High savings potential: Opel Insignia with Best-in-Class Total Cost of Ownership

  • High savings potential: Exemplary economical TCO values per kilometre
  • High-class equipment: Business Edition with numerous extras as standard
  • Wildly popular: Already many awards for new Opel flagship generation

High savings potential: Opel Insignia is best-in-class for total cost of ownership.

The new Opel Insignia is the economic wonder in the mid-size class. The Opel flagship impresses as much with its sporty style, premium comfort and top technologies as it does with its cost-effectiveness. Customers benefit from a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) for the Insignia than for comparable competitors in the high-volume and premium segment. This makes the Insignia Grand Sport and Sports Tourer particularly attractive for both private and fleet customers.

Cost effective: Class-leading total cost of ownership makes the Opel Insignia Sports Tourer estate (photo) and Grand Sport sedan especially attractive for private as well as business customers.

Business Edition: Top equipment at special price

Especially the Business trim levels offer high comfort and a host of technologies as standard in a complete package for an extremely attractive price. The Insignia Business Edition already comes with features such as the Navi 900 IntelliLink infotainment system and integrated navigation as well as the AGR-certified (Campaign for Healthier Backs) ergonomic seat. This abundance of equipment is one of the reasons for the Insignia’s high resale value.

But many other factors also ensure that the Opel flagship pays off more than the competitors in its segment: thanks to ultra-modern production methods and high-class materials the Insignia achieves an outstanding level of quality, which is important for a long life cycle with stable residual values. In addition, clever engineering, efficient propulsion systems, innovative technologies and assistance systems make driving safer. This all results in favourable insurance ratings, low servicing and repair costs as well as reduced fuel costs.

As Turbo diesel or Turbo petrol unit: Opel Insignia pays off

According to current calculations and based on current prices (more information below) the total cost of ownership for the Insignia Grand Sport Business Edition with a 100 kW/136 hp 1.6 liter Turbo diesel (NEDC fuel consumption with Start/Stop and six-speed manual transmission: urban 5.11 l/100 km, extra-urban 3.9[1] l/100 km, combined 4.31 l/100 km, 1141 g/km CO2) is an extremely economical €0.35 per kilometre driven. It’s a similar situation with the identically motorised and equipped Insignia Sports Tourer (NEDC fuel consumption with Start/Stop and six-speed manual transmission: urban 5.3 l/100 km, extra-urban 4.1 l/100 km, combined 4.5 l/100 km, 119 g/km CO2): the correspondingly calculated total cost of ownership is just under €0.38 per kilometre driven. The Insignia Sports Tourer Business Edition with the 2.0-litre Turbo diesel with 125 kW/170 hp (NEDC fuel consumption with Start/Stop and six-speed manual transmission: urban 6.9 l/100 km, extra-urban 4.3 l/100 km, combined 5.3 l/100 km, 139 g/km CO2) also impresses with exemplary TCO values which are currently only €0.38 per kilometre driven on the afore-mentioned basis – compared to almost €0.42 for the closest comparable competitor.

But it’s not just the Opel Insignia diesel variants, the petrol models also pay off in terms of total cost of ownership: the Business Edition with the 121 kW/165 hp 1.5 litre Turbo ECOTEC unit (NEDC fuel consumption with Start/Stop and six-speed manual transmission: urban 7.5-7.3 l/100 km, extra-urban 4.9-4.8 l/100 km, combined 5.8-5.7 l/100 km, 133-130 g/km CO2) also boasts high economy with the Grand Sport just under €0.43 and the Sports Tourer just under €0.44 per kilometre.

The total cost of ownership is calculated from the costs for maintenance[2], insurance, fuel consumption (official fuel consumption in the New European Driving Cycle NEDC according to Regulation (EC) No 715/2007 and Regulation (EC) No 692/2008 in the applicable versions[3]) and taxes as well as the expected depreciation after three years and 90,000 kilometres (diesel vehicles) or five years and 100,000 kilometres (petrol vehicles). The basis for this is the data provided by the independent organisation Audatex Cost-of-Ownership Solutions in the autumn of 2017, as well as the current GDV insurance classifications on typklasse.de. The fuel prices used in the calculation were obtained from www.benzinpreis.de (status October 2017: petrol - €1.374/litre, diesel - €1.188/litre), published in ams autokauf in the autumn of 2017. The residual values are based on the prognoses of Bähr & Fess Forecasts.

Simply superb: The Opel flagship impresses

The Opel Insignia thus offers an attractive overall package that wins over customers and experts alike. Even though the youngest generation of Opel’s flagship has been on Europe’s roads for just a few months, it has already received a number of awards. These include the “Golden Steering Wheel” 2017 in Poland (Auto Swiat) and Slovenia (Auto Bild) as well as “Best Car 2017” (Fleet Cars & Vans, Fleet Auto Premium) in Poland and “Fleet News of the Year” (FLEET Magazine) in the Czech Republic.

