!NEW! Frugal Fun: New Opel Corsa E now with LPG

  • Thrifty and affordable: Fuel costs almost 50% lower, attractive entry-level price of 14,745 euros
  • Clean and economical: Opel Corsa 1.4 LPG cuts CO2 emissions down to 113 g/km
  • Refined and powerful: Long range, lively performance with 66 kW/90 hp

New Opel Corsa 1.4 LPG: Fuel costs almost 50% lower, attractive entry-level price of 14,745 euros.
Introducing the Mr. Clean of the Corsa family – green, powerful and economical, the new Opel Corsa 1.4 LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) ecoFLEX develops 66 kW/90 hp and comes straight from the factory with a bi-fuel capability. Specifically aimed at cost-conscious customers, this latest member of the new Corsa family is an ideal choice in the small car segment because LPG drivers’ wallets benefit two-fold. On the one hand, fuel costs plummet by almost 50 percent compared to gasoline due to the low price of LPG, while on the other hand, the Corsa 1.4 LPG ecoFLEX boasts a particularly attractive entry-level price. The three-door model is now available from just 14,745 euros, and the five-door model from 15,495 euros (RRP incl. VAT in Germany).

Clean and economical: New Opel Corsa 1.4 LPG cuts CO2 emissions down to 113 g/km.
The Corsa LPG is not only extremely cost-efficient, but also kinder to the environment. That’s because LPG, a mixture of butane and propane gas which the four-cylinder engine burns under the Corsa’s shapely hood, is known for its super-clean combustion characteristics. Using this fuel, the new Corsa consumes just 6.9 liters per 100 km over the combined cycle and emits only 113 g/km CO2 – around 13 percent less CO2 than in gasoline operation. The nitrogen oxide emissions are even up to 80 percent lower.

“With the 1.3 CDTI, which consumes just 3.1 liters diesel, and our brand-new 1.4 LPG ecoFLEX, we have two real ‘eco-champions’ in the Corsa line-up. Once again, they both show how important energy efficiency and CO2 emissions reductions are for us in all model ranges,” says Peter Christian Küspert, Opel Group Vice President Sales and Aftersales. “But these models aren’t only attractive for especially cost-conscious drivers. They also offer many features that go far beyond what’s normally found in the small car class, such as ample space, superb comfort, state-of-the-art connectivity and driver assistance systems.”

Bi-Fuel driving: Long range with low fuel costs and emissions

The Opel Corsa 1.4 LPG offers 66 kW/90 hp in both LPG and gasoline operation and is available with a five-speed manual transmission. It needs just 6.9 liters per 100 km in alternative fuel mode, while CO2 emissions of 113 g/km are around 13 percent lower than in conventional gasoline operation. Fuel costs are reduced by almost 50 percent compared to gasoline. This huge saving is the result of tax benefits stipulated for LPG until 2018. And, looking further ahead, the prospects look promising because tax advantages for alternative fuels are expected to be extended on both the national and European levels.

Space saving and safe: The LPG tank’s installation in the spare-wheel housing of the trunk is both space-efficient and collision-protected.
Another benefit of the new-generation LPG Corsa is that, like all Opel LPG models, it comes ready for bi-fuel operation ex-works. The driver can switch between LPG and gasoline by pushing a button. A newly developed control module now enables an even more efficiently synchronized transition between the two operating modes. This means a driving range of up to 1,200 km is possible without having to stop to refuel. Range and consumption can be viewed separately for LPG and gasoline, as well as combined via an on-board computer. Today there are around 7,000 LPG filling stations in Germany and more than 35,000 across Europe.

Bi-Fuel driving: The new Corsa runs with either LPG or gasoline. In combination, this means a driving range of up to 1,200 km.

Space-saving and safe: Complete everyday use with LPG

The LPG tank’s installation in the spare-wheel housing of the trunk is both space-efficient and collision-protected. As a result, the Opel Corsa LPG still offers accommodation for five people or up to 1,120 liters of luggage space, just like its Corsa siblings. It also features the same ultra-modern driver assistance systems and equipment features – from standard City mode, optional steering wheel heating and automatic Park Assist all the way to Opel’s award-winning IntelliLink infotainment system complete with 7-inch color touchscreen.

