New Opel Corsa GSE: Hot Hatch Tradition Reloaded

  • Back to the future: Opel Corsa GSE revives the tradition of sporty Corsa models
  • Small, strong, fast: 207 kW (281 hp), 345 Nm, from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds
  • From the Opel Corsa A GSi to the new Opel Corsa GSE: Each Corsa generation enthuses fans with at least one highly dynamic version

Compact, quick and seriously powerful: the new Opel Corsa GSE 1 delivers electrifying driving pleasure in its purest form! This new everyday performance car – which will arrive later this year and will celebrate its exhibition premiere at the Paris Motor Show in October – is turning heads not just with its striking, racy ‘hot hatch’ design. Above all, its performance figures speak for themselves: With 207 kW (281 hp) and 345 Newton metres of torque it will offer just as much electric power as the Opel Mokka GSE. Added to this is the fastest acceleration of any current Opel production model: in just 5.5 seconds, the Opel Corsa GSE propels the speedometer needle from 0 to 100 km/h 1. This is high performance in a compact package and makes the new Corsa GSE the most powerful production Corsa to date.

At the same time, the new high-performance version of Germany’s and UK’s bestselling small car takes the sporty GSi genes of the first Corsa generation into the future. Ever since the first generation of the model, Opel has been offering Corsa fans the chance to drive an extra-hot and sporty version of the beloved small car. The ‘hot hatch’ fun all began in 1988 with the Corsa GSi. Since 2007, the various versions and generations of the Corsa OPC have been providing adrenaline rushes. And now the new, all-electric Corsa GSE is on the starting blocks, ready to deliver the ultimate driving experience a small car can offer!

The first Opel Corsa GSi: A car as dynamic as a motorcycle

In 1988, the first Opel Corsa GSi entered the market. A car as dynamic as a motorcycle: ultra-compact, 820 kilogrammes light, with prominent wheel-arches, sports seats, 74 kW (100 hp) and 188 km/h fast.

The 1.6-litre injection engine newly developed for the launch accelerated the sportive first-generation Opel Corsa to 100 km/h in around 9.5 seconds. With powerful low-end torque, the car has always brought a smile to Opel Corsa GSi drivers’ faces when they step on the accelerator pedal. To bring the higher performance and agility onto the road, Opel engineers adapted the chassis and brakes of the Corsa to the GSi specification. The extra features included stiffer springs, specially tuned shock absorbers as well as larger, internally ventilated front disc brakes. Anti-roll bars at the front and rear kept the car safely on track in corners.

The designers also reflected the sporty character of the first Opel Corsa GSi in its appearance. The standard specification at the time already included sports seats, a three-spoke sport steering wheel, a rev counter, sports alloy wheels and wide tyres. With its technology and design, the first-generation Opel Corsa GSi paved the way for future generation sporty Corsa models.

GSi = fun-to-drive: Opel Corsa B GSi and Opel Corsa C GSi boost performance

A particularly sporty model variant hit the road in 1993, the Opel Corsa GSi 16V. It featured colour-keyed side-sills and bumpers as well as front and rear spoilers. The standard equipment also included electronically controlled ABS, a rev-counter and wide tyres.

As most powerful Corsa model of its time, the second-generation Opel Corsa GSi offered 80 kW (109 hp) and impressed once more with plenty of power from low revs (‘low-end torque characteristics’). The small car could sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 195 km/h. A sporty chassis and gas-filled shock absorbers helped to bring the performance onto the road. The Corsa driver could shift gear using the five-speed sports gearbox, and the standard power steering helped to steer through tight bends with ease. Sports seats and a leather-trimmed steering wheel created the right atmosphere in the cockpit.

In 2001, the Opel Corsa C GSi followed in the footsteps of its predecessor – stronger, faster and more powerful than before. With a top speed of 202 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.0 seconds, the third-generation Corsa GSi was the fastest production Corsa to date. At the same time, the Corsa GSi’s 92 kW (125 hp) 1.8-litre engine impressed not only in terms of power but also, thanks to 165 Newton metres of torque, with sporty bursts of acceleration while maintaining modest fuel consumption. This was made possible by an advanced engine management system controlling sequential fuel injection, particularly precise fuel distribution, ignition and other functions. Even back then, the developers focused on delivering sporty driving pleasure in the most resource-efficient way possible.

