Alsatian traction experts Dangel carry out the 4x4 conversions at prices of €6,400 for the Combo Cargo and €6,665 for the Vivaro (plus €1,000/€300 respectively for conversion-preparation by Opel, all prices in Germany, excluding VAT).

Driver-selectable: “ECO 2WD” front-wheel drive and “AUTO 4WD” driving modes

Opel Combo and Vivaro drivers can choose between the drive modes “Eco” and “Auto 4WD” via a rotary switch on the instrument panel. In “Eco” mode, the 4x4 system is disengaged and the vehicles run in front-wheel drive only, which reduces fuel consumption and emissions, on the autobahn, for example.

If the going gets tougher, the driver can switch to “Auto 4WD” without stopping. Viscous coupling of the central differential then distributes part of the torque to the rear axle as soon as the front wheels begin to lose grip.

In even more demanding conditions drivers can select “R. Lock” to additionally lock the rear axle.

High climber: all-wheel drive tackles up to 41 degree gradients

Opel Combo Cargo 4x4 comes as standard with the active safety of ESP, protection plates for the engine and gearbox and 90 mm higher ground clearance. Additional protection for the fuel tank and rear axle, as well as 20 mm higher ground clearance (for a total of up to 300 mm), are optionally available. With approach and departure angles of 26.6 and 38.3 degrees respectively, and a break-over angle of 26 degrees, Opel Combo 4x4 can climb 41 degree gradients.

Cross-country performance of the Opel Vivaro 4x4 is also comparable with that of sport utility vehicles: With an additional ground clearance of up to 60 millimetres (for a total of up to 245 mm), approach/departure angles of up to 20.4/31.0 degrees and a break-over angle of up to 20.0 degrees.

When it comes to hill-climbing, Opel  Vivaro 4x4 can manage uphill gradients of up to 23.7 degrees, depending on the payload (up to 1,344 kilogrammes) and other factors such as tyres and road surface.

Like the rest of the Opel Combo and Vivaro ranges, the 4x4 versions aim to deliver high efficiency and low cost of ownership. A major contribution to achieving these goals is made by the turbo-diesel powertrains.

New Opel Vivaro

Opel is now taking orders for the new Vivaro, with prices starting at €24,600 (all prices in Germany, excluding VAT). Deliveries to customers will begin this summer. Compared to the previous model, the third-generation Vivaro is available in three instead of two lengths (4.60, 4.95 and 5.30 metres), able to carry a 200-kilogramme higher payload (up to more than 1,400kg) and, with a trailer capacity of up to 2,500kg, tow half a tonne more. Also, most versions are only 1.90m high and can therefore enter underground parking. A wide range of assistance systems and advanced technologies are optionally available, including IntelliGrip traction control, a 180-degree rear-view camera and multimedia infotainment. Useful features such as sensor-controlled sliding doors and FlexCargo load-through provide additional functionality.

Opel Vivaro variants: Cargo, crew cab, Combi and platform chassis

New Opel Vivaro Cargo

Opel offers the new Vivaro in four base versions. The entry-level panel van is the Vivaro Cargo priced at €24,600. The 4.60m Small is powered by the Euro 6d-TEMP certified, 75kW/102hp 1.5-litre diesel with six-speed manual transmission (NEDC fuel consumption1: urban 5.6-5.4 l/100 km, extra-urban 4.9-4.7 l/100 km, combined 5.2-4.9 l/100 km, 135-130 g/km CO2; WLTP fuel consumption2: combined 7.4-6.3 l/100 km, 194-165 g/km CO2). Opel Vivaro Cargo S offers 4.6m3 of cargo volume, which can be increased to 5.1m3 via the optional FlexCargo load-through, so that objects up to 3.32m-long (instead of 2.16m-long) can be carried inside. As the backrest of the centre-seat with the FlexCargo option can be folded and used as a table, the van can also be converted into a mobile office. Load-length and cargo volume increase to 4.02m and 6.6m3 with the Opel Vivaro Large.

For a price starting at €27,550, customers can configure their new Opel Vivaro as a crew cab with two rows of seats for up to six people. From €28,500, Opel Vivaro as FlexSpace crew cab offers even more flexibility. In this version, the standard grid behind the second row is not fixed, instead it can be folded behind the front row, which further increases the utility of the vehicle. The floor of the cargo area is covered with wood and features an anti-slip surface with aluminium rails.

The third model variant, Opel Vivaro Combi (starting price €26,250) is the right choice for transporting passengers, offering up to nine seats (depending on equipment and seating configuration) – ideal for bringing workers to the building site or employees to the office.

