With a new addition to the diesel range, Opel now offers the Crossland X for the first time with the strong power and torque of a turbocharged diesel engine combined with the high comfort of a smooth-shifting automatic transmission. The stylish and functional sport utility vehicle (SUV) is thus available with an automatic gearbox on diesel as well as petrol engines. Also making its premiere in the Opel Crossland X is leather trim, which is available as a luxurious option on the Design Line, Innovation and Ultimate equipment versions in combination with ergonomic AGR front seats that are certified by the back specialists from Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V.

The new 1.5-litre, four-cylinder diesel produces 88 kW/120 hp and maximum torque of 300 Nm at 1750 rpm (fuel consumption[1] [2]: urban 4.4-4.3 l/100 km, extra-urban 3.8-3.7 l/100 km, combined 4.0 l/100 km, 105-104 g/km CO2). The engine meets the strict Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standard thanks to an innovative oxidation catalyst/NOx adsorber coupled with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). Opel is bringing the new Crossland X 1.5 Turbo Diesel to the market with a six-speed automatic transmission and fuel-saving start/stop as standard.
The cylinder head with integrated air intake manifold and the crankcase of the new 1.5-litre diesel are made of lightweight aluminium, while the four valves per cylinder are activated by dual overhead camshafts. The common rail direct injection system operates at up to 2,000 bar, with fuel entering the combustion chambers through eight-hole injector nozzles.
For optimum exhaust after-treatment, the emissions reduction system – consisting of a passive oxidation catalyst/NOx adsorber, AdBlue injector, SCR catalyst and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) – is grouped together as a compact single unit, as near as possible to the engine. The NOx adsorber acts as a cold start catalyst, reducing NOx emissions at temperatures below the SCR light-off. With this innovative technology the new 1.5-litre diesel meets the strict Euro 6d-TEMP standard for NOx.

Downsizing with driving fun guarantee: 1.6 CDTI whisper diesel for Opel Insignia
Whisper diesel for Opel flagship: The 1.6 liter diesels with 88 kW/120 PS and 100 kW/136 PS will replace their 2.0-liter counterparts in the Opel Insignia.
Both versions of Opel’s new 1.6 liter whisper diesel now also show in the brand’s flagship that small-displacement engines with high torque and power leave nothing to be desired. The 88 kW/120 hp and 100 kW/136 hp units replace their 2.0 liter counterparts and were developed to deliver exemplary responsiveness and low consumption with exceptional running smoothness. Together with six-speed manual transmission and the Start/Stop system, the 88 kW/120 hp turbo diesel accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 11.9 seconds, matching its predecessor. For the sprint from 80 to 120 km/h in fifth gear, it needs just 10.4 seconds, making it more than two seconds faster than its forerunner. Its moderate consumption of up to 3.9 liters per 100 kilometers is equivalent to CO2 emissions of 104 grams per kilometer (with low-rolling-resistance tires in the combined cycle). The turbo diesel with 100 kW/136 hp reduces fuel consumption by another 0.1 liters down to 3.8 liters per 100 kilometers. This brings CO2 emissions to an exemplary 99 grams per kilometer, undercutting the 100 gram limit so important for many drivers and fleets. Not one to make compromises, the engine adds five km/h to its predecessor’s top speed, reaching a maximum of 210 km/h. The Insignia sedan accelerates from zero to 100 in just 10.9 seconds and from 80 to 120 km/h in 10.4 seconds, quietly and comfortably with superb refinement. Both whisper diesel versions offer powerful 320 Nm of torque available from 2,000 rpm and can be ordered for entry-level prices of 26,670 and 28,070 euros (RRP incl. VAT in Germany) respectively.
Opel OnStar and IntelliLink with Apple CarPlay: How connectivity works today
The Opel Insignia not only offers a lot of driving fun with the new whisper diesel engines under its hood, top entertainment, all-round connectivity and highest safety are also ensured inside the cabin – with Opel OnStar and the new IntelliLink generation including Apple CarPlay integration.
The personal Connectivity und Service Assistant Opel OnStar is already on board as standard from the Edition trim level – customers can use all services free of charge for the first 12 months after activation. The extensive service offer includes 24-hour Automatic Crash Response, Stolen Vehicle Assistance, Roadside Assistance, Vehicle Diagnostics on important operating data and measurements as well as the remote control of various vehicle functions via Smartphone App. At the same time, Opel OnStar turns the Insignia into a powerful, mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot with stable internet connection. Up to seven devices can be connected to the system simultaneously – practical on journeys with family or when the Insignia serves as a mobile office.

In addition, the next generation of Opel infotainment systems brings the world of smartphones into the car even more quickly and comprehensively. For the first time, iPhone functions can be integrated via Apple CarPlay with the new Navi 900 IntelliLink. This guarantees fast access to many entertainment apps for music and news. Display and operation are via the eight-inch color touchscreen. IntelliLink also enables audio streaming, having incoming SMS read aloud and voice control as well as watching films and videos – the former, of course, only when the car is stationary. The navigation system also features maps of more than 30 European countries; it can be displayed two or three-dimensionally according to personal preference and be controlled by voice command.