Start of the Opel Corsa OPC era in 2007: Even sportier, stronger and more expressive

From 2007 onwards, the ‘OPC’ abbreviation had finally come to stand for pure dynamic driving fun in the Opel Corsa as well. In that year, Opel presented the Corsa D OPC with 141 kW (192 hp) and 266 Newton metres of torque. With a dark-contrasting diffuser, striking gills, powerful front and rear aprons and a roof spoiler, the OPC showed at first glance what drivers could expect. But the end of the line had not yet been reached. In 2010, the Corsa OPC ‘Nürburgring Edition’ – the most powerful Corsa to date – followed. Its characteristics: 154 kW (210 hp), 280 Newton metres of torque, from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 230 km/h! The newly developed Bilstein performance chassis and the special high-performance braking system from Brembo brought the power safely to the road.

Opel continued to cater to GSi fans amongst Corsa drivers too: For all those who preferred a more discreet sportiness with superior power delivery, Opel had also the fourth-generation Corsa GSi on offer. With 110 kW (150 hp) and a top speed of 210 km/h, the for the first time turbo-charged car closed the gap between the ‘ordinary’ production Corsa and the high-performance OPC variant.

The OPC of the fifth-generation Corsa, which followed in 2015, also demonstrated right from the start that, whether on the famous Green Hell of the Nürburgring race track or in the urban jungle, the Corsa E OPC feels at home anywhere. Once again being the fastest member of the Corsa family with a top speed of 230 km/h, it combined uncompromising sportiness with superb everyday practicality. This sporty car, just under four metres long, impressed with its powerful turbo engine delivering 152 kW (207 hp) and 280 Newton metres of torque, its agile handling and, last but not least, its sporty design: Recaro performance seats, a flat-bottomed leather steering wheel and sports pedals inside, as well as large air intakes, a strongly contoured bonnet, bold side skirts, a dominant rear spoiler and the twin exhaust tailpipes flanked by a diffuser on the outside all bore witness to the power of the Corsa OPC. And to channel this power onto the road in a controlled manner, the Corsa E OPC featured, for the first time, a suspension system with Frequency Selective Damping technology.

‘Hot hatch’, the next level: The new Opel Corsa GSE electrifies the public

To all who want to experience an exhilarating, high-performance driving experience in a state-of-the-art small car before the end of this year will not have to wait much longer. The new Opel Corsa GSE is on the way. It succeeds the Opel Corsa OPC as the most powerful Corsa to date and takes the ‘hot hatch’ experience to the next level – uncompromising, thrilling and, above all, fully electric and locally emissions-free. After all, that is exactly what GSE stands for: Grand Sport Electric!

With 207 kW (281 hp) – that is 181 hp per 1,000 kilogrammes of vehicle weight! – and 345 Newton metres of torque, the new Opel Corsa GSE will offer just as much electric power as the Opel Mokka GSE. At the same time, however, the top-of-the-line version of the model family becomes even more dynamic. With an acceleration of just 5.5 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h1, the high-performance Corsa pushes its driver into the GSE sports seat more vehemently than any other current Opel production model.

Sophisticated technology also contributes to the exceptional performance, handling stability and direct feedback: the Opel Corsa GSE has front-wheel drive with Torsen-multi-plate limited-slip differential and a lowered sports chassis with specifically designed axles, stabilisers and hydraulic shock absorbers. GSE-optimised steering and pedal tuning underlines the highly dynamic driving experience. And if necessary, four-piston performance brakes ensure immediate deceleration from high speeds.

The new Opel Corsa GSE confidently showcases its performance. Numerous details – from the GSE-specific front and rear to 18-inch wheels, performance seats, yellow seatbelts to digital displays with performance data and much more – create a Corsa GSE design with genuine wow-factor and demonstrate what emotional, all-electric ‘hot hatch’ driving fun is all about in its purest form.

