • Sussex
  • Thames Valley
  • Warwickshire
  • West Mercia
  • West Midlands
  • Wiltshire
Six fire and rescue services are also included in the agreement which sees vehicles heading to East and West Sussex, Northamptonshire, Shropshire, Surrey and Staffordshire.

David Wilkin, West Midlands Police’s Director of Resources and the national policing lead for the procurement of vehicles commented: “A vehicle purchasing collaboration between police forces and partners on this scale has never been seen before and I am delighted to say that it has been a huge success in terms of the savings made and how well the organisations have worked together.

“The success of this group builds on the achievements of a large scale vehicle procurement project led by West Yorkshire Police earlier in the year. While cost is clearly a driving factor, the most important aspect is that these vehicles need to be the safest ones available for our staff and the public.”

“We are delighted to supply the Police with this huge order,” said Rory Harvey, Vauxhall’s Chairman and Managing Director. “Efficiency is a top priority for all Police forces and the investment made in these Vauxhalls will mean officers spend more time preventing crime.”

The Opel ADAM is bright and colorful, boasting new hues such as Orange Alert and Brownian Rhapsody. It is unique thanks to its virtually endless personalization possibilities. It features top connectivity – the ADAM introduced the award-winning IntelliLink infotainment technology. And now Opel is going one step further with its individualization champion: every member of the stylish mini family is available with the latest IntelliLink generation including smartphone integration and Opel OnStar – the ADAM is clearly a real trendsetter.

“The Opel ADAM in all its variants is the perfect example of how much individuality and technology can be packed into a small car. And with the new smartphone-compatible IntelliLink system and Opel OnStar, we boost our successful lifestyle mini onto a higher level,” says Jürgen Keller, Executive Director Sales, Marketing & Aftersales Germany. “So more than ever, the ADAM is becoming its owner’s personal home on wheels.”

As usual, all this comes at very affordable prices: the infotainment system IntelliLink R4.0 is available for just €350 (RRP incl. VAT in Germany); the hardware for the personal connectivity and service assistant Opel OnStar is free with ADAM SLAM and ADAM GLAM and otherwise available for €490 – while use of the Wi-Fi Hotspot is free of charge with all variants for the first 12 months following registration. This means private phone accounts are not charged, because those who connect their smartphones to Opel OnStar enjoy free navigation. And the ADAM family has another option lined up: as a smartphone-free solution, Opel dealers offer the portable TomTom Go 40 navigation device including FlexDock® that can be integrated into the ADAM. Furthermore, a wireless charging station for suitable smartphones for the central stack can be ordered for €135.

Wireless charging: A special place on the central stack of the Opel ADAM has been reserved for wireless charging of suitable smartphones.

IntelliLink R4.0: And your own smartphone with apps works in the car

USB connection: IntelliLink R4.0 brings the world of smartphones to the Opel ADAM via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Praised for its clear 7 inch color touchscreen, connectivity options via USB and Bluetooth® for audio streaming and viewing photographs, videos and films or making a telephone call via the hands-free module – Opel makes the latest generation of its IntelliLink system even more functional. The new IntelliLink R4.0 – which made its debut at this year’s IAA in the Astra – now even more comprehensively integrates the world of smartphones via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto into the vehicle.

Plug and play: IntelliLink R4.0 brings the world of smartphones to the Opel ADAM via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Drivers and passengers simply need devices from Android 5.0 Lollipop and Apple iOS 7.1 (from iPhone 5). It is all fast and easy: simply connect the iPhone or Android smartphone to the IntelliLink R4.0 via USB, and the Opel infotainment technology immediately recognizes the systems and adapts the smartphone interface to the 7 inch IntelliLink touchscreen. Drivers can make calls, send and receive messages and listen to music right from the touchscreen or by voice via Siri. Android Auto is built around Google Maps, Google Now and the ability to talk to Google, as well as a growing audio and messaging app ecosystem.