!NEW! Only 94 g/km CO2: Opel Astra cleaner and more frugal than ever before

Opel Bestseller with ultra-modern powertrain only uses 3.6 l/100 km

Opel Astra with the 81 kW/110 hp 1.6 CDTI now only emits 94 grams of CO2 per kilometer (down 3g/km) – with the 100 kW/136 hp 1.6 CDTI it only emits 99 grams of CO2 per kilometer (down 5g/km).
Continuous improvement is the motto: launched in spring 2014, the Opel Astra with the new generation 1.6-liter turbo diesel had already earned Germany’s A+ energy efficiency label and has become the most efficient compact class car in Opel’s history. The further optimized Astra with the 81 kW/110 hp 1.6 CDTI now only emits 94 grams of CO2 per kilometer (vs 97 grams so far), which is equivalent to 3.6 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers (0.1 liter less than before) in the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle). As for the improved 100 kW/136 hp output version, it now only emits 99 grams of CO2 per kilometer (5 grams less than before) and needs 3.7 liters of diesel (0.2 liter less) in the NEDC, thus seeing even the more powerful Astra whisper diesel crack the 100-gram-barrier. And to make things even better – the new ‘eco’ Astra 1.6 CDTI, which will be available shortly, will cost the same as the current version. This showcases how committed Opel is in its current powertrain offensive, the most impressive in its history. In just 18 months, Opel has completely renewed its diesel portfolio. The reworked and even more frugal Astra 1.6 CDTI models complete the trio around the new, 82 gram Corsa 1.3 CDTI ‘eco champion’ and the new Insignia 2.0 CDTI, which will both also hit the dealerships in the upcoming weeks.

“Our new powertrains demonstrate how modern mobility works. CO2 reduction without making compromises on performance and comfort is the motto,” said Charles Klein, Vice President Vehicle Engineering Europe. “We now offer extremely efficient turbo diesels in every vehicle class – from our new Corsa with phenomenal 82 g/km of CO2 to the Astra and the midsize flagship, the Insignia.”

CO2 reduction without compromising driving pleasure and comfort

Just a few months after introducing the new generation 1.6 CDTI engine into the Astra, the Opel engineers have continued working on perfecting it, so that it now delivers up to five percent less emissions and consumption while maintaining performance and comfort. New low-friction components have been used for both the chassis and the bodywork: the optimized drive shafts or the especially low-rolling-resistance tires are just two examples. In addition, the Aero Package including a lowered chassis and active radiator shutters  helps reduce aerodynamic drag - The active shutters open and close automatically depending on engine temperature and speed. Furthermore, the engine specialists worked meticulously on improving the combustion process even further. The result of all these measures: The Astra with the new generation 1.6-liter whisper diesel and 81 kW/110 hp now emits three grams less CO2 per kilometer whereas the 100 kW/136 hp version can boast an impressive reduction of five grams per kilometer while driving performance was maintained for both output levels. The more powerful version propels the Astra sedan to 100 km/h in 10.1 seconds from a standing start and achieves maximum speed of 205 km/h.

Quiet by nature: The Opel Astra with the new generation 1.6-liter whisper diesel can be ordered with either 81 kW/110 hp or 100 kW/136 hp.
Uncompromising comfort also continues to be key in all ‘eco Astras’ including the five-door, sedan and Sport Tourer variants. From AGR (German Healthy Back Campaign) stamped ergonomic front seats right up to Opel’s modern IntelliLink infotainment system – numerous optional equipment features are available to create a pleasant, relaxing and fully connected trip. In addition, Opel offers safety relevant premium technologies such as the Opel Eye front camera with Following Distance Indication, Forward Collision Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition and Lane Departure Warning or the rearview camera, Park Assist with parking spot recognition and audiovisual parking assistance, Side Blind Spot Alert and the safety lighting system AFL+.

Combined with interior spaciousness and loading volume of up to 1,550 liters for the station wagon, this makes the Astra the perfect car for work or leisure time.

The eco-champion will be available for in Germany from March.

“Our automated five-speed manual transmission in the new Corsa is a real highlight for price-conscious customers who do not want to miss the comfort of an automatic,” said Peter Christian Küspert, Vice President Sales & Aftersales Opel Group. “When combined with the frugal diesel the small car becomes an efficiency giant. Therefore, it is perfect for both short urban shopping trips and longer journeys.”