From now on, it is also available as a colourful Mokka YES special edition with attractive extras for prices starting at €30,340 (RRP incl. VAT in Germany). After the success of the Opel Corsa YES, customers who want to stand out from the crowd even more can now also do so with their very special Opel Mokka. With this, Opel is adding further flavour to the Mokka range after already introducing the highly dynamic top-of-the-line Mokka GSE.

“The Opel Mokka is a real eye-catcher in every variant. But we wanted to make the compact customer favourite even more varied. This is exactly what the new YES special edition stands for. At the same time, we are increasing the selection for all those who want to make a personal, extra-stylish statement with their vehicle. From now on, YES fans can choose between the Corsa, Germany's most popular small car, and the confidently designed Mokka,” said Patrick Dinger, Head of Opel Germany.

Like its Corsa counterpart, the new Opel Mokka YES also relies on strong colours and attractive series extras. The special edition is recognisable at first glance thanks to the unusual Koral Orange paint finish. The interior design is specially matched to the unmistakable colour. The decors around the instrument panel, the seat inserts as well as the stitching in seats and doors also shine in radiant orange. On the outside, the standard black 17-inch alloy wheels, the black roof and the matching lower front, side and rear areas, as well as the optional black bonnet, provide a characteristic contrast and an independent appearance. Those who prefer to set accents with a different paint finish, can alternatively choose from the colour palette of the GS line with a matching interior.

Comfort in the Opel Mokka YES is increased by standard additional features such as the six-way adjustable front seats and the armrest between driver and front passenger. All the necessary information is provided by the 10-inch driver information display and the 10-inch multimedia infotainment system’s colour touchscreen. Smartphones can be connected wirelessly via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Parking and manoeuvring in the city is made easier by the reversing camera, which is also standard. Privacy and protection from sunlight in the rear are provided by the dark-tinted rear windows.

In addition, various packages are on offer that further enhance the new Opel Mokka YES. While the tech packages include features such as front parking assist or adaptive cruise control, the infotainment package has integrated navigation with over-the-air updates, natural voice recognition and wireless charger. The comfort package offers, among other things, a double load floor and the winter package features heated front seats and steering wheel.

Opel Mokka YES customers can choose from three drivetrains. The locally emissions-free Opel Mokka Electric YES offers 115 kW (156 hp) and the hybrid version comes with 107 kW (145 hp) and electrified six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Alternatively, a classic 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 100 kW (136 hp) is also available.

Opel Confirms Strategic Steps Towards Local Vehicle and Engine Production in Algeria

  • During the German-Algerian Economic Forum in Berlin today, the already announced Opel vehicle plant was confirmed as part of the cooperation between Germany and Algeria
  • In addition, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Berlin between Opel Automobile GmbH and AGM Holding Company SpA to localise the first engine production in Algeria
  • The project will support the development of Algeria's automotive ecosystem while creating the required local production capacity for Opel

During the German-Algerian Economic Forum in Berlin, Opel confirmed to establish a full-scale vehicle manufacturing plant in Algeria producing cars. The project follows a local-for-local approach designed to strengthen the carmaker's long-term presence in the Algerian market.

In addition, Florian Huettl, CEO of Opel Automobile GmbH, and Mohamed Fawzi El Kabir, Managing Director of AGM Holding Company SpA, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) confirming their intention to integrate a local engine manufacturing line into Opel's future industrial footprint in Algeria. Through this initiative, Opel is set to become the first automotive manufacturer to produce engines locally in Algeria

Both projects contribute to a broader economic and industrial cooperation between Germany and Algeria and will support the development of Algeria's automotive ecosystem by creating new investment opportunities for companies across the value chain.

These announcements were made during the President of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria’s visit to Berlin on July 16 and 17, an occasion chosen by the company to officially announce this new milestone in its industrial development in Algeria.