Clever: IntelliLink R4.0 can read out messages from WhatsApp or Skype without affecting the navigation via Google Maps.
The Google Maps and Apple Maps navigation apps are easy to use: updates are automatically downloaded onto the phone by the respective provider, so the driver always has the latest map data online. Changing the size of the map section on Android Auto is simply done by touching the screen and pinching or zooming accordingly. Another advantage is that smartphone-based systems provide information on traffic conditions in real time along with possible points of interest – including the complete address, opening hours and further details. When a text message from services such as WhatsApp or Skype is received, Android users can have it read out loud to them so they can keep their eyes on the road.

Familiar handling: The touch sensitive 7-inch color touchscreen of the Opel IntelliLink system offers similar handling to a smartphone – the map size can be changed with a simple gesture.
Opel also offers a third navigation option with the portable TomTom GO 40 system. Available at dealers as an accessory, it comes with maps of 45 European countries, 3D display and selected points of interest. Furthermore, the traffic situation is displayed in real time if a smartphone is connected. TomTom GO 40 also offers additional useful functions: it shows what streets are congested and why – and what impact this has on ADAM drivers in terms of the delay they must reckon with. As the system already indicates traffic jams as they form, drivers have plenty of time to choose an alternate route. To avoid distracting drivers from the road, the 4.3 inch color touchscreen can be safely attached to the dashboard via the FlexDock® holding device directly in their line of sight. The device is simultaneously charged.

Third navigation option: The portable TomTom GO 40 with 3D display and traffic updates in real time is available at Opel dealers.

Opel OnStar on board: And the ADAM turns into a mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot

Opel OnStar enables stable use of all internet-based services. The personal connectivity and service assistant with its special antenna turns the ADAM into a 4G/LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot. Up to seven mobile devices can be connected to the system at the same time – even abroad. No additional roaming fees are levied.

Opel OnStar offers an all-round carefree package, with services including Automatic Crash Response, 24H Roadside and Stolen Vehicle Assistance and Vehicle Diagnostics to name but a few. The myOpel smartphone-app allows Opel OnStar users to request help when away from the car, to open or close the car remotely or to access important vehicle data.

!NEW! Opel Continues to Grow in South Africa

November total industry sales came in at 51 256 vehicles, slightly behind November 2014 sales of 51 055 units. Year to date November 2015 industry sales are 4.1 percent down over the same period last year (568 584 vs 592 839).

General Motors South Africa (GMSA) sales for November 2015 were 4550 units across all three brands at NAAMSA level with strong performances from Opel and Isuzu as well as Chevrolet Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV).

Isuzu made the best of the recently refreshed KB with 1263 units sold in November. November sales represented the highest double cab sales in 17 months, driven by the all-new 250 High Rider double cab model.

Opel ADAM Rocks

A key highlight for GMSA is the continuing growth of the Opel brand with the fashionable super mini Opel ADAM boutique hatch leading the charge. ADAM has consistently outperformed competitors in the boutique mini segment of the market with 1 474 units sold since January 2015. The November sales figure of 265 units represents ADAM’s second best month this year coming just short of the February 2015 highlight of 280 units. Buoyed by the success of the trio of “new Germans”, Corsa, Mokka, and ADAM, the overall Opel brand sales are up 70 percent, 5 917 versus 3 479 units, compared to the same period last year.

Chevrolet sales were led by the Utility in November which sold 1 234 units. Year to date sales for Chevrolet now stand at 29 131 units with 5.1 percent share of the total industry.

“2015 has been a tough year for South African consumers and this is reflected in the declining industry sales. Despite tough trading conditions we plan on closing the year on a strong note with encouraging performances from our Chevrolet and Isuzu LCV products. We expect Opel to attract new buyers and continue the sales momentum well into the new year as our new technologically advanced products find traction in our market,” says Brian Olson, Vice President Vehicle Sales, Service, and Marketing for GM Sub-Saharan Africa.

Individual, fast, easy to use: R4.0 IntelliLink with smartphone integration

The R4.0 IntelliLink system not only comes with the customary clear 7 inch color touchscreen, USB and Bluetooth® interface for audio streaming and viewing photographs, videos and films or making a telephone call via the hands-free module – the latest generation infotainment system now available in the Corsa is also compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. That allows drivers to make calls, send and receive messages and listen to music right from the touchscreen or by voice via Siri. A full list of those apps can be found at apple.com/ios/carplay. Android Auto is built around Google Maps, Google Now and the ability to talk to Google, as well as a growing audio and messaging app ecosystem. A full list of supported apps is available at android.com/auto.