Economical: Standard consumption of only 3.1 l/100 km with 82g/km CO2

Frugal: Opel ECOTEC 1.3 CDTI four-cylinder only uses 3.1 l/100 km, efficiency class A+
The fundamentally revamped diesel engine with 70 kW/ 95 hp and maximum torque of 190 Nm at 1,750 – 2,500 rpm in combination with a latest generation turbocharger allows for superior drive and acceleration even at low revs while simultaneously being extremely quiet. A water pump, operational when required, and a variable oil pump contribute to the exemplary consumption and CO2 values. Furthermore, the specially developed low-rolling-resistance tires and the Opel braking energy recuperation system also play an important part. With these innovations the three-door Corsa with the new Easytronic 3.0 transmission only uses 3.1 liter per 100 kilometers and emits a mere 82 grams of CO2 per kilometer, three grams less than with a manual five-speed gearbox (according to regulation [EC] No. 715/2007), thus seeing it qualify for efficiency class A+.

Easytronic 3.0: Huge comfort – small consumption

The five-speed Easytronic 3.0 weighs less and has lower internal friction than a conventional automatic transmission. It combines the advantages of a comfortable automatic transmission with the efficiency of a manual transmission. Easytronic 3.0 automatically selects the most fuel-efficient gear based on a manual transmission optimized for smaller engines and enables economical driving. The automated transmission is combined with Start/Stop technology that reduces fuel consumption even further especially in urban areas.

Comfortable: Easytronic 3.0 with outstanding fuel efficiency and smooth gear shifts
The Opel engineers developed a special gearwheel set for the automated transmission. The wide gear ratio spread of the five-gear wheel set reduces engine running speed, for example during highway travel, to a pleasant noise level. Furthermore, Easytronic 3.0 also offers a ‘creep’ mode similar to that of an automatic transmission for slow maneuvers. The transmission has a special start function for rapid starts and sporty acceleration.

Reduces fuel consumption: The Easytronic 3.0 automated gearbox
The latest generation of Easytronic impresses with reduced reaction times enabling quicker and smoother gear shifts. This optimization was made possible by a new actuator along with improved sensor and control technology and by the completely revamped manual base gearbox. In addition to automatic mode with an electro-hydraulic actuator taking over shifting and clutching operations, Easytronic 3.0 also offers manual gear shifting via push and pull operation of the gearshift.

New Corsavan Celebrates World Premiere at Brussels Motor Show

  • Economical 1.3 CDTI ecoFlex engine and more payload capacity than predecessor
  • Excellent connectivity with IntelliLink Infotainment System
  • Numerous safety features thanks to close relationship with passenger car
Exciting combination: The new Opel Corsavan combines the comfort, safety features and performance of a passenger car with the transport capacity of a small van.

Following the successful launch of the new Opel Corsa at the Paris Motor Show in October of last year, the new Corsavan will make its debut at the Brussels Motor Show (January 16 to 25, 2015). The small but capable van will be on show at the Opel stand in Hall 9 of the Brussels Expo and is part of Opel’s new light commercial vehicle strategy. Based on the new three-door Corsa, the nippy city delivery van, which combines the comfort, safety features and performance of a passenger car with the transport capacity of a small van can be ordered now and will be at dealerships in the first quarter of this year.

The new Corsavan is even more practical than its predecessor, offering 21 kilograms more maximum payload. Furthermore, it also comes with numerous safety features such as the award-winning Side Blind Spot Alert or the second-generation Opel Eye front camera, with Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist, Following Distance Indication and Forward Collision Warning. To top things off, the optional IntelliLink Infotainment System guarantees excellent connectivity. Compatible with Android and Apple devices it makes the Corsavan the best-connected city delivery van on the market.

“The Corsavan offers small businesses the comfort and practicality of a van combined with the most up-to-date safety and connectivity features of its passenger car sibling at an extremely attractive price,” said Steffen Raschig, Director of Opel Commercial Vehicles. Raschig expects the Corsavan to be especially popular in Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom, where the predecessor model also enjoys great success.

Dynamic and practical

Economical advantage: The servicing intervals guarantee that the vehicles spend even more time on the road.
From the outside, the Corsavan barely looks like a commercial vehicle at all. It shares the new Corsa’s dynamic appearance and fits easily into tight parking spaces thanks to its compact dimensions (4021 mm long, 1944 mm wide including exterior mirrors and 1479 mm high, turning circle 9.9 meters) and speed sensitive power steering. Its spacious and modern interior offers generous leg and headroom. The ergonomic design puts every switch and control within easy reach. The cabin feels more like an office and allows owners/drivers to get some paperwork done between appointments. Contoured, supportive seats provide ample comfort throughout the day.

