Opel Astra Sports Tourer GSe arouses emotions with dynamic driving characteristics, a sporty chassis, locally emission-free plug-in hybrid drive and its characteristic GSe design without compromising on everyday usability. This is ensured by the typical estate virtues of the compact class bestseller, such as the boot with a loading volume of up to 1,553 litres. New Opel Astra Sports Tourer GSe, which comes with numerous GSe extras and is available at prices starting at € 47,660 (RRP in Germany incl. Electrifying dynamics: GSe chassis and top plug-in hybrid

Powerful drive and the unique chassis form the basis for GSe-specific driving experience. The new Astra Sports Tourer GSe delivers a superior system output of 165 kW/225 hp – 1.6 litre four-cylinder delivers 133 kW/180 hp, the electric motor contributes up to 81.2 kW/110 hp – and maximum torque of a powerful 360 Nm (fuel consumption according to WLTP 3: 1.2-1.1 l/100 km, CO2 emissions 26-25 g/km; each combined). Top-of-the-line estate accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 235 km/h (135 km/h purely electrically). And 2.4 kWh lithium-ion battery ensures that plug-in hybrid can cover up to 63 kilometres locally emission-free according to WLTP4 (EAER City according to WLTP 4: 66-71 km).

Specially calibrated chassis, which is 10 millimetres lower, also promises dynamic driving pleasure. Compared to the “normal” variants of “Golden Steering Wheel 2022” 5 winner, GSe is designed to be even more agile and precise. Special springs and oil-pressure shock absorbers of the front and rear wheel suspension enable not only dynamic but also comfortable driving. So-called KONI FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) technology is responsible for this: Dampers align the respectively required damping force with the movement frequency of the vehicle. In this way, different damping characteristics can be achieved for comfortable gliding at high frequencies and for a sporty, ambitious driving style with more direct road contact at low frequencies. ESP settings on the GSe follow this lead: the electronic stability program intervenes later, so that GSe drivers can drive even more dynamically. Opel Astra Sports Tourer GSe offers exceptional stability and directional stability when cornering, when braking and – like every Opel – at high speeds on the “Autobahn”. Steering is also sporty tuned specifically for the GSe. It also reacts even more immediately and directly to any command from the driver.

Pure sportiness: Bold, clear Opel Astra design with GSe styling highlights

Elsewhere, like its GSe sibling, Opel Astra Sports Tourer GSe is a true eyecatcher. It comes with exclusive 18-inch alloy wheels in diamond cut/black and a characteristic GSe front bumper and rear diffuser. Inside, specific AGR-certified GSe performance seats embrace tie driver and front seat passenger. Seat and steering wheel heating ensure a feel-good atmosphere even on cold days. In addition, they come with an electrifying design: typical of the new, dynamic sub-brand, the Astra GSe and Grandland GSe come with exclusive 18 and 19-inch alloy wheels, respectively, and the characteristic GSe front bumper and rear diffuser. Inside, GSe performance seats reserved specifically for the GSe models integrate the driver and front seat passenger into the vehicle. A full range of state-of-the-art Opel assistance systems rounds off the offer. Engine, chassis, performance: Dynamic driving fun in Opel Astra GSe and Grandland GSe

With a system output of 165 kW/225 hp - the 1.6 litre four-cylinder engine delivers 133 kW/180 hp, the electric motor contributes up to 81.2 kW/110 hp - and maximum torque of 360 Nm, the new Astra GSe makes a clear statement in its class (fuel consumption according to WLTP [1]: 1.2-1.1 l/100 km, CO2 emissions 26-25 g/km; each combined). A brisk start from traffic lights and a sporty top speed are guaranteed. From a standing start, the five-door sports hatchback accelerates to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds; a top speed of up to 235 km/h is possible (135 km/h purely electrically). And thanks to the 12.4 kWh lithium-ion battery, Opel Astra GSe can cover up to 64 kilometres locally emission-free according to WLTP [2] (EAER City according to WLTP 2: 69-73 km).

In addition, GSe newcomers set the new chassis benchmark for integration and feedback to the driver. In the Astra comparison, the GSe is designed to be even more agile and precise. The chassis has been lowered by 10 millimetres. Steering, suspension and brakes respond more directly to any command from the driver. KONI FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) technology enables different damping characteristics for precise handling and high comfort depending on the situation.

This also applies to new Opel Grandland GSe. High-performance SUV even goes one better when it comes to performance: Opel Grandland GSe bundles the power of a turbo petrol engine with a displacement of 1.6 litres and 147 kW/200 hp and two electric motors – one on each axle. The electric motor on the front axle delivers up to 81.2 kW/110 hp, the on the rear axle up to 83 kW/113 hp. This results in a system output of up to 221 kW/300 hp (fuel consumption according to WLTP 1: 1.2 l/100 km, CO2 emissions 28-27 g/km; each combined, weighted). Plug-in hybrid drive makes the Grandland GSe a lively SUV with permanent electric all-wheel drive and excellent traction, and ensures best-in-class acceleration values from a standing start. GSe sprints from zero to 100 km/h in just 6.1 seconds and – like the Astra GSe – can deliver a top speed of 235 km/h (135 km/h purely electrically). With its 14.6 kWh lithium-ion battery, Grandland GSe travels up to 63 kilometres locally emission-free according to WLTP 2 (EAER City according to WLTP2: 80-81 km).