In addition to the previously mentioned versions, the third-generation Vivaro is also available as a platform chassis, onto which numerous conversions (such as cooled containers, tippers and recovery vehicles) can be installed.

Top technologies: Assistance systems for comfort and safety

Opel has made the new Vivaro generation safer, more comfortable and more practical than ever. For the first time customers can order sensor-controlled sliding doors – all it takes to open the doors is a movement of the foot under the corresponding side of the vehicle.

The front camera and radar-controlled assistance systems include lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, intelligent cruise control and speed limiter, forward collision warning and emergency braking, blind-spot warning and park pilot front and rear.

For the first time the Vivaro features an optional head-up display that shows important information such as speed, various assistance system settings and navigation information in the driver’s field of vision. Another novelty is the 180-degree panorama rear-view camera that displays the view behind the Vivaro on the seven-inch colour touchscreen of the Multimedia Radio and Multimedia Navi pro infotainment systems. Both are compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Multimedia Navi Pro offers Europe-wide navigation with 3D map display.

Stability and safety on a variety of slippery surfaces – such as mud, sand or snow – is provided by the advanced IntelliGrip traction control system with five modes. Twenty-five millimetres of higher ground clearance and underbody protection are available with the additional work-site set-up. Opel will also offer the new Vivaro with all-wheel drive from Dangel as soon as the order books open.

Low friction six-speed manual gearboxes or a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission contribute to the high efficiency. Service intervals of up to 50,000 km help to further reduce running costs.

Already in 2020 the range of efficient powertrains will extend to include a purely battery electric version. Opel will thus begin the electrification of its LCV portfolio and the Vivaro will not only be ready for work in villages or urban outskirts, it also be able to cover the “last mile” in inner cities.

New Opel Zafira Life: Ready to Hit the Road

New Opel Zafira Life made its world premiere at the Brussels Motor Show in January and is now available to order from €34,660 (all prices RRP incl. VAT in Germany). The flexible multi-purpose passenger car is available as the Zafira Life Selection with space for five passengers, top comfort and many practical features. The Euro 6d-TEMP-certified, 75 kW/102 hp 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine drives the front wheels (fuel consumption according to NEDC1: urban 5.4-5.3 l/100 km, extra-urban 4.9-4.7 l/100 km, combined 5.1-4.9 l/100 km, 134-129 g/km CO2; fuel consumption according to WLTP2: combined 7.2-6.1 l/100 km, 189-159 g/km CO2).

Practical benefits, comfort and safety are top priorities

New Opel Zafira Life is available as the 4.60-metre-long “Small”, the 4.95m “Medium” and the 5.30m “Large” version. The multi-adjustable comfort driver and passenger seats in the Opel Zafira Life Selection “Medium” entry-level version (€34,660) – which is especially interesting for business customers – ensure a relaxed driving experience. This is further enhanced by safety and assistance systems such as Hill Start Assist, Cruise Control and Speed Limiter as well as traction control with engine and brake intervention. The bench seat in the second row can be folded down and removed. Opel Zafira Life Selection can be configured with up to nine seats as an option. The desired temperature can be adjusted via a climate control system; in the rear the darkly tinted Solar Protect heat-absorbing glazing also helps maintain a comfortable temperature. Laptops and other electronic devices can be connected in all three rows of seats via a 12-volt socket.

New Opel Zafira Life: Top-of-the-line Business model variant

Opel Zafira Life Tourer top-of-the-line business model variant, which can be ordered from €44,600 also in “M”-size, offers as standard additional technologies and assistance systems such as Head Up display, an individually programmable Cruise Control and Speed Limiter as well as the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible infotainment system “Multimedia Radio”. The sound system features ten premium loudspeakers, amplifier and subwoofer, ensuring finest sound for first-class listening pleasure. The leather comfort seats for the driver and front passenger include massage function and heating. On warm days, a two-zone automatic climate control at the front and an additional air conditioner for the other passengers, keeps everyone cool. The roof liner with three reading lamps and ambient lighting enhances the pleasant atmosphere in the rear. The sensor-controlled electric sliding door facilitates access to the second and third rows, which each consist of two individual leather seats: a simple movement of the foot below the vehicle side is all it takes to gain easy entry.

The leather rear seats are conveniently attached to rails and can be folded and removed when necessary. Thanks to the panorama glass sunroof, passengers feel as if they are in a lounge on wheels. The second-row bench-seat can be moved forward and backward easily on rails, and folded 1/3:2/3.

New Opel Zafira Life can be configured with space for up to nine people regardless of the vehicle length.
