Introducing the Mr. Clean of the Corsa family – green, powerful and economical, the new Opel Corsa 1.4 LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) ecoFLEX develops 66 kW/90 hp and comes straight from the factory with a bi-fuel capability. Specifically aimed at cost-conscious customers, this latest member of the new Corsa family is an ideal choice in the small car segment because LPG drivers’ wallets benefit two-fold. On the one hand, fuel costs plummet by almost 50 percent compared to gasoline due to the low price of LPG, while on the other hand, the Corsa 1.4 LPG ecoFLEX boasts a particularly attractive entry-level price. The three-door model is now available from just 14,745 euros, and the five-door model from 15,495 euros (RRP incl. VAT in Germany).

The Corsa LPG is not only extremely cost-efficient, but also kinder to the environment. That’s because LPG, a mixture of butane and propane gas which the four-cylinder engine burns under the Corsa’s shapely hood, is known for its super-clean combustion characteristics. Using this fuel, the new Corsa consumes just 6.9 liters per 100 km over the combined cycle and emits only 113 g/km CO2 – around 13 percent less CO2 than in gasoline operation. The nitrogen oxide emissions are even up to 80 percent lower.
“With the 1.3 CDTI, which consumes just 3.1 liters diesel, and our brand-new 1.4 LPG ecoFLEX, we have two real ‘eco-champions’ in the Corsa line-up. Once again, they both show how important energy efficiency and CO2 emissions reductions are for us in all model ranges,” says Peter Christian Küspert, Opel Group Vice President Sales and Aftersales. “But these models aren’t only attractive for especially cost-conscious drivers. They also offer many features that go far beyond what’s normally found in the small car class, such as ample space, superb comfort, state-of-the-art connectivity and driver assistance systems.”

The Opel Corsa 1.4 LPG offers 66 kW/90 hp in both LPG and gasoline operation and is available with a five-speed manual transmission. It needs just 6.9 liters per 100 km in alternative fuel mode, while CO2 emissions of 113 g/km are around 13 percent lower than in conventional gasoline operation. Fuel costs are reduced by almost 50 percent compared to gasoline. This huge saving is the result of tax benefits stipulated for LPG until 2018. And, looking further ahead, the prospects look promising because tax advantages for alternative fuels are expected to be extended on both the national and European levels.

Another benefit of the new-generation LPG Corsa is that, like all Opel LPG models, it comes ready for bi-fuel operation ex-works. The driver can switch between LPG and gasoline by pushing a button. A newly developed control module now enables an even more efficiently synchronized transition between the two operating modes. This means a driving range of up to 1,200 km is possible without having to stop to refuel. Range and consumption can be viewed separately for LPG and gasoline, as well as combined via an on-board computer. Today there are around 7,000 LPG filling stations in Germany and more than 35,000 across Europe.

The LPG tank’s installation in the spare-wheel housing of the trunk is both space-efficient and collision-protected. The Opel ADAM ROCKS showcases the arrival of an all-new development under its hood. In addition to familiar naturally-aspirated, 1.2 and 1.4 liter gasoline engines delivering 51 kW/70 hp to 74 kW/100 hp, Opel is offering its all-new 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo for the first time. This all-aluminum three-cylinder unit delivers 66 kW/90 hp, while a top-of-the-line version reaches 85 kW/115 hp. The four-cylinder engines are mated to a five-speed transmission and both 1.0 liter Turbo units come with a new compact and lightweight six-speed manual gearbox. This gives ADAM ROCKS a comfortable, superbly smooth and fast shift operation.