"I was delighted to meet His Excellence the President of Algeria. We discussed the importance of the market that has significant potential for Opel. The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding represents a strategic milestone as we continue to expand our international footprint beyond Europe," said Florian Huettl, CEO of Opel Automobile GmbH. "Our ambition is to make Opel's German engineering expertise and mobility solutions accessible to even more customers around the world. Today's agreement lays the foundation for long-term cooperation with our Algerian partners and reinforces our shared ambitions to create sustainable value. The project will support the development of Algeria's automotive ecosystem while creating the required local production capacity for Opel."

Opel Continues Growth Momentum: New Registrations, Market Share and Electric Vehicle Sales Increase in the First Half-Year

  • On track for global growth: Opel and Vauxhall sell around 313,000 vehicles in the first half of 2026
  • Europe gains momentum: Passenger car sales rise by 11.8 percent
  • Strong performance in Germany: Passenger car registrations are up by 15 percent
  • Successful models driving demand: Corsa remains number one, SUV family grows by more than 37 percent

Opel continued its positive growth momentum in the first half of 2026. From January to June, Opel and its British sister brand Vauxhall sold around 313,000 vehicles worldwide. The passenger car business in particular showed strong growth, with sales rising by more than 7 per cent compared with the same period last year.

Business also developed positively across Europe. In the Enlarged Europe region, Opel and Vauxhall sold around 231,000 passenger cars in the first half of the year, increasing sales by 11.8 percent compared with the same period last year. The market share rose to over 3 percent.

In particular, Opel’s latest generation of models is proving highly popular with customers. Demand for the SUV family comprising Grandland, Frontera and Mokka remains strong, with sales increasing by over 37 percent compared to the previous year globally. The new Vauxhall Frontera is also confirming its successful market launch: In the British B-SUV segment, the model has already reached second place. The all-electric variant is setting the benchmark in its class and has conquered the leading position among electric B-SUVs with a market share of around 16 percent.

Alongside the SUV range, the Opel Corsa remains one of the key success drivers for the German manufacturer. In the United Kingdom, the Vauxhall Corsa continues to lead in the B-hatch segment with a market share of more than 13 percent. In Germany, the Opel Corsa stays the clear number one among small cars. With a segment share of 17.2 percent, it further strengthened its leading position and gained an additional 1.1 percentage points compared with the previous year.

"In the first half of the year, we managed to continue growing despite a challenging market environment. With attractive vehicles, a consistent electrification approach and a strong presence in our core markets, we are continuing to gain market share. The development of our new SUV models and the ongoing success story of the Corsa are particularly pleasing. This gives us strong momentum as we enter the second half of the year," said Florian Huettl, CEO Opel and Vauxhall.

Opel delivered a particularly strong performance in its home market of Germany. With an increase of 15 percent in new passenger car registrations compared with the previous year, the German manufacturer continued its growth momentum in the first half of the year and achieved a market share of 5 percent among passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. At the same time, the success of the Astra Sports Tourer Electric underlines the strength of the current product portfolio: the model continues to hold the leading position in its segment among mainstream manufacturers.

  • Exciting programme: A look behind the scenes, Astra test drives, classic car exhibition, current models and the visionary Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo concept car
  • Ongoing success story: Site today as an important parts supplier in the group

Thousands of visitors flocked to the factory site in Kaiserslautern on Saturday in glorious sunshine. The ‘60 Years of Opel in Kaiserslautern’ anniversary celebrations offered guests a varied programme: With the chance to test drive the new Opel Astra, a classic car exhibition and displays such as the stunning high-performance Opel Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo concept car, employees, their families and friends, as well as all Opel fans, were able to get to know the plant from a completely different perspective – and take a look behind the scenes.

Prominent guests from the worlds of politics, business, sport and society also took advantage of this opportunity. Opel CEO and Managing Director Stellantis Germany, Florian Huettl, welcomed Michael Ebling, Rhineland-Palatinate’s Minister for Economic Affairs, Tourism, Energy and Climate; Christiane Benner, Chair of IG Metall; Beate Kimmel, Lord Mayor of Kaiserslautern; and other guests of honour to the anniversary celebrations.