Clever: The radio R4.0 IntelliLink is compatible with Android Auto and brings the personal smartphone world into the car.
The big advantage of using the navigation apps Google Map or Apple Maps is that the driver always has the latest map data at his/her disposal as updates are made available by the respective provider and downloaded onto the phone. Furthermore, smartphone-based systems display traffic conditions in real time along with possible points of interest – including the complete address, opening hours, distance and connections. Increasing the size of the map section on Android Auto is just as simple as on a smartphone – a touch of screen along with the according finger movement is enough. Another advantage of the system is that when a text message from services such as WhatsApp or Skype is received it pops up on the IntelliLink screen (without the text) and is read aloud.

Always up to date: WhatsApp messages appear on the IntelliLink screen and are read aloud.
Opel also offers an additional navigation option in the portable TomTom GO 40 system available at dealers. The 4.3 inch color touchscreen can be safely attached to the dashboard via the FlexDock® holding device. The device is charged while it is being used because it is integrated into the vehicle. The TomTom system comes with maps of 45 European countries, 3D display and selected points of interest. Furthermore, the traffic situation is displayed in real time if a smartphone is connected. It thus proposes an attractive alternative for company and fleet cars.

The extensive services includes Automatic Crash Response, 24H Roadside and Stolen Vehicle Assistance and Vehicle Diagnostics to name but a few. The MyOpel smartphone-app is another advantage. It allows Opel OnStar users to request help when away from the car, to open or close the car remotely or to access important vehicle data.

!NEW! All-New Opel Astra in the Acoustic Lab

  • Dynamic, smooth, comfortable: New engines for pleasant sound
  • No din: “Dummy heads” as sensitive as the human hearing

In the acoustic lab: New Opel Astra is positioned in the center of the room and is surrounded by numerous microphones.
Silence. It is so quiet in the unusual looking room that you could literally hear a pin drop. The new Opel Astra is positioned in the center of the room and is surrounded by numerous microphones. Is the engine sound of the new compact class star being recorded for the next advertising campaign? Not quite. When the Opel Astra arrives in the acoustic lab, it is still in the final phase of being made ready for series production. The engineers around Bernd Justen are partly responsible for making sure that the new Astra really is a quantum leap. They ensure that the compact class car meets the demanding noise requirements and test the Astra thoroughly in the Opel acoustic lab in Rüsselsheim. Apart from being tested on the comfort and noise evaluation track at the Opel Test Center in Rodgau-Dudenhofen, all new models developed by the carmaker have to come here for final testing.

Noise & vibration: All good under the Opel Astra hood

The dynamic sound of the vehicle while simultaneously delivering excellent running smoothness was always high on the list of specifications of the new Opel Astra. Primarily, the turbo-charged gasoline and diesel engines of the latest generation that power the Opel Astra and make its athletic appearance audible ensure this. “That is only one aspect we check in the acoustic lab,” explains Bernd Justen, Vehicle Performance Manager for compact class cars. Moreover, the Astra is put through an extensive and precisely defined requirements list. “Apart from the appropriate sound of the engine or rolling noise, this includes the sound made by closing a door or the clicking of the indicator. We initially check the simulation-based basic settings. Based on this we keep on working until the Astra meets our noise requirements.”

On the roller test bench: The engines offer a pleasant and dynamic sound experience – and reduces noise levels in the cabin.
The walls and the ceiling of the lab are completely soundproof thanks to noise absorbing materials. During testing, the Opel Astra is driven on large floor rollers, which produce the same resistance the car would experience on the road from wind and rolling friction. “This enables driving with road-like loads. It does not depend on the weather and we can test various scenarios under consistent conditions,” said Justen. These tests include idle behavior, the Start/Stop function and driving under part or full engine load for example. The highly sensitive microphones record all noises so they can be analyzed afterwards.