Another economical choice for the Zafira Tourer: the versatile Opel seven-seater is now available in a second 1.6 CDTI ecoFLEX version with a power output of 88 kW/120 hp. This joins the 100 kW/136 hp turbo diesel which made its debut in the compact van last year. Both are members of Opel’s new diesel generation and distinguished by exceptionally economical fuel consumption with first-class running smoothness as well as minimal noise generation, which has prompted the motoring press to hail Opel’s 1.6 CDTI ecoFLEX engine as the “whisper diesel”. It is part of Opel’s large model and engine offensive, which will see 27 new models and 17 new engines introduced between 2014 and 2018. The new base version of the Zafira Tourer diesel is now on sale for a very attractive 26,850 euros (RRP incl. VAT in Germany).
A clear focus on minimizing engine noise, vibration and harshness characterized the engine’s entire concept, design and development process. This resulted in a very quiet and silky smooth engine operation. Advanced CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) simulation tools and several optimization loops were used to assess the noise character of each component and sub-system before the first prototype engine was even built. The success of this work is proven by the engine’s best-in-class performance for low noise and vibration.
Opel ECOTEC 1.6 CDTI : Opel’s new diesel generation is distinguished by exceptionally economical fuel consumption with first-class running smoothness as well as minimal noise generation.
The new engine generation is also first class in other areas: it has been further optimized in terms of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The Zafira Tourer with the 88 kW/120 hp 1.6 CDTI ecoFLEX comes with Start/Stop fitted as standard, and is also available with a low-friction six-speed manual transmission and a braking energy recuperation system. To ensure optimum electrical energy management, this system recovers a part of the kinetic energy via the generator in engine overrun mode, converting this to electrical energy and feeding it into the battery. This happens automatically whenever the driver takes his/her foot off the accelerator pedal or presses the brake pedal. When the battery is sufficiently charged, the generator output is greatly reduced and electrical components are powered in a fuel-saving manner by the buffered electrical energy. This means the engine is not required to drive the generator when accelerating, which helps reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. This cyclical process would overload a conventional battery when repeated over time, so a high-performance, Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) battery is fitted in the Zafira Tourer. It provides maximum reliability in the electrical system and ensures the engine will always start without delay at any time. The AGM battery’s glass mat fleece absorbs electrolyte liquid, giving a high density which reduces internal resistance, improves cold-start characteristics and increases the battery’s service life.

Thanks to these ultra-modern technologies, the new Zafira Tourer whisper diesel is not only extremely quiet and comfortable to drive. It also offers significantly reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, consuming just 4.5 l/100 km in the combined cycle with emissions of only 119 g/km CO2. This frugality has earned the seven-seat Zafira Tourer an ‘A’ energy efficiency label in Germany.
Opel’s new diesel generation: Powerful, economical, environmentally-friendly
Both output versions (120 and 136 hp) of the Zafira Tourer 1.6 CDTI comply with future Euro 6 emission standards. Engineers have achieved this by incorporating Opel’s BlueInjection selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system, which makes these diesels as clean as a gasoline engine in terms of emissions. In this environmentally-friendly, exhaust after-treatment process, a harmless fluid called AdBlue®, consisting of urea and water, is injected into the exhaust gas. The solution decomposes into ammonia, which is stored in a catalyst substrate. Nitrogen oxide (NOx) entering the catalyst in the exhaust gas is then selectively reduced to nitrogen and water. In this way, nitrogen oxides can be reduced by 60 to 80 percent.
The 1.6 CDTI engine’s cylinder block, crankshaft bedplate and cylinder head are all made from aluminum, saving more than 20 kilograms in weight. Fuel injector nozzle pressures of 2,000 bar, a 25 percent increase over previous engine generations, enable up to 10 injection pulses per cylinder cycle. This ensures high power, improved fuel atomization and efficient mixing with the air intake charge.
The two new generation ultra-efficient whisper-quiet 1.6 CDTI engines now complete a wide portfolio of diesel units for the Zafira Tourer. The spectrum of choice includes Opel’s familiar 2.0-liter diesel, with 81 kW/110 hp, 96 kW/130 hp or 121 kW/165 hp, as well as the top-of-the-range version which delivers143 kW/195 hp and 400 Nm maximum torque. The gasoline portfolio comprises an 85 kW/115 hp 1.8-liter engine and variants of a 1.4-liter Turbo with 88 kW/120 hp or 103 kW/140 hp, as well as a 125 kW/170 hp version of the 1.6 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo. The most powerful gasoline engine in the Zafira Tourer range is the 1.6 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo with 147 kW/200 hp – both versions of the direct-injection gasoline turbo unit are part of Opel’s all-new engine generation.
Customers who seek even more economical and environmentally-friendly driving can choose a 103 kW/140 hp, 1.4 LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) ecoFLEX model or the 1.6 CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) ecoFLEX variant with 110 kW/150 hp.

There has been much speculation, and now it’s certain: the new Opel Corsa will be introduced this year. It is currently on the home stretch to series production, with the final validation drives in camouflage taking place to test the harmonious fine-tuning of all components. Opel Corsa E doesn’t just feature the new-generation 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo gasoline engine with new six-speed manual transmission, it also boasts a newly developed chassis and superbly tuned steering. Opel engineers were secretly on the road with four validation prototypes in the Palatinate region south-west of Frankfurt am Main. The test vehicles were equipped with the new, powerful 85 kW/115 hp, 1.0 liter three-cylinder Direct Injection Turbo engine with both Sport and Comfort chassis. For the sake of comparison, the current Opel Corsa D 1.4 (74 kW/100 hp) and 1.4 Turbo (88 kW/120 hp) accompanied the test vehicles.