Maximum speed is 180 km/h (66 kW/90 hp) and 196 km/h (85 kW/115 hp), and the sprint from zero to 100 km/h takes just 11.9 and 9.9 seconds respectively. Both versions deliver strong, low-end torque of 170 Nm from just 1,800 rpm.
Opel ECOTEC 1.0 Direct Injection Turbo
The all-aluminum engine features state-of-the-art technologies such as high-pressure direct fuel injection, continuously variable valve timing, a switchable water pump, a cylinder-head integrated exhaust manifold and a single scroll turbocharger. Despite its fiery performance, the 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo consumes just 4.5 liters (66 kW/90 hp) and 5.1 liters (85 kW/115 hp) of fuel per 100 km over the combined cycle, not least thanks to Start/Stop fitted as standard (according to Regulation [EC] no. 715/2007).
Opel ADAM ROCKS’ suspension system – McPherson struts on a sub-frame up front and a torsion beam at rear – has been modified to suit its wider range of use. The car’s off-road character is emphasized by a 15-mm increase in ride height compared to ADAM with identical 17-inch wheels, giving Opel’s mini crossover SUV-like ground clearance of around 14 centimeters. Chassis components modified or re-tuned include the dampers, springs, rear suspension geometry and steering. ADAM ROCKS’ rugged good looks are enhanced by wide front and rear tracks (1,472 and 1,464 mm respectively) which, combined with a 2,311 mm long wheelbase, also ensure a high level of driving stability and comfort.

Opel ADAM ROCKS went from concept car to production readiness in just twelve months. It was born and nurtured at Opel’s International Technical Development Center (ITDC) in Rüsselsheim and, like the rest of the ADAM family, it is built in Germany at Opel’s Eisenach plant. Opel is in the middle of the largest engine offensive in its history: between 2014 and 2018, 17 new engines will be introduced. A top highlight is the ultra-modern, 1.0‑liter three-cylinder gasoline unit complete with turbocharging and the very finest manners – giving a clean, smooth and quiet operation. This direct-injection engine makes its debut in the Opel ADAM and ADAM ROCKS with a newly developed, six-speed manual transmission and sets new standards for three-cylinder engine refinement. It is not only economical and climate-friendly, but also silky smooth to drive, with noise and vibration characteristics superior to many four-cylinder engines.

This pocket powerhouse comes in two configurations, giving 66 kW/90 hp or 85 kW/115 hp. Both deliver strong, low-end torque of 170 Nm from just 1,800 rpm across a wide engine speed plateau. As a result, it enables better acceleration at low rpm than larger engines with similar horsepower, together with much lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Compared to Opel’s current 1.4 liter naturally-aspirated unit (74 kW/100 hp), the ADAM’s new 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo offers substantially improved driving performance. Particularly during acceleration from 80 to 120 km/h, an exceptionally important speed range for overtaking, the turbo delivers strong power at low rpm. With 90 hp the 1.0 turbo covers this sprint in 13.2 seconds, while the 115 hp version requires just 10.9 seconds.
Despite its fiery performance, the 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo consumes just 4.2 (90 hp) and 4.9 liters (115 hp) of fuel per 100 km in the combined cycle. Braking-energy recuperation and low-rolling-resistance tires (15 and 16-inch on the Opel ADAM) further contribute to saving fuel. This new three-cylinder unit already complies with the future Euro 6 emission standards.

Numerous ‘sound engineering’ measures which contribute to the engine’s benchmark refinement include an acoustically-developed cylinder block; a sump-mounted balancer shaft – universally unique for a three-cylinder engine; structural isolation of the fuel injection system and crankshaft; drive chains with inverted teeth and engine covers designed for acoustic attenuation.

The differential is exactly the same for the new adventure-loving ADAM ROCKS, which costs just 18,490 euros (90 hp) or 18,790 euros (115 hp) (all prices RRP incl. VAT in Germany). It offers higher ground clearance and loads of off-road appeal, in addition to a leather steering wheel, air conditioning, 17-inch alloy wheels, CD-radio with seven speakers, USB port and a hands-free kit, as well as an electric Swing Top canvas roof – all fitted as standard.