GSe at first sight: Top design and equipment for top models

With their bold and clear design including the Opel Vizor, both the new Astra generation and the Grandland make a statement. Characteristic GSe highlights now give the two top models even more sharpness and a unique appearance in every respect. Inspired by the all-electric Opel Manta GSe, the 18-inch alloy wheels in diamond cut/black on Opel Astra GSe and the 19-inch wheels on Opel Grandland GSe immediately underline the approach taken by Opel – just like the GSe-specific front end and the GSe lettering on the tailgate and the special rear diffuser do.

In the interior, the driver and front passenger can make themselves comfortable on AGR-certified, GSe exclusive Alcantara performance seats. Sporty seats are reserved exclusively for the GSe models and continue Opel's many years of experience in the development of ergonomic seats. They ensure that the driver and front passenger always enjoy a firm hold during dynamic driving, while their spine benefits from the comfortable and back-friendly design of the seats. Opel Grandland X PHEV

Opel is taking the next important step in its ongoing electrification offensive. Today, regular production of the front-wheel drive Grandland X Hybrid (fuel consumption 1.5-1.4 l/100km and CO2 emissions of 34-31 g/km in the WLTP cycle; 1.7-1.5 l/100 km, 37-35 g/km CO2 NEDC both combined and weighed) started in Eisenach. Around four months after the first Grandland X Hybrid4 (fuel consumption 1.4-1.3 l/100km and CO2 emissions of 32-29 g/km in the WLTP1 cycle; 1.6-1.5 l/100 km, 36-34 g/km CO2 NEDC both combined and weighed) with all-wheel drive rolled of the production line, the first front-wheel drive version of the highly successful SUV followed. Latest Opel plug-in hybrid impressive with an attractive entry-level price of €42.345 Euro (RRP in German including VAT – but thanks to the environmental bonus the customer only needs to pay €35,235. With this, the Grandland X Hybrid will add further momentum to Opel’s electrification offensive. The first hybrid from Eisenach with front-wheel drive was topaz blue with a black roof.

“Today is not only another great day for our plant in Eisenach – today also marks the next step in our electrification process. Opel Grandland X Hybrid will appeal to customers who want the advantages offered by an electrified SUV but do not necessarily require four-wheel drive. Given the current incentives for electrified models in many European countries, we strongly believe that the Grandland X Hybrid will prove extremely popular and play a significant role in the reduction of CO2 emissions,” said Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller.

Opel Grandland X Hybrid and Hybrid4 are built on the same production line as their siblings with conventional internal combustion engines. This increases efficiency while simultaneously reducing complexity. This enables the plant to react better to customer demand. 

With a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine and an electric motor providing drive to the front wheels, the Grandland X Hybrid produces system power and torque of 165 kW (224 hp) and up to 360 Nm of torque respectively. Driven purely by electricity, the hybrid can cover up to 57 km in the WLTP cycle1 (60-65 km NEDC 2).

High safety comes as standard, thanks to driver assistance systems such as forward collision alert with pedestrian detection and emergency braking, lane keep assist and driver drowsiness detection. With the Navi 5.0 IntelliLink infotainment system and large colour touchscreen, driver and passengers are well connected. In order to further improve efficiency, the Grandland X Hybrid features a sophisticated regenerative braking system to recover the energy produced under braking or deceleration.

Attractive price + increased incentives = hybrid accessibility from €35,235

In Germany, the highly equipped Opel Grandland X Hybrid Business Edition is available for €42,345. Furthermore, the Grandland X hybrid variants benefit from the innovation bonus including in the stimulus package of the German federal government. For a limited period until December 31, 2021, the environmental bonus for plug-in hybrids with a net price below €40,000 has been increased to €7,110 (including the VAT effect). For the Grandland X Hybrid this would mean that the manufacturer's subsidy of €2,250 is firstly deducted from the net price (€36,504), leaving €34,254. Next, VAT is added, giving a price of €39,735. Following deduction of the €4,500 state subsidy after invoicing, the total “environmental bonus” then reduces the purchase cost of the Grandland X Hybrid Business Edition from €42,345 to €35,235. The customer thus saves €7,110 when buying a new car.