Hitting the track: New Opel Insignia Country Tourer features a tough off-road look and innovative technologies such as FlexRide suspension and optional all-wheel drive with torque vectoring.

At the same time as the new Insignia Country Tourer, Opel Exclusive – which is also available for the Insignia Grand Sport and Sports Tourer – is being launched. The personalization concept allows Insignia buyers to choose exactly the color they want. Initially, the regular color portfolio will be expanded by 15 additional shades, and soon Opel will offer an unlimited amount of options. Customers’ favorite lipstick, their daughter’s eye color or a picture of the dark blue evening sky can in future serve as the sample for their own individual paint tone. The Black Pack gives the Exclusive model an extra sporty touch with high-gloss black

Opel grille bar and window trim strips, exterior mirrors and much more. And a complementary design from a range of light alloy wheels can also be selected. The Exclusive line will also soon be expanded with an even larger selection of leather interior options and decorative design elements – resulting in unique automobiles personalized according to their owner’s taste. In addition, every Opel Insignia ordered as an Exclusive model comes with a host of standard trim features on top: Navi 900 IntelliLink with an eight-inch color touchscreen, Solar Protect heat-absorbing glazing as well as groundbreaking IntelliLux LED  Matrix light are all on board. Thus equipped, for example the Insignia Country Tourer as an Exclusive model is available from €35,885.

Tough shell, comfortable interior: Opel Insignia for “country fans”

The new Opel Insignia Country Tourer features the same qualities as its siblings – sporty, elegant styling, the completely new, lightweight architecture, state-of-the-art assistance systems and innovative technologies such as the highly praised IntelliLux LED Matrix light consisting of 32 LED segments unique in this vehicle class – and much more.

The prominent landscape grille and slim headlamps offer a wide horizontal impression, whilst the silver colored skid plate helps to pull the car down to underline the solid stance. Molded black protective cladding in the lower fascia, the wheel arches and along the lower body side emphasize the rugged appearance. Just like the front, the rear end also delivers adventurous cues, such as a skid plate and dual exhaust bezels that reinforce the more powerful and wider impression.

Matching the character of the rugged all-rounder, the new Insignia Country Tourer is above all extremely practical. In order to make loading as easy as possible, the tailgate optionally available for €455 can be opened without touching the car. In combination with “Keyless Open & Start” a simple kicking motion under the rear bumper is enough to open the tailgate. Another kicking motion under the bumper will close the tailgate. In order to increase loading space to 1,665 liters, the new Insignia Country Tourer comes with standard 40/20/40 foldable rear seats enabling even more flexible loading space configurations. The rear seat bank can be folded down by simply pushing the buttons located in the luggage compartment. And the standard roof railing not only emphasizes the adventurous look but also increases the application spectrum of the new Insignia Country Tourer allowing the rugged station wagon to carry roof loads of up to 100 kilograms. In the interior, the driver and especially rear passengers enjoy plenty of space. Top comfort is ensured by the optional AGR (Campaign for Healthier Backs) certified ergonomic seats with seat ventilation and massage function (€690) for driver and front passenger.

For all terrains: Leading propulsion and chassis technologies

The new Opel Insignia Country Tourer packs a punch with powerful turbo gasoline and turbo diesel engines. The top-of-the-line unit is the two-liter Turbo gasoline direct injection engine with 191 kW/260 hp (NEDC fuel consumption: urban 11.5 l/100 km, extra-urban 7.3 l/100 km, combined 8.9 l/100 km, 203 g/km CO2), new eight-speed automatic transmission and state-of-the-art Twinster all-wheel drive. Initially the most powerful diesel is the 125 kW/170 hp two-liter diesel, also optionally available with all-wheel drive (NEDC fuel consumption: urban 8.4 l/100 km, extra-urban 5.4 l/100 km, combined 6.5 l/100 km, 172 g/km CO2). An even more powerful top-of-the-line diesel will enhance the portfolio in the near future.

Twenty-five millimeters of additional ground clearance along with the innovative all-wheel drive with torque vectoring and the new five-link rear suspension cater for the wish to leave asphalt roads and give the Insignia Country Tourer the most polished system in its class. Instead of a traditional rear differential, which transmits equal amounts of torque to the rear wheels, the Opel Insignia Country Tourer boasts two electrically controlled multi-plates clutches which enable a more individual and precise transmission of power to each wheel – irrespective of road or weather conditions. To counteract the understeer tendency in tight corners taken at higher speeds, the system, depending on the acceleration command and steering movement, sends more torque to the outside rear wheel. This happens without any further driver intervention and in a split second. This stabilizes the vehicle. Furthermore, the Insignia turns in with more precision, responding more spontaneously to inputs from the driver. This results in neutral vehicle behavior, making the car more stable and steerable for the driver no matter what the situation.