And from September, the first three-door mini crossover that’s less than four meters long will be adding color to the streets of Europe. That’s because the Opel ADAM ROCKS is not short on charm and sets many new standards. It debuts Opel’s all-new 1.0 liter ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo engine. This compact power pack – optionally available with 66 kW/90 hp or 85 kW/115 hp – sets new standards for three-cylinder engines in terms of noise and vibration suppression, as well as comfort. Then there is the nippy little lifestyle vehicle’s unmistakable design, with that unique Swing Top canvas roof – and, of course, its highly-praised, advanced IntelliLink infotainment system. ‘EMC’ is short for electro-magnetic compatibility, and Opel engineers at the company’s EMC labs have been involved throughout the entire vehicle development program, right up to series production. At every step of the process, they ensure there is no mutual interference between different electronic systems. In the old days, for example, it was merely a question of suppressing typical crackling noises from the radio caused by the car’s generator, the ignition system, the wiper motor or similar components. Today, the task is much more complex. After all, the ADAM ROCKS – just like the rest of the ADAM family – offers a broad range of state-of-the-art electronic functions. These include safety features, such as ESP and the electronic brakeforce distribution, as well as the parking pilot, the sound system and, of course, all the infotainment electronics. With comprehensive connectivity options via IntelliLink and constant data downloading through the navigation system, particularly high demands are placed on the suppression of interference. The electronic systems are therefore hermetically sealed off from external influences – and ADAM ROCKS is proof that this can be done just as effectively with its unique, fabric Swing Top canvas roof as in a fixed-head sedan.
This is why the ADAM ROCKS had a final appointment at the EMC Center. What at first glance looks like a giant egg box turns out to be a miracle of radiation absorption. In the Center’s specially equipped rooms, which meet the quality standards for professional test labs applied by the German Accreditation Authority according to ISO 17025, the team of Opel engineers tests how the vehicle electronics react to possible electro-magnetic interference. This can be line-borne, via cable harnesses, or airborne, and the vehicle is exposed to all conceivable frequency ranges. The strange-looking absorbers on the walls are designed to "suck up" the emitted waves so they are not thrown back randomly into the room. In this way, engineers gather clean, useable measurement data. Only when all the vehicle’s systems are absolutely free of interference from external electro-magnetic radiation sources does an Opel model receive the green light of EMC Center approval. For the new ADAM ROCKS and its electronics systems, this means an examination passed with distinction. Nothing gets in the way of enjoying interference-free infotainment in Opel’s new, mini lifestyle crossover.

Cool and tough, chunky and funky: ADAM ROCKS combines the joy of driving under an open sky with all the fun of an adventure-loving mini-crossover. Making its world debut at next month’s Geneva Motor Show (March 6 - 16), ADAM ROCKS is the next addition to the ADAM family. Coming on top of ADAM JAM, ADAM GLAM and ADAM SLAM, it will further extend ADAM`s almost unlimited personalization possibilities, and strengthen its position as the individualization champion among automobiles. Presented as a concept car in Geneva just 12 months ago, ADAM ROCKS received such an enthusiastic response that the company’s new leadership team swiftly made the decision to make it real and to announce its production at this year’s show. Designed for rugged individuality
Inspired by the exploits of agile ‘Parkour’ athletes who use the city landscape as their playground, the new ADAM ROCKS body style opens a new niche – a space in the small car segment for urban mini three-door crossover vehicles. So far, the most compact model that is comparable is about 40 cm longer. Rugged good looks, a higher stance and muscular proportions as well as a Swing Top roof for fast, open-air fun will appeal to those seeking personal freedom off the beaten track in the city and beyond the urban landscape.
Key to ADAM ROCKS’ purposeful stance is a 15 mm increase in body ride height, giving greater ground clearance, and a wider, masculine appearance. Parts of the chassis system have been modified or re-tuned – including dampers, springs, the rear suspension geometry, and direct, responsive steering. The higher, wider looks are matched by a choice of 17-inch standard or 18-inch optional alloy wheels. These can be further personalized with new wheel clips in “Wild” design and different colors that are unique to the ROCKS.
Protective, anthracite-colored cladding is wrapped tightly around the ADAM ROCKS, giving it a tough, muscular look. The front trapezoidal grille, with a chrome central brand bar, is embedded in the cladding, while contrasting, satin chrome ‘boomerang’ elements frame the front fog lamps/indicator housings and the reversing/fog lamps at the rear. LED daytime running lights and tail lights also come as standard. Silver skid plates front and rear and a bold chrome exhaust complete the exterior design.
Every bit as customizable as its ADAM peers, the new ROCKS model joins the line of individualization champions. As for exterior personalization, ROCKS features the same “floating roof” design as ADAM JAM, ADAM GLAM and ADAM SLAM, offering the possibility to combine different body and roof colors. New body paints will be introduced with ADAM ROCKS, such as the vibrant yellow “Goldbusters”. The color palette will then comprise 18 body plus six roof colors for two-tone combinations.
Open air fun for the city and beyond
ADAM ROCKS combines its rugged individuality with open air fun. The standard SwingTop canvas roof gives quick access to the sky above. It is electrically operated via a button located in the front area of the headliner and folds back neatly on to the C-pillars in just 5 seconds. Creating a wide opening into the sky, this stylish system has no negative impact on body stiffness or on the car’s functionality: the trunk keeps the full opening of a hatchback and loading volume remains untouched.