“60 years of production in Kaiserslautern – at a time when an entire industry is undergoing transformation – is far more than just a milestone anniversary. It is a powerful display of industrial expertise, performance, and our ability to compete and adapt – even, and especially, under challenging conditions. Today, Kaiserslautern is a key hub in our global production network, which continues to develop steadily thanks to the passionate commitment of all our employees. I would like to thank everyone for this dedication,” said Florian Huettl, together with Ralph Wangemann, Managing Director Human Resources and Labour Director of Opel Automobile GmbH and Head of Human Resources at Stellantis in Germany, and Plant Manager Bilyana Stern, addressing the employees and guests.

Minister for Economic Affairs Michael Ebling offered his congratulations: “The 60th anniversary of the Opel components plant in Kaiserslautern symbolises industrial strength, innovative power and the dedication of many employees. The site is more than just a factory; it is a defining feature of the city of Kaiserslautern and a key economic driver for the region, supplying plants worldwide. The fact that so many people are joining in the anniversary celebrations demonstrates the close bond between the company, its employees and the local community. I offer my warmest congratulations on this 60th anniversary and I am convinced that the plant will continue to write the next chapters of its success story with the same reliability, flexibility and innovative spirit.”

“60 years of Opel in Kaiserslautern is, above all, about the people who have shaped and sustained this site over the decades. The fact that the plant has consistently held its ground and successfully evolved is a testament to their dedication and high level of expertise. With a skilled workforce, modern production conditions, a central location in Europe, and close ties to science and research, the Kaiserslautern site is ideally positioned for a successful future," said Beate Kimmel, Mayor of Kaiserslautern.

From classic car rally to football: Celebrations show Opel’s roots in the region

Early risers could enjoy the day’s first highlight even before the official start of the anniversary celebrations. At around 8.30 CEST, the 4th ADAC Trifels Oldtimerwanderung of the Sportfahrer Union Kaiserslautern set off from the factory grounds.

At 10 CEST, the plant then opened its gates to visitors – who were treated to a host of experiences over the following hours. During a guided tour, interested visitors learnt about the processes in the press shop and in component production.

After all, around 400 different components are manufactured in Kaiserslautern. More than 350,000 parts produced here leave the plant every day in all directions of Europe, where they are then fitted into more than 30 different Opel and Stellantis models – the top-of-the-line Opel Grandland SUV alone contains over 100 parts that are manufactured in Kaiserslautern.

Naturally, the spotlight was also on the models bearing the iconic Opel Blitz emblem – first and foremost the new Opel Astra and the new Opel Astra Sports Tourer. The latest variants of the compact class bestsellers ‘made in Germany’ were available for test drives, and numerous guests took full advantage of this occasion. Before or afterwards, they were able to take a look at the brand’s rich heritage at the classic car exhibition, which showcased rare models from the Opel Classic collection. The company’s highly dynamic vision of the future was also on display – in the form of the 588 kW (800 hp) all-electric high-performance Opel Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo concept car.

Just how closely Opel is linked to the region was also demonstrated by the special guests from the world of sport who attended the anniversary celebrations, much to the delight of many fans: Gero Scira, Chairman of the Board of 1. FC Kaiserslautern e.V., and FCK legend Florian Dick represented the football club and were happy to sign autographs. As an official ‘Herz der Pfalz’ (Heart of the Palatinate) partner, Opel is joining forces with 1. FC Kaiserslautern to mark this anniversary year with activities centred on youth sport, women’s football and e-sports, thereby sending a clear signal about the strength and sustainable development of the region.

The band ‘Roof Rabbits’ provided excellent musical entertainment throughout the afternoon. Meanwhile, even the youngest visitors were able to let off steam on the factory premises: whether it was the bouncy castle, the Bobby Car and obstacle courses, the mini-kart track, car painting, goal-shooting or various games of skill – there was plenty to keep everyone entertained.

And for the ‘grown-up’ youngsters, Opel’s vocational training team provided exciting information about Opel as an employer. As a result, the open day marking ‘60 Years of Opel in Kaiserslautern’ became a celebration for the whole family – and an event that demonstrated just how closely the manufacturer is linked to its Kaiserslautern site.