The further improved FlexRide chassis provides the basis for optimal, situation-based driving behavior. It adapts the dampers, steering, throttle response and shift points (on automatics) independently or based on the modes ‘Standard’, ‘Sport’ or ‘Tour’ which can be selected by the driver. The new central ‘Drive Mode Control’ software is the heart and soul of the adaptive chassis. It continuously analyzes the information provided by the sensors and settings and recognizes the individual driving style.

Initially the engine portfolio will be rounded off by a front-wheel drive 125 kW/170 hp two liter diesel – with six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic gearbox (NEDC fuel consumption: urban 7.6-7.1 l/100 km, extra-urban 5.0-4.6 l/100 km, combined 6.0-5.5 l/100 km, 157-145 g/km CO2) and the 121 kW/165 hp

1.5 Direct Injection Turbo with six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission (NEDC fuel consumption: urban 8.0-7.9 l/100 km, extra-urban 5.7-5.6 l/100 km, combined 6.5-6.4 l/100 km, 149-147 g/km CO2).

Like no other: Insignia à la Opel Exclusive

Those who want to drive a truly unique Insignia Country Tourer, Sports Tourer or Grand Sport will have a nearly unlimited range of design options. The new magical formula is called Opel Exclusive – including personalized exterior colors. So in future customers can choose not only from the regular colors plus a special Exclusive color collection – Opel will reproduce any individual paint tone desired. All that is needed is a concrete example, be it a photograph or a tie, for instance. The color code alone is also enough to create the desired dream color.

In the next step, Opel makes a paint sample – after all, customers should be able to clearly imagine and decide how the color looks on their car and what effect the finish should have. From puristic unicolor to classic metallic or deep pearly shine finish, everything is possible; this all depends on the paint composition. And by coloring normally transparent clear lacquer, red shades, for instance, are enriched with a special depth of color.

In addition, in future Insignia customers can choose from special light alloy wheel designs and select the exceptional Black Pack. With it, the normally chrome body parts such as the grille bar, window trim strips and much more, including exterior mirrors if desired, shine in high-gloss black finish, emphasizing the car’s sporty character even more.

Special service: as part of the Exclusive program, customers can create their vehicle in ultra-high definition resolution in the digital 4K showroom.

All-New Buick Regal Debuts at Auto Shanghai 2017

The all-new Buick Regal made its Asian debut today at Auto Shanghai 2017. It provides a sleek, sporty, coupe-like design plus the spirited performance of a premium sports sedan and unexpected versatility in one sophisticated package for a perfect balance of form and function.

All-New Buick Regal

The Regal was originally introduced in the United States in 1973 and China in 2002. It has become popular among younger car buyers due to its styling and high-tech features. Last year, Regal deliveries in China exceeded 71,000 vehicles.

Drawing design inspiration from the Buick Avista concept, the all-new Regal has a wing-shaped grille that is complemented by wing-shaped dual LED daytime running lamps for a strong horizontal visual effect. Its second-generation Matrix Full-LED headlights give the new model a high-tech feel.

The wheelbase of the all-new Buick Regal has been extended 92 mm from the previous generation to 2,829 mm, while its wind drag coefficient has been reduced to 0.26. Providing a longer, lower center of gravity and coupe-like design, the model combines the spirited performance of a coupe with the generous stance of a premium sedan, setting a new trend for the segment.

As one of Buick's key global models, the all-new Regal will be offered in three variants with two powertrain options.

The 28T and 20T variants come standard with a nine-speed Hydra-Matic intelligent transmission. The transmission has a compact, efficient design along with a wider gear ratio range, optimizing fuel economy and significantly reducing engine noise while cruising. The transmission also delivers smoother, quicker gear shifting and acceleration in combination with two intelligent direct-injection turbocharged engines: GM's new-generation 1.5T SIDI small-displacement engine and its high-performance 2.0T SIDI engine, which has been named one of Ward's 10 Best Engines.

The upcoming all-new Buick Regal 30H variant will adopt GM's latest electrification technology.

New Opel Insignia Sports Tourer and Grand Sport: Order books open on February

As of February 20, the new Opel flagship is available to order as a Insignia Grand Sport from €25,940 (all prices RRP incl. VAT in Germany) and as a Sports Tourer from €26,940. And the new generation Opel  Insignia is proving to be irresistible: the newcomer not only stands out with its elegantly sporty silhouette featuring exemplary aerodynamics (CD of just 0.26 for the coupé-like five-door) but is also full of technological innovations.

Dynamic duo: New Opel Insignia Sports Tourer and Grand Sport impress with their exciting design, top technologies and luxurious comfort, without any compromises in practicality.

