Opel Rocks-e KARGO

Opel is extending the model range of its emissions-free Rocks-e light motor vehicle with a new delivery version. Only 2.41 metres long, 1.39 m wide and 1.52 m tall, Opel Rocks-e KARGO offers professionals more than 400 litres of flexible cargo volume. With its turning circle of only 7.20 m, the quadricycle can manoeuvre down the narrowest alleys. Together with the electric driving range of up to 75 kilometres (WLTP1), this makes the Sustainable Urban Mobilty (SUM) vehicle from the German car manufacturer ideal for delivering goods such as parcels, pizza or medicines, especially in urban areas. Opel Rocks-e KARGO will be available to order initially in Germany and the Netherlands later this year – additional markets are planned to follow.

Opel Rocks-e KARGO: Innovative solution for delivery services

Instead of the passenger seat in the standard Opel Rocks-e two-seater, Opel Rocks-e KARGO has a modular cargo compartment, separated from the driver’s cockpit by a vertical wall. Nevertheless, the driver still enjoys the same space and driving comfort as in the passenger version.

Drivers can access the goods stowed in the cargo compartment via the passenger door as well as directly from their seat. For the latter, the horizontal cover above the load compartment simply lifts up towards the window. If goods are removed via the open passenger door, the cover can be lifted upwards. When the cover is horizontal again in its anchorage, it can support up to 40 kilograms and also serves as a practical desk with a slip-free work surface. Thanks to precisely shaped recesses, there is room for a delivery note and clipboard in A4 format as well as a laptop or tablet. Slightly elevated behind it, within easy reach, is another fold-away storage compartment for smaller objects such as sunglasses, calendars or pens. Height of the desk and storage compartment ensures an unrestricted all-round view.

To make the cargo compartment of the Opel Rocks-e KARGO even more flexible, the cover can be completely removed and stowed behind the driver's seat. This makes it possible to transport larger and taller objects. In addition, Opel Rocks-e KARGO has an adjustable loading floor on the passenger side that can be locked at seat height to create two separate compartments or lowered to floor level. This allows the stowage of objects up to 1.20 m long. Minimalist Opel Rocks-e KARGO thus offers more than 400 litres of cargo volume and a payload of 140 kg.

Electric, unconventional, practical: With all the strengths of the Opel Rocks-e family

Like the passenger version, the electric motor of the Opel Rocks-e KARGO produces 6 kW/8 hp of continuous power, with a maximum power output of 9 kW/12 hp, e.g. for accelerating. 5.5 kWh battery can be fully recharged in around four hours via an AC household socket. Accompanying 3.0-metre-long charging cable is permanently housed in the vehicle and simply pulled out of the passenger door when needed. Opel offers an adapter for charging at a public charging station.

Also typical for the Opel Rocks-e KARGO is the two-tone look of the front and rear, as well as the new Opel Vizor brand face. LED headlamps and LED indicators are standard. Side sills and bodywork further underline robust appearance. Doors on both sides are identical. Passenger-side door swings forward as usual, while the driver's door swings backwards in the opposite direction. A bright, pleasant interior atmosphere is provided by the standard panoramic glass roof, exceptional for a vehicle of this kind.

In 2022, the tradition-rich German carmaker will continue on its journey towards becoming an efficient, electric, emotional brand. Important Opel vehicles – above all-new Astra generation – will hit the road in the coming months.

2022 is special for Opel for another reason too. Year will mark the 160th anniversary of Adam Opel laying the foundations for a company that evolved from a sewing machine factory and the world's largest bicycle manufacturer to an internationally respected automotive brand. After 160 years Opel is now transforming itself again, from an automobile manufacturer to an electric mobility service provider. By 2028 Opel will offer only electric vehicles in Europe.

Right at the start of the year, Opel will be back in full swing at the Eisenach plant. Production of the new Grandland (including the electric plug-in hybrid variants) will start there in January and the SUV flagship will soon be rolling to the first customers. New Rocks-e has already arrived. Opel’s first SUM (Sustainable Urban Mobility) can be driven in Germany by 15-year-olds who hold an AM driving licence 2.

While Opel’s smallest, Rocks-e, is drawing attention in city traffic, largest Opel, new Movano, will also enter active service – also as the all-electric Movano-e. This means that customers can now choose a battery-electric version of every Opel light commercial vehicle.

In addition, since the end of this year, the new Opel Vivaro-e HYDROGEN fuel cell electric van is also in the transportation business, with a driving range of more than 400 kilometres in the WLTP cycle 3 and hydrogen-refuelling in just three minutes.

Opel therefore continues to drive forward the electrification of the brand and its models – from light vehicles (aka quadricycles) to light commercial vehicles. Focus of attention in the coming months will be the all-new generation of the Opel Astra. After its premiere in September 2021, the new five-door Astrawill be available to customers as early as next spring, also as a powerful and efficient plug-in hybrid. All-electric Opel Astra-e will complete the offer in 2023. All-new Opel Astra Sports Tourer will celebrate its official world premiere soon. Estate version of the best-seller will also be available with both conventional and electric plug-in hybrid drive next summer. By mid-2022, 11 Opel models will be electrified, including the entire LCV portfolio.