Unique cabin with unrivalled in-car connectivity
ADAM ROCKS’ cabin reverberates with its own distinctive character. Two new, exclusive ROCKS interior ambiances have been designed. They include a main instrument cluster, seat and door panel colors and other trim elements – all unique to Opel’s mini urban trailblazer. One ambiance is directly taken from the ADAM ROCKS concept car revealed last year: it has elegant-sporty Peanut-colored fabric/Morrocana seats and door panels, leather steering wheel, gearshift and handbrake in the same color, and a friendly “Surf” décor trim. The other features sophisticated Coffee Bean design – rich dark brown seats in a black cabin trimmed with bright blue stitching. On top of this, almost all interior personalization options available in the ADAM range are also offered in the ROCKS.
ADAM ROCKS features Opel’s sophisticated IntelliLink system that offers state-of-the-art connectivity and apps. This infotainment system is fully compatible with latest smartphones using both ANDROID and Apple iOS. It provides USB and Bluetooth connectivity, audio streaming, a 7-inch high-definition color touch-screen and seven speakers. Opel’s IntelliLink system in ADAM ROCKS adds navigation by the BringGo app as well as the Stitcher and TuneIn apps. The integration of Apple iOS devices into the system enables SIRI EYES FREE voice control. This makes it possible, for instance, for drivers to have incoming SMS read aloud and to dictate SMS while they keep their eyes on the road and their hands on the steering wheel. All-new 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo packs up to 115 hp punch
ADAM ROCKS introduces Opel’s all-new, 1.0-liter ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo engine, which sets a new standard for three-cylinder refinement. Noise and vibrations are the lowest for a three-cylinder set-up – and in many regards even better than those of many four-cylinder units. This new generation engine also impresses with superior low-end torque: 166 Nm are generated from just 1,800 rpm. Key efficiency enablers of this compact, all-aluminum engine with a single scroll turbocharger include direct injection, variable valve timing, a switchable water pump and an integrated exhaust manifold. Fuel-saving Start/Stop technology is an integral part of the system and offered as standard. The new 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo comes with a choice of two power ratings of 66 kW/90 hp and 85 kW/115 hp. Fuel consumption is as low as 4.3 l/100 km – a great value for a gasoline powered car (according to NEDC test procedure; preliminary data). The engine tops a gasoline powertrain menu including ADAM’s three current four-cylinder naturally-aspirated motors (1.2-liter with 51 kW/70 hp and 115 Nm; 1.4-liter with 64 kW/87 hp/ and 74 kW/100 hp, both delivering 130 Nm).
Not only a new generation engine, also a new generation transmission premieres in the ADAM ROCKS. Both versions of the 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo powerhouse are mated to an all-new six-speed manual gearbox with a compact package design. During its development, focus was on efficiency (thanks to reduced friction) and benchmark shifting: gear change is comfortable, fast, precise and smooth.
Following its Geneva premiere, ADAM ROCKS will go on sale in early summer when its prices are made public. Production in Eisenach, Germany, will start in August 2014.