More payload: New Opel Corsavan’s large, flat loading area provides a capacity of 920 liters with a maximum payload of 571 kilograms.
The compact proportions in no way detract from the agile city van’s great transport capacity. The Corsavan’s large, flat loading area provides a capacity of 920 liters with a maximum payload of 571 kilograms. Standard features such as a solid steel floor and half-height steel bulkhead along with half-height sidewall paneling and load restraint lashing eyes all serve to protect and stabilize cargo. Additionally, upper load restraint mesh, fitted rubber floor mat and four-piece load compartment cover are optional for even more load protection.

New Opel Corsavan: Safe transportation: Load restraint lashing eyes serve to protect and stabilize cargo.

Economical and lively

The engine lineup consists of 1.4 liter gasoline engines and 1.3 liter diesel aggregates with outputs ranging from 70 to 95 hp. The 1.3 CDTI ecoFlex engine with 95 hp is the pick of the diesel aggregates and has undergone comprehensive redevelopment for use in the new Corsavan. It delivers 190 Nm torque, comes with Start/Stop as standard and is Euro-6 compliant. While delivering a lively drive it also keeps fuel consumption at an outstanding 3.3 liters per 100 kilometers for the combined cycle, with CO2 emissions down to an impressive 88 grams per kilometer.

The servicing intervals also represent an economical advantage. Main services intervals have been set to every two years or 60.000 km (whatever comes first) with an interim service interval of every 30.000 km or yearly. This guarantees that the vehicles spend even more time representing the client on the road.

Outstanding connectivity

Elsewhere, the optional IntelliLink infotainment system’s 7-inch color touchscreen is located on the center stack. Opel’s award-winning infotainment system offers optimum connectivity opportunities. It is compatible with Apple and Android devices and makes the Corsavan the best-connected small van on the market. The driver can use apps like BringGo for navigation as well as Stitcher and TuneIn for worldwide radio and podcast reception. With IntelliLink, a driver can plan his entire day without having to return to the office. Emails, contacts or the personal calendar are all easily accessible. The integration of Apple iOS devices within IntelliLink enables Siri Eyes Free voice control. This makes it possible for drivers to hear an incoming SMS read aloud or dictate an SMS and emails – all while keeping their hands on the wheel and their eyes on the road ahead.

Comprehensive Safety & Comfort Package

When it comes to safety, the Corsavan benefits greatly from its close relationship with its passenger car sibling and comes with a generous package of safety features. The highlight is Opel’s award-winning Side Blind Spot Alert, which uses ultrasonic sensors to warn the driver of an imminent collision when changing lanes, overtaking or turning a corner. The sensors have a range of three meters to the left and right of the vehicle, and detect objects or other vehicles in the driver’s blind spots. Whenever another vehicle comes within range of the sensors, a warning LED illuminates in the relevant exterior door mirror. Side Blind Spot Alert works in speeds ranging from 10 km/h to 140 km/h.

The second-generation Opel Eye front camera, with Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist, Following Distance Indication and Forward Collision Warning, also further increases driving safety. Traffic Sign Recognition reads speed limit- and no-passing signs and displays them on the instrument panel. Lane Departure Warning alerts drivers when they unintentionally stray out of their lane. High Beam Assist offers a considerable safety advantage when driving in the dark automatically activating the high beam light for better road illumination and improved visibility. Following Distance Indication, which is activated automatically at speeds from 40 km/h, not only helps to prevent collisions, but also helps to avoid possible fines for not maintaining sufficient safety distance to the vehicle in front. If the vehicle gets into a critical situation where a collision with the preceding vehicle is imminent, Forward Collision Warning alerts the driver with a loud alarm as well as a visual warning on the instrument cluster.

At the touch of a button, the City mode of the steering system, fitted as standard except when the Opel Eye front camera is chosen, increases power assistance at lower speeds, which is particularly useful when maneuvering in congested urban areas. Hill Start Assist also comes as standard. It maintains the brake function for about two seconds. This prevents the Corsavan from rolling back when starting on a slope. On cold days, owners benefit from the heated ThermaTec windscreen that ensures perfect visibility and the heated steering wheel.

!NEW! Precise and Comfortable: New Opel Corsa E, the Small Car with High Standards

• Newly designed chassis provides more comfort, pleasure and safety
• New steering with precise feel for the road, City Mode for maneuvers
• From test track to road: Fifth generation Corsa passes toughest tests

Chassis engineers in charge of developing the fifth generation Opel Corsa have set to themselves the objective of delighting future customers with a driving experience comparable to the one provided by larger, more expensive cars in terms of comfort and precision. They have lowered the center of gravity of the new Corsa by 5 millimeters and completely redesigned its chassis and steering systems.