Opel Anniversary-Year 2022

Opel has a long tradition of developing its brand and models to meet the challenges of the future. In the 160th year of the company's history, this is demonstrated in particular by the successful Astra and Corsa. Latter first saw the light of day 40 years ago, in autumn 1982.

Both model series – Kadett/Astra and Corsa – still combine tradition with innovation in each new generation and are now making future mobility a reality with electrified drivetrains.

Opel is well on the way to a CO2-free future, and not just with its models and propulsion systems. The brand is also demonstrating this progress at several sites. For example, Opel and Stellantis are pushing ahead with plans to build the battery cell “giga-factory” in Kaiserslautern next year. Meanwhile in Rüsselsheim, the plan to transform the Opel headquarters into a green campus as the future German headquarters of Stellantis is taking firm shape.

New Opel Rocks-e SUM (Sustainable Urban Mobility), the German carmaker’s first all-electric quadricycle, is now available to order in Germany. With an entry-level price of only €7,990 (all RRP including VAT in Germany), the Rocks-e is the battery-electric vehicle that nearly any driver can afford. In addition, the financing rate will be similar to that of a monthly ticket for local public transportation. Opel Rocks-e can already be driven in Germany by young people from 15 years of age who hold the AM driving licence 1.

Opel Rocks-e: Entry-ticket to electric mobility

Just 2.41 metres long, 1.39 m wide (excluding exterior mirrors) and weighing only 471 kilograms (including traction battery), Opel Rocks-e is the entry-ticket to electric mobility, especially for beginners. As it is officially classified as a light motor vehicle or quadricycle, teenagers as young as 15 years1 are allowed to drive Opel Rocks-e with the AM-class driving licence in Germany.

Even the €7,990 entry-level variant already offers a range of up to 75 kilometres (WLTP 2), which can be covered at up to 45 km/h. This makes it ideal for everyday city traffic, and with a turning circle of only 7.20 m, the Rocks-e can also master tight corners and fit into small parking spaces.

Accompanying three-metre-long charging cable is permanently housed in the vehicle and simply pulled out of the passenger door when needed. Doors on both sides (which are closed from the inside by straps in Opel yellow) are identical. Passenger door swings forward as usual, while the driver's door swings backwards in the opposite direction.

Opel Rocks-e Klub and Opel Rocks-e TeKno: Colourful electrification

Opel Rocks-e Klub and Opel Rocks-e TeKno (€8,790) are even more distinctive. Wheels of both variants carry “x-Style” caps and also feature vertical black stripes on the doors. Additional eye-catchers are grey bodywork of the Rocks-e Klub and the yellow front and rear skid plates of the Rocks-e TeKno. Individual colour schemes continue in the interior, with correspondingly coloured storage nets and hooks for shopping bags, as well as grey or yellow inserts around the instruments and centre console. Even the seams of the floor mats display the same characteristic colour.

With a smartphone-holder on the centre console and DAT connectivity, Opel Rocks-e Klub and Opel Rocks-e TeKno are prepared to provide infotainment. Hands-free Bluetooth functionality for the smartphone is optionally available.

All three Opel Rocks-e variants share the same optimal packaging within the compact dimensions. The two seats are slightly offset to each other so that the front passenger has comfortable legroom and the driver can move their seat lengthwise. Headroom is ample, even for people more than 1.90 m tall. In addition to the hook for bags, Opel Rocks-e offers a luggage volume of up to 63 litres in the passenger footwell. In addition, objects such as sport bags can be stored in the compartments behind the seats. Thanks to the large windows, Opel Rocks-e drivers enjoy good all-round visibility, and a bright, pleasant interior atmosphere is provided by the standard panoramic glass roof, exceptional for a vehicle in this price category.

New Opel Rocks-e is available to order online in Germany from the comfort of home. Selected Opel dealers will offer consultation, test drives and support for the online ordering process. Deliveries of the first vehicles to dealerships will begin before the end of this year.

German carmaker Opel today presents the first SUM. New Opel Rocks-e stands for Sustainable Urban Mobility. Entry-level electric vehicle is the answer to current mobility requirements, offering electric mobility with protection from wind and rain – progressive, bold and pure, typically Opel: in tune with the zeitgeist. It can already be driven in Germany by young people from 15 years of age with the AM driving licence1. With the 2.41-metre short two-seater, Opel continues its electrification offensive. The German carmaker is expanding its model portfolio with a battery-electric SUM vehicle below the Corsa-e that nearly any driver can afford, from young beginners to urban commuters. The entry-level price for the new Opel Rocks-e in Germany will be clearly less than for a small car and the monthly leasing cost will be similar to that of a ticket for local public transportation.