All in all, the new Insignia impresses with improved agility and spaciousness along with excellent value for money, making it a strong challenger even for premium brand models. The new Opel Insignia starts as standard with driver assistance systems such as forward collision alert with pedestrian recognition, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist with automatic steering correction and following distance indication. The active hood for improved pedestrian protection rounds off the significant increase in safety. Elsewhere, even the basic version comes with a touchscreen.

The second generation Insignia is based on an all-new architecture. It weighs up to 175 kilograms less than the outgoing model as a Grand Sport limousine, and up to 200 kg less as a spacious Sports Tourer station wagon. This substantial mass reduction and the new, extremely precise steering system are responsible for the improved driving dynamics.

Furthermore, the all-new Opel flagship debuts with a wide range of highly efficient engines and friction-optimized transmissions designed to provide better efficiency and lower fuel costs. Fuel consumption of the expected volume engines available for the Grand Sport (gasoline: 1.5 liter Turbo; diesel: 1.6 CDTI) is down by three to ten percent compared with the equivalent outgoing models, according to the Worldwide Harmonized Light-Duty Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP).

Opel already announced in December 2015 that the company will provide consumption figures based on the WLTP driving cycle for future models. The WLTP driving cycle will become legally binding as of the fall of 2017 and, compared with the currently applicable NEDC, is closer aligned to real driving behavior. Starting with the new Astra, Opel already began providing CO2 and fuel consumption data gathered in accordance with WLTP driving cycle in addition to the official NEDC data as of June 2016. This gives Opel customers a more realistic estimate of the daily consumption of their vehicle. Tests conducted by renowned publications such as Italian magazine Quattroruote already show that the Opel data collected in accordance with the WLTP driving cycle comes very close to real-life consumption.

New gasoline and refined diesel engines available at start of sales

Extremely efficient gasoline unit: 1.5 liter all-aluminum, turbo-charged direct injection engine is available in two output levels with 103 kW/140 hp and 122 kW/165 hp.

The engine portfolio of the new Opel Insignia Grand Sport starts with a newly designed extremely efficient gasoline unit, the 1.5 liter turbo available in two output levels. The entry-level engine offers 103 kW/140 hp (NEDC fuel consumption Grand Sport: urban 7.3 l/100 km, extra-urban 4.7 l/100 km, combined 5.7 l/100 km; 129 g/km CO2) and impresses with powerful torque of 250 Nm between 2,000 and 4,100 rpm. The more powerful 121 kW/165 hp version (NEDC fuel consumption Grand Sport: urban 7.0 l/100 km, extra-urban 4.9 l/100 km, combined 5.7 l/100 km; 130 g/km CO2) has everything that it takes to be the bestselling gasoline engine available for the Insignia family.

Compared to the already very efficient 1.6 liter Turbo (125 kW/170 hp) used in the outgoing model, the new engine reduces consumption in accordance with the WLTP driving cycle on average by around another three percent.

The 1.5 liter all-aluminum, turbo-charged direct injection unit has the largest displacement of all the ultra-modern three and four-cylinder members of Opel’s small gasoline engine family. The new 1.5 liter high-tech four-cylinder also impresses with sharp throttle response and ample torque in every situation – two typical features of these units. A further highlight is the top-of-the-range gasoline engine for the new Opel Insignia.

The 2.0 liter turbo delivers 191 kW/260 hp and maximum torque of 400 Nm between 3,000 and 4,000 rpm (NEDC fuel consumption Grand Sport: urban 11.5 l/100 km, extra-urban 7.0 l/100 km, combined 8.6 l/100 km; 197 g/km CO2). The 2.0 liter, four-cylinder unit comes in combination with the completely new eight-speed automatic transmission, which shifts smoothly, and a highly sophisticated all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring – a unique feature in the midsize segment. On this high-tech all-wheel drive system, two multi-plate clutches replace a conventional rear axle differential and can accelerate the wheels individually in a split-second depending on the driving situation.

The propulsion offering is rounded off by the new six-speed manual transmission for the popular 1.6 liter diesel engines with outputs of 81 kW/110 hp (NEDC fuel consumption Insignia Grand Sport: urban 4.6 l/100 km, extra-urban 3.6 l/100 km, combined 4.0 l/100 km; 105 g/km CO2) and 100 kW/136 hp (NEDC fuel consumption  Insignia Grand Sport: urban 5.1 l/100 km, extra-urban 3.9 l/100 km, combined 4.3 l/100 km; 114 g/km CO2). This new combination of friction-optimized manual transmission and refined 1.6 CDTI with 81 kW/110 hp results in average fuel savings in the WLTP driving cycle of ten percent compared to the outgoing model.

In addition, Opel will offer the refined 2.0 liter diesel with 125 kW/170 hp and maximum torque of 400 Nm (NEDC fuel consumption  Insignia Grand Sport: urban 6.7 l/100 km, extra-urban 4.3 l/100 km, combined 5.2 l/100 km; 136 g/km CO2).