Opel Ampera-e will finally eradicate the biggest downside of an electric car for everyone – range anxiety. In accordance with the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC, the current standard for range comparisons between different vehicles) the new e‑car from Rüsselsheim can clear the magical 400 kilometer barrier by a considerable margin without recharging (purely electrical range measured based on the NEDC in km: >400; provisional figure). This makes Opel’s new electric compact model by far the best in its segment. In comparison, the BMW i3, even equipped with the optional large 33 kWh battery can only cover 300 kilometers in the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle), the Nissan Leaf manages 250 kilometers, the Renault Zoe 240 kilometers and the VW e-Golf 190 kilometers. With at least 25 percent more range than its closest competitor, the Opel Ampera-e revolutionizes electro-mobility. Naturally, the maximum range in everyday use deviates from the NEDC values. In practice, factors such as road characteristics, weather conditions, driving style or additional load influence the range. However, the Ampera-e can effortlessly cover more than 300 kilometers even under average everyday conditions. Opel’s newcomer will celebrate its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show (Public days: October 1 to 16) in Hall 5-2 (booth 501).

Best in class: Opel Ampera-e boasts at least 25 percent more range than the closest competitor

“In the Ampera-e we will bring an electric car suitable for everyday use to the market. It delivers an extensive range and will be offered as of spring next year already. Opel Ampera-e is not eco-luxury, not a gadget and not a pure second car. Opel is showing that electro-mobility is also achievable for a much broader audience thanks to the most innovative technology – Opel is democratizing the electric car with the Ampera-e,” said an enthusiastic Opel CEO Dr. Karl‑Thomas Neumann.

However, the 4.17 meter long Ampera-e not only impresses with its outstanding range. It also offers space for up to five people and a trunk volume of 381 liters, which is clearly above average for cars of a similar overall length. This generous spaciousness is made possible by the clever integration of the ten battery modules. The entire package is located in the underbody and is tailored to the contours of the vehicle. This means that no space is wasted. The battery consisting of 288 lithium-ion cells and a capacity of 60 kWh was developed in cooperation with LG Chem.

Driving pleasure: First a sprint then energy recuperation

The Opel Ampera-e excites with its acceleration that is on par with sportscars. The maximum torque of 360 Nm is responsible for the electrifying temperament of the Opel newcomer. Effortless starts from a standing position (such as at traffic lights) or highway access are two of the Opel Ampera-e’s main strengths. The compact car accelerates from 0 to 50 km/h in 3.2 seconds, mid-range acceleration from 80 to 120 km/h, which is especially important for overtaking, is successfully completed in 4.5 seconds (preliminary figures). Top speed is electronically limited to 150 km/h for the benefit for the overall range. The performance of the electric engine is equivalent to 150 kW/204 hp.

But the Ampera-e has even more to offer: the revolutionary electric car allows casual and almost silent cruising while also being able to recharge the batteries when in motion. To do so, the driver just needs to ease off the accelerator in the normal “Drive” mode. The Ampera-e recuperates automatically in overrun and wins back energy from the electric motor that doubles as a generator. The motor’s braking effect is increased when the driver switches to “Low” mode, thus also increasing recuperation. Furthermore, the driver can switch to “Regen on Demand” for maximum energy recuperation via a paddle at the back of the steering wheel. The drag torque of the motor is so high in “Low/Regen on Demand” modes that the brake pedal does not need to be applied to reduce speed to a full stop in normal traffic. The Ampera-e can thus safely be controlled via the accelerator (One Pedal Driving). Obviously, the brake pedal still needs to be applied in case of emergency. Initial vehicle simulation models show that drivers can increase the range by up to five percent compared to “Drive” mode when applying “One Pedal Driving” with the corresponding full recuperation when in dense city stop-and-go traffic.

Fully connected: With Opel OnStar and smartphone integration

Outstanding digital connectivity is an integral part of a sustainable concept. Opel Ampera-e has both latest generation IntelliLink infotainment and Opel OnStar on board – the award‑winning connectivity and service assistant offers a powerful Wi-Fi hotspot for up to seven devices (depending on the market). The Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible IntelliLink systems bring the world of smartphones into the Ampera-e, thus allowing passengers complete access to their favorite music or the possibility of streaming movies.

Opel will revolutionize electromobility at the up-coming “Mondial de l’Automobile” in Paris. From October 1-16 the Opel Ampera-e – an electric car that electrifies in every way – makes its world premiere (hall 5-2, booth 501). The car with the lightning flash logo combines pioneering battery technology and localized emissions-free operation with a fun-to-drive experience, as the maximum torque of 360 Nm provides impressive acceleration figures and overtaking ability.

The maximum torque of 360 Nm is responsible for the electrifying temperament of the new Opel. The power output of the electric motor is 150 kW/204 hp (PS). Standing starts at traffic lights and entering the motorway belong to the Opel Ampera-e’s favorite disciplines. The compact car sprints to 50 km/h in only 3.2 seconds, acceleration from 80 to 120 km/h for overtaking is accomplished in just 4.5 seconds (provisional figures). The Ampera-e thus performs at the same level as OPC models, the sporty spearheads of Opel.

Fun-to-drive with the Opel Ampera-e also means swift cruising at up to 150 km/h. At the same time, the Ampera-e also offers a significantly longer range than most other electric cars. The unique, compact proportions of the Ampera-e are driven by the battery pack being mounted flat, under the vehicle floor. The efficient packaging of the battery also enables a roomy interior providing comfortable seating for five passengers and trunk space comparable with that of a car in the compact class.