“The chassis of the new generation Corsa does not inherit a single component from the previous model. We turned every conceivable setscrew to achieve a better drive experience with new levels of comfort, precision and pleasure. At the same time, we concentrated on finding the optimal balance between enjoyable dynamics and predictable, safest road-handling,” said Michael Ableson, Vice-President Vehicle Engineering Europe.

New Opel Corsa chassis raises the bar for comfort, fun and safety

In addition to its 5 millimeter lower center of gravity, the Corsa receives a new, stiffer, redesigned chassis. The front MacPherson suspension has a new geometry with new front knuckles which improve the vehicle’s roll behavior, steering response and understeer behavior. A new, reinforced sub-frame increases torsional rigidity, while dual strut mounts provide improved responsiveness on uneven surfaces. Furthermore, the new spring rates and damper characteristics in the front reduce the pitching moment during sharp braking maneuvers. This results in the Corsa remaining controllable in case of emergency braking, even for inexperienced drivers. The rear axle torsion bar has been redesigned too, and an enhanced stabilizer has been added to reduce tilting for a better cornering compliance and stability.

Corsa customers can choose between two chassis set-ups, the standard ‘Comfort’ and the more active and direct ‘Sport’. The Comfort chassis is featured with 14 to 16 inch wheels. The Sport chassis has stiffer springs and shock absorbers as well as a specific steering geometry and calibration for a more direct response. It is optional with 16-inch wheels and comes standard on Corsa models equipped with 17-inch wheels.

New steering system with numerous innovations

In order to improve directional stability, the Opel engineers changed the mounting points of the rack-and-pinion steering shaft and optimized its geometry. A newly constructed mounting for the steering column saves space which is filled with additional padding material and increases driver safety in case of a collision. Furthermore, the steering column possesses special impact absorbers.

The development of a completely new electrical architecture for the fifth generation Corsa enables a more sophisticated level of interaction between its various systems. An optimized software for the electrical and speed-dependent power steering adds additional possibilities. For instance, all new Corsa are equipped with a new standard ‘City’ steering mode that allows reducing steering effort at low speeds for easing maneuvers. The City mode is activated at the press of a button located on the center console.

Furthermore, the active cornering component of the Corsa’s steering aids the driver in crosswinds and on convex roads. Amongst others, the software is fed with the data from the ninth generation Electronic Stability Program (ESPPlus). This system contains no less than eleven different functions, including, for example, the new Hill Start Assist (HSA).

Elsewhere, the fifth generation of the Opel bestseller can be fitted with an Advanced Parking Assistant (€580 including VAT). This system recognizes parallel and perpendicular parking spaces and takes over the steering, meaning that the driver only has to control the pedals.

Well-rounded: Brakes and wheels

The base new Corsa comes with 14-inch steel rims and 185/70 tires. In combination with a turbocharged engine (1.0 Turbo, 1.4 Turbo and 1.3 CDTI), the new Corsa is always fitted with 15-inch or bigger wheels. However, the Opel bestseller can optionally be ordered with 17-inch rims and 215-wide tires. The standard Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TMPS) display warns the driver in the event of excessive pressure loss in one of the tires.

The braking system consists of ventilated front and solid rear discs which can easily cope with high stress. The pedal feel is distinguished by the exactly defined pressure point and excellent controllability. The braking systems is assisted by electronic aids that permanently receive information for the ABS/ESP sensors. For example, the systems recognizes if the braking maneuver is being performed while cornering and distributes the braking force to all four wheels depending on the load.

A car’s life in high speed: Fifth generation Opel Corsa at the test center

The engineers in Opel’s Test Center in Dudenhofen have tested the new generation Corsa extensively over thousands of kilometers before allowing it to be presented to the customers. The Opel Development Team pushed the new Corsa to its limits during the tests: the development prototypes had to master 40,000 kilometers on the torture track, the high speed circuit and in hilly terrain, equivalent to 160,000 kilometer on “normal” demanding roads. Within only 24 weeks, these development prototypes are put through burdens that a production car would normally only encounter during its entire life cycle.

The new Corsa was asked to prove its resilience time and time again on the torture track. The track delivers exactly what its name promises: more than 900 meters of potholes, humps, the “washboard“, a cobbled section and a pavé track. It’s a really tough test for the chassis, which will most probably never go through such torture in real life – but the Corsa mastered it comfortably. To put the steering, transmission and brakes to the test, the new Corsa also successfully completed the hill track many thousand times.