Next Generation Opel Astra to be Designed, Engineered and Made in Rüsselsheim

  • Exciting newcomer: Next-generation compact class bestseller Astra to be produced at Opel home plant in Rüsselsheim
  • At least four new models by 2030
  • grEEn-campus Rüsselsheim: New global Opel headquarters and Stellantis Germany home under construction
  • More than €1 billion to be invested overall in Germany until 2030

The next generation Opel Astra, based on the new Stellantis STLA ONE platform, will be produced at Opel’s home plant in Rüsselsheim. As communicated by Opel CEO Florian Huettl during the Stellantis Investor Day, the German manufacturer plans to introduce at least four new models by 2030. The newcomers include the next generations of the best-selling Opel Astra and Opel Corsa along with the recently announced new C-SUV in partnership with Leapmotor. Meanwhile, Opel will continue to invest in existing models in its portfolio.

“The investment into the production of the next Astra generation in Rüsselsheim underlines the focus of Stellantis on Germany and the importance of Opel,” said Stellantis Enlarged Europe COO Emanuele Cappellano. “The C-segment, which accounts for approximately 30% of total car sales in Europe, is a substantial part of Stellantis’ European strategy to strengthen the Company’s market coverage in our region, as outlined in our FaSTLAne 2030 strategic plan.”

“The allocation of the next-generation Astra to our plant in Rüsselsheim demonstrates Opel’s commitment to Germany as an industrial location. I am delighted that Rüsselsheim will remain the home of the Astra and be built in the direct vicinity of our new grEEn-campus,” said Opel CEO Florian Huettl. “This investment is a clear sign that together with our social partners we can reach agreements that benefit all stakeholders.”

“Opel and Vauxhall are important assets within Stellantis and fulfill a significant role especially within Europe,” Xavier Chéreau, Chairman of the Opel Board, said during his visit in Rüsselsheim today. “Made in Germany is a well-recognised quality label for customers worldwide and a defining strategic asset for Opel in the Stellantis group. This performance is supported by strong industrial foundations and high-quality social dialogue,” Chéreau added.

The German manufacturer is thus adding to current projects in Germany with total investments in the country to reach more than €1 billion by 2030. Opel and Stellantis Germany are already constructing a new state-of-the-art headquarter building, the grEEn-campus Rüsselsheim. The new global Opel headquarters and Stellantis Germany home will offer state-of-the-art workplaces that are designed for flexible working and collaboration. Sustainable building materials are being used to ensure a good interior atmosphere. The power supply is provided by a photovoltaic system, which is integrated into a green roof. This not only contributes to biodiversity but also ensures a pleasant microclimate and helps the cooling of the building, which is ensured in parallel via a geothermal system close to the ground.

C-segment models have been a staple of Opel’s portfolio for 90 years. The success story that started with the Kadett in 1936 has been seamlessly continued with the current generation Astra. With high-tech solutions such as the Intelli-Lux HD headlights and highly efficient powertrains including battery-electric, plug-in hybrid, hybrid and diesel the Astra – designed, engineered and made in Germany – caters for a broad range of customer needs. In total, around 25 million units of the Kadett and Astra have been sold to date.

Like the future Opel Astra, the next generation Opel Corsa will be based on the new STLA ONE Stellantis platform and take another step toward making electric mobility accessible and even more relevant. The current generation Corsa has been Germany’s best-selling small car for more than five years and continues to lead the way in 2026. In total, more than 15 million units of the iconic Corsa have been sold.

While the Opel Astra and the Corsa represent two established products in the Opel line-up, the all-new C-SUV, announced to be produced in Zaragoza as part of the extension of the partnership with Leapmotor, will complete the coverage of the C-segment alongside the Opel Frontera and the Opel Grandland. The new vehicle will serve as a blueprint for efficient global collaboration: designed and created by Opel in Rüsselsheim and developed by international teams located in Germany and China. Simultaneously, it will enable the German manufacturer to take a major strategic step forward in terms of electrification and scaling in the shortest possible time with sales of the newcomer expected to start as early as 2028.