Meets all noise requirements: All-New Opel Astra in the acoustic lab in Rüsselsheim.
A typical procedure on the roller test bench is ‘full-load, rev-up’ in third gear – a demanding test that the all-new 1.4 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo, a four-cylinder Opel unit from the same engine family as the innovative one-liter, three-cylinder engine, passes with flying colors while always remaining within the pre-defined tolerance curve for cabin noise. Just like the three-cylinder engine, the 92 kW/125 hp or 110 kW/150 hp unit was developed with setting new standards in noise and vibration characteristics in mind (fuel consumption combined: 5.5-4.9 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 128-114 g/km). The outstanding refinement was achieved through the noise-optimized engine block design. The implemented measures to reduce the noise level included splitting the oil pan, noise protecting the integration of the cylinder head into the exhaust manifold, designing a sound-absorbing cam cover, decoupling the high-pressure injection valves and trimming the timing chain for quiet concentricity. The test bench quickly reveals that the engineers did an outstanding job: The engines offer a pleasant and dynamic sound experience – and reduces noise levels in the cabin.

“Dummy head” tested: Pleasant sound in the Opel Astra cabin

“Our dummy heads confirm the exemplary noise level,” explains Justen, referring to the weird looking figures in the Opel Astra cabin that are reminiscent of mannequins. Plastic effigies of the human head and shoulder area that possess a perfect replica of all acoustically relevant elements of the human outer ear adorn the seats. “There are highly sensitive microphones fitted in the ears of dummy heads too. They allow us to record and replay noises in the same way that a ‘real’ human would perceive them.” This enables stereo recording and replaying, as well as differentiation between the upward and downward direction of noise, making the dummy’s hearing virtually three-dimensional.

To achieve the desired vehicle sound that is pleasant for occupants, a binaural transfer path analysis and synthesis is conducted using so-called binaural measurements. This enables a distinction between airborne and structure-borne noise source paths. “This allows us to identify and analyze the different sound sources,” explains Justen. Using a noise transfer path model, engineers can identify, for example, which screw needs to be turned to achieve the agreed target value – first virtually and then in reality. If both cases produce satisfactory results, the Astra has taken its next hurdle on the way to production readiness.

Behind the headlamps' Big Dipper-like panels are 29 Matrix LED clusters connected to front cameras to intelligently perform a range of functions, including automatically turning on the high-beam headlights, activating the anti-glare high-beam headlights and automatically adjusting the height of the headlamps. They automatically switch between six lighting modes – City, Urban, Expressway, Curve, Parking and Fuel Economy – based on driving conditions.

In addition, the Verano GS comes with Buick's new intelligent safety system, which incorporates features that include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Collision Mitigation Braking and Automatic Parking Assist.

While 75 percent of the two Veranos’ body structure is composed of high-strength steel, the models incorporate extensive lightweight design features, such as lighter and more rigid structures, all-aluminum engines, all-aluminum sub-frames, all-aluminum front and rear bumpers, and aluminum steering knuckles, as well as imported lightweight damping mats. The result is a 100 kilogram reduction in curb weight.

The Verano Hatchback and Verano GS are built on the same architecture as the new Opel Astra K. Their firm chassis has an optimized MacPherson front suspension and enhanced composite torsion bar, along with a new-generation Opel-patented Watt's link rear suspension and all-aluminum six-point full-length sub-frame. The result is a perfect balance between body dimensions, weight and overall efficiency.

Handling and driving pleasure were assured through the adoption of the all-new belt-drive electric power-assisted steering system as well as more than a year's worth of testing and tuning at Germany's famed Nürburgring circuit.

Exciting and fuel-efficient powertrains

Both models incorporate GM's new Ecotec small gasoline engines, which combine powerful performance with exceptional fuel economy. The Verano Hatchback pairs a 1.5L SIDI engine with a six-speed DCG transmission. It delivers maximum output of 87 kW/6,600 rpm and peak torque of 146 Nm/4,000 rpm.

New Buick Verano GS is powered by a 1.5T SIDI engine that was named one of the “China Heart” 2015 Ten Best Engines. It is paired with a new-generation seven-speed DCG transmission. The powertrain combination produces maximum output of 124 kW/5,600 rpm and peak torque of 250 Nm/1,700-4,400 rpm. This gives the model the ability to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.8 seconds while enabling combined fuel consumption of 5.9 L/100 km – which sets a new benchmark for its class.