On Dudenhofen’s 40-degree banking circuit without lateral forces engineers can test the stability at high speed. Another circuit that is used during the testing procedure has rising and falling gradients, ranging from eight to 30 percent, with different road surfaces and a serpentine section including hairpin turns – similar to conditions found in alpine mountains.

The endurance test, which all new Opel models are put through, was decisive for the new generation Corsa. The longest track at the test center offers many different road surfaces including asphalt and cobblestones, bumps and numerous curves. Here engineers test if the performance and quality they fine-tuned and approved in the development vehicles have been successfully transferred to the production vehicles. This final quality control ensures that any minute disturbances or doubts are erased, thus guaranteeing that the new Corsa reaches the customers perfectly aligned with the stringent performance and quality targets set at the beginning of its development.

!NEW! In Top Shape: New Opel Corsa E Sets Standards in Small Car Segment

  • Fifth generation Corsa continues 32-year-long success story
  • Comfortable, strong and economical: New chassis and powertrain technology raise standards
  • Top connectivity: IntelliLink integrates smartphone functionalities
  • Active safety: Innovative driver assistance systems protect Corsa occupants
  • Enhanced appeal: Striking looks with signature brand styling elements

The Opel Corsa is well established as a perennial bestseller: through four model generations spanning 32 years, 12.4 million Corsas have been sold. Together with the Astra, it is Opel’s most popular model, accounting for over a quarter of the company’s sales every year. Available in three and five-door body formats, the Corsa is currently number four in the small car segment in Western Europe. In Germany and the United Kingdom, it is number two and still keeping the competition at bay.

When the new fifth-generation Corsa rolls off the assembly lines in Eisenach and Zaragoza at the end of this year, a star will be born to continue the model’s success in the small car segment. It has everything it takes to do so. The chic, fifth generation Corsa offers a fresh look and a fresh driving experience with a new chassis and optimized steering, combining the art of German engineering with emotional design, superb digital connectivity and a great price/performance ratio. New generation gasoline and profoundly reworked diesel turbo engines ensure a new level of comfort, top performance and low fuel consumption. The fifth-generation Corsa can already be ordered in Germany at an attractive entry-level price of just 11,980 euros (3-door, 1.2 gasoline engine; 750 euros more for the family-friendly five-door model – RRP incl. VAT in Germany).

“The Opel Corsa has always been widely praised, particularly for its appealing looks and its efficient use of space within compact dimensions,” says Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann, CEO Opel Group. “I am confident the new fifth generation, with its new level of comfort, its modern driver assistance and infotainment systems, will continue the model’s exemplary success. I promise that the driving experience of the new Corsa will surprise everyone.”

Absolute precision: New chassis and steering for top driving stability

The new chassis does not inherit a single component from the current model. Straight line and cornering stability is increased thanks to a center of gravity lowered by 5 mm, a stiffer sub-frame and new suspension geometry including a new front knuckle. Roll behavior, steering response and understeer characteristics are all improved. New damping characteristics also give the fifth-generation Corsa better filtration of disturbances from potholes and uneven road surfaces, providing exemplary comfort in a small car. The development of a completely new electrical architecture enables a more sophisticated level of interaction between the car’s various systems. New steering geometry and steering software calibration benefit the new, speed-sensitive electric power steering system: it has a more precise response and improves both driving pleasure and comfort.

Power and comfort: New three-cylinder engine and gearbox for more driving fun

The highlight under the hood of the new Corsa is the installation of Opel’s newly-developed gasoline-powered three-cylinder, 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo. Just premiered in the Opel ADAM, this ultra-modern pocket powerhouse that has been designed from a clean sheet of paper sets a new class benchmark for exceptionally low noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics, as well as high driving comfort: the compact, all-aluminum 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo is fitted with a counter-rotating balancer shaft – a unique feature in its class. It is available in two output configurations, giving 66 kW/90 hp or 85 kW/115 hp. Both of course already meet Euro 6 emission standards, and the 66 kW/90 hp version only consumes 4.3 l/100 km in the combined cycle for emissions of just 100 g/km CO2. Opel’s new generation small gasoline engine does not only stand out with its quietness and silence, but also with its great responsiveness thanks to its massive torque already available at low revs. Both versions pump out 170 Nm of torque from just 1,800 rpm.