Opel celebrates ‘60 Years of Opel in Kaiserslautern’ on June 20

  • June 3, 1966: Official opening of the Opel plant in Kaiserslautern
  • Ongoing success story: Site today as an important parts supplier in the group
  • June 20, 2026: Open day with employees, families and the public
  • Attractive anniversary programme: Live music, activities for young and old as well as guided tours in the press shop and component production
  • Tradition with a future: Exhibition of Opel vintage cars and current models including test drive opportunity plus high-performance concept car Opel Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo

On June 3, 1966, the Opel plant in Kaiserslautern was officially opened. In the years and decades that followed, the site first developed into an important powertrain plant and then to a key component plant in the group. Today, it supplies more than 20 Stellantis sites all over the world. Currently, more than 30 models from seven Stellantis brands contain components from Kaiserslautern.

The successful history and development of the plant into a state-of-the-art production site is a reason to celebrate. On June 20, 2026, Opel will open the gates to the public for the big anniversary of ‘60 years of Opel in Kaiserslautern’. At the open day, employees, their families and friends as well as all Opel fans can get to know the site from a completely different perspective and take a look behind the scenes.

“Opel and Kaiserslautern have been inextricably linked for 60 years now and we want to celebrate this anniversary! Visitors can expect hours full of surprises, various experiences and new insights. I would like to thank our employees in particular, without whom this success in Kaiserslautern would not have been possible. Come by and experience what Opel stands for in Kaiserslautern,” said plant manager Bilyana Stern.

The anniversary programme on June 20 starts in the morning at 10.00 CEST. Throughout the day, visitors will gain an insight into everyday production and tasks on site as well as into the current Opel and further Stellantis models. They can experience the processes in the press shop and component production on an interesting tour. After all, around 400 different components are manufactured in Kaiserslautern. More than 350,000 parts produced here leave the plant every day in all directions of Europe, where they are then installed in a wide variety of Opel and Stellantis models – the top-of-the-line SUV Opel Grandland alone contains over 100 parts that are manufactured in Kaiserslautern.

From classic cars to high-performance studies: Opel models in all their facets

On the open day, visitors can get to know various vehicles better and experience them for themselves during a test drive, for example – first and foremost, the new Opel Astra and the new Opel Astra Sports Tourer. The latest variants of the compact class bestseller were designed and developed at the headquarters in Rüsselsheim and are also built there. The top-of-the-range SUV Opel Grandland – produced at the Eisenach site and thus also ‘made in Germany’ – will be available to Opel fans in Kaiserslautern on the anniversary day, too.

Furthermore, the stunning Opel Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo will certainly be an eye-catcher. With a system output of 588 kW (800 hp), 800 Newton metres of torque, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.0 seconds and a top speed of 320 km/h, the concept car stands for pure electric high performance. At the same time, the Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo is the brand's first concept car to merge the digital and real worlds. Visitors can also experience this live at the factory party – by driving the electric car themselves in the Gran Turismo 7 racing simulator.

If guests prefer to reminisce about their own childhood, they can visit the vintage car exhibition. Especially for the event, Opel Classic is bringing some special treasures from the Rüsselsheim collection to Kaiserslautern. Here, too, everything is under the motto ‘pure high performance’. The exhibits include rarities such as the Grand Prix racing car from 1913 as the oldest vehicle as well as an Opel Rekord B, which the former German national football coach Sepp Herberger bought in 1966, the year the Opel plant in Kaiserslautern officially opened. The Group 5 special touring car based on the Rekord C, known to fans as the ‘Black Widow’, completes the range – as does the legendary 500 hp 2.5-litre V6 ‘Cliff’ Calibra, with which Manuel Reuter and Opel secured victory in the International Touring Car Championship ITC in 1996, as well as the prototype Astra OPC X-Treme V8 with 444 hp and gull-wing doors from 2001. Other Opel classics from private hands round off the exhibition offer.