The gasoline powertrain line-up also includes 1.2 and 1.4-liter four-cylinder engines. New to the range is a 74 kW/100 hp 1.4-liter turbo with 200 Nm maximum torque available from 1,850 to 3,500 rpm. This makes it the current torque hero within the new Corsa powertrain portfolio. Of course, both engines meet Euro 6 emission standards.

Completely revised, more refined and now also Euro 6 compliant 1.3 CDTI engines with 55 kW/75 hp and 70 kW/95 hp expand the Corsa’s powertrain offer. At launch, the most frugal Corsa diesel variant – with 70 kW/95 hp, a five-speed manual gearbox and braking energy recuperation system – can reduce the three-door model‘s CO2 emissions down to 85 g/km and fuel consumption down to 3.2 l/100 km over the combined cycle. This earns it the German A+ energy efficiency label (according to Regulation [EC] No 715/2007).

But it is not only all-new and further developed engines which make the new Corsa even more fun and comfortable to drive. The introduction of new transmissions also contributes to the enhanced driving experience and improved efficiency. Both versions of the 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo are mated to an all-new, compact six-speed manual gearbox, which is distinguished by low friction design for its internal components and exemplary shift precision and comfort. New six-speed automatic transmission is also available in the new generation Corsa, introducing a higher level of driving luxury for the small car segment and setting a standard previously reserved for larger vehicle classes. In addition, with the Corsa, Opel launches a new generation automated transmission: Easytronic 3.0. Mated with the 66 kW/90 hp 1.4 gasoline engine, it impresses with excellent fuel efficiency (4.7 liter/100 km, 110g/km CO2) and a substantially smoother gear shifting compared to the previous unit. Easytronic affordably combines the comfort of an automatic with the efficiency of a manual gearbox. As it only costs half the price of a converter-based transmission, it is a great alternative for price-sensitive customers who do not want to forgo the comfort offered by an automatic.

Stylish: Opel design philosophy and clean interior with new IntelliLink

 Wing-shaped LED daytime running lights
Designers of the new Corsa have combined its popular, dynamic silhouette with flowing, sculptural lines and precise details which characterize Opel’s award-winning design philosophy. The new frontal styling incorporates elegantly chiseled headlamps, with wing-shaped LED daytime running lights, and a trapezoidal-shaped grille carrying a dominant chrome bar and the Opel logo. This fascia gives the new Corsa an enhanced presence on the road. The rear end has a lean, stretched and athletic look: the wide horizontally split tail lights help to visually widen the car and also flow round to the rear shoulders, giving the Corsa an even better stance. At just 4.02 meters in length, the Opel bestseller still offers plenty of space for up to five occupants – in both family-friendly, five-door and sporty three-door body formats.

The Corsa’s high-quality cabin is also stylish, modern and designers have given it a new level of inspiring sophistication. The cleanly designed cockpit is organized along stretched horizontal lines that enhance the feeling of spaciousness. It is laid out around an eye-catching driver control center and the instrument panel fascia. The optional IntelliLink infotainment system’s 7-inch color touchscreen is ideally located on the center stack, between driver and front passenger.

Opel’s award-winning infotainment system offers optimum connectivity opportunities. It is compatible with Apple and Android devices and makes the Corsa the best connected small car on the market. The driver can use apps like BringGo for navigation, as well as Stitcher and TuneIn for worldwide radio and podcast reception. The integration of Apple iOS devices within IntelliLink enables SIRI EYES FREE voice control. This makes it possible for drivers to hear an incoming SMS read aloud or dictate an SMS and emails – all while keeping their hands on the wheel and their eyes on the road ahead.

Assistant on board: Ultra-modern systems increase driving comfort and safety

“With the fifth generation Corsa, we want to offer a new driving experience in this vehicle class in term of pleasure, comfort and safety,” says Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann. “This is why our bestseller is coming onto the market with so many new technologies.”

This prevents the Corsa from rolling back when starting on a slope.

Rearview Camera
The new Corsa introduces a host of driver assistance systems, many of which are unrivalled in its vehicle class. The Advanced Park Assist identifies spaces and automatically parks the vehicle, without the driver touching the wheel. This ultrasonic sensor-based system measures suitable parallel or perpendicular parking spots, calculates the vehicle’s trajectory and automatically steers the Corsa into a parking space. The Advanced Park Assist always comes with Side Blind Spot Alert, which also uses the ultrasonic sensors to warn the driver of an imminent collision when changing lanes. The sensors have a range of three meters to the left and right of the vehicle, and detect objects or other vehicles in the driver’s blind spots.

Whenever another vehicle comes within range of the sensors, a warning LED illuminates in the relevant exterior door mirror. The second-generation Opel Eye front camera, with Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist, Following Distance Indication and Forward Collision Warning, also further increases driving safety.

!NEW! Opel Corsa: Success Story in Five Acts

The journey to becoming a multi-million bestseller: 12.3 million Corsas sold in 32 years

32 years of success: Opel Corsa A, B, C, D and E
In the beginning there was the Opel Kadett. Introduced by Opel in 1936, it was a fully-fledged car at an affordable price, and was designed to bring mobility to more people at a time when driving a car was still real luxury. The Opel brand then really took off in the era of Germany’s ‘economic miracle’ during the 1960s and early 1970s with the arrival of the Kadett A and B. In the process, customers quickly became more discerning as their prosperity increased and the small Kadett became larger and more powerful, moving closer to the mid-size class with the arrival of each version. This created a slot below what had become Rüsselsheim’s classic entry-level model. So the time was right to fill the gap with a new, genuine small car – enter the Opel Corsa.

Act One: 1982 to 1993 - Corsa A

Opel Corsa A Luxus, 1982.
The Corsa A featured close-coupled proportions within a short length of just 3.62 meters. It had bold, flared wheel-arches like a rallye car and an exceptionally low 0.36 drag coefficient which was possibly record-breaking for its class. Chief designer Erhard Schnell had created a sporty small car with crisp, chiseled lines, intended to particularly appeal to ‘the man of the house’. The highlight was the 100 hp Corsa GSi, and diesel power was also introduced. The two-door hatch- and notchback line-up was expanded in 1985 with the addition of the popular five-door model. The Corsa A became a highly-acclaimed, top seller with 3.1 million units built.

Act Two: 1993 to 2000 - Corsa B

Opel Corsa B Joy, 1993.
Despite the success of Corsa A, the decision was taken in Rüsselsheim to position its successor as a real ‘ladies’ darling’. Opel design legend Hideo Kodama set to work and created a much rounder, softer Corsa, with appealing ‘saucer-eye’ headlamps which perfectly fit with cute, child-like looks. The Corsa B was ten centimeter longer and much more spacious inside. It also introduced higher safety standards to its segment, including ABS cadence braking, side-impact protection and front airbags. For special markets, next to the hatchback Opel again offered a notchback as well as station wagon and pick-up variants. Gasoline engines already had fuel-injection technology and catalytic converters, while the GSi featured 16 valves and diesel power was now turbo-charged. The second Corsa was successful around the world, and sales topped the four million mark.

Act Three: 2000 to 2006 - Corsa C

Opel Corsa C 3-door, 2000.
In the spirit of never changing a winning team, Hideo Kodama was again asked to design the shape of the Corsa C. The styling was consciously oriented towards its successful predecessor. The new Corsa grew again by ten centimeter in length and had a wide stance with a longer wheelbase, which greatly increased interior space. For the first time, the body was fully galvanized. Sophisticated four-valve ECOTEC gasoline and new direct-injection turbo diesel engines ensured strong power, low fuel consumption and lowest emission values – all variants already complied to the stringent Euro 4 emission standards. The Corsa C also became a star performer and sold 2.5 million units.

Act Four: 2006 to 2014 - Corsa D

Opel Corsa D 3-door, 2006.
From now on, the three and five-door versions go their separate ways: the three-door Corsa has unique, coupé-like styling aimed at sporty customers, just like the original Corsa A. The five-door variant becomes a spacious, fully-fledged family car. The current Corsa D is still less than four meters in length, having grown to exactly 3.999 meters. With Opel’s ecoFLEX technology, the Corsa has fuel-saving Start/Stop systems and highly efficient engines. The 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX version consumes just 3.3 l/100 km over the combined cycle and emits only 88 g/km CO2. The fourth generation Corsa is now coming to the end of its production run, having sold 2.8 million units to date. Through four model generations, a total of 12.3 million Opel Corsas have been sold, with 11.7 million of them in Europe alone.

Act Five: From 2014 - Corsa E

Opel Corsa E 3-door, 2014.
Before the end of the year, customers will be enjoying the new Corsa E. The fifth generation will also be built in the Opel plant in Zaragoza and in Eisenach as three-door and five-door variants. Eisenach is also home to production of the Opel ADAM, which is now the Corsa’s little brother – just like the Corsa once was to the Kadett. So time passes by for cars, just like for people, and children grow up to be adults.