Already in the late morning, following the official speeches, there will be an autograph session with a 1. FC Kaiserslautern legend. Who this will be remains a surprise until the day of the event. The programme is rounded off by the chance to visit the factory locomotive and the factory fire brigade’s fleet of vehicles. A variety of culinary delights and live music with the band ‘Roof Rabbits’ will further get everyone in the right mood. Exciting information about Opel as an employer is also provided by the Opel vocational training team. And if guests want to take home a souvenir of this special day, they will find a large selection at the Opel merchandising booth. The factory will close its doors again at 16.00 CEST, giving visitors plenty of opportunity to experience Opel in many facets at the Kaiserslautern site.

Opel Becomes Strategic Partner of the German Women's and Men's Handball National Teams and Title Sponsor of the Handball Bundesliga

  • Opel electrifies German handball: New sponsor of the German women's and men's national teams from July 1, 2026
  • Double deal: Opel also becomes the new title sponsor of the men's Handball Bundesliga
  • Opel commitment to professional sport: Handball contracts run for three seasons
  • Made in Germany: New Opel Astra and Opel Grandland designed, developed and built in Germany

German manufacturer Opel will become a key partner of German handball after signing two significant sponsorship agreements. Opel will become a strategic partner of the German national handball teams – both women's and men's – from July 1, 2026. The commitment runs for three years. At the same time, Opel will be the new title sponsor of the strongest handball league in the world, which will be officially named ‘Opel Handball-Bundesliga’. For three seasons, the Rüsselsheim-based manufacturer will electrify all 18 Bundesliga clubs, all games and, above all, fans across Germany and beyond. With a holistic strategy of comprehensive activation and financial support, Opel is becoming a strategic partner of German handball. The partnerships with the association and the league were brokered by the sports rights and marketing agency SPORTFIVE.

With these new partnerships, Opel is continuing its commitment to sport, which has a history spanning more than 130 years. At the same time, the brand with Blitz aims to further sharpen its sporting profile and further establish the hugely popular and growing sport of handball in the heart of society.

“Opel and handball are a perfect match. Both stand for team spirit, motivation and dynamism," said Patrick Dinger, Head of Opel Germany. “Like Opel, the handball fan base sits firmly at the centre of society and is family-oriented, down-to-earth, approachable and authentic. And: Both brands were created and grew in Germany and have always stood for 'Made in Germany'. Together with our retail partners, we are looking forward to an exciting, energetic and successful cooperation with the national teams and the league."

Mark Schober, CEO of the German Handball Federation (DHB), said: “Opel and German handball move people. The DHB, HBL, and Opel are bringing energy and values to the partnership in such a way that we can grow together in a strong handball alliance. We already have a shared history, and we are now contributing our talents for a successful future with the ‘Made in Germany’ quality seal. The partnership with Opel opens up great opportunities for German handball.”

Uwe Schwenker, HBL President and member of the board of the German Handball Federation said: “We are delighted to welcome Opel as the new naming rights partner. The Opel brand stands for performance, innovation, and high reliability, as well as outstanding technical expertise. This is an excellent fit for handball. The fact that this globally active automotive manufacturer has chosen us demonstrates the significant national and international appeal of our league.”

Frank Bohmann, Managing Director of HBL GmbH added: “On every match day, the HBL demonstrates passion, courage, innovative strength, and an unwavering commitment to performance and success. These values also apply to Opel, a manufacturer which we perceive as approachable, attainable, and innovative. We are therefore thrilled that the HBL and Opel, two iconic German brands with a strong presence, are joining forces to create innovative concepts that make handball and mobility a modern and attractive experience for fans and customers.”

Opel's strategic measures include the targeted promotion of handball and the sharpening of the brand profile. At the same time, the long-term sponsorship supports Opel's identification in the field of high-performance sports. Furthermore, Opel will become the mobility partner of German handball. Opel has always built sporty and modern vehicles and today, this claim is embodied in particular by the new high-performance GSE models. It is also emphasised by the new Astra and Astra Sports Tourer, designed, engineered and built at the Opel headquarters in Rüsselsheim, and the top-of-the-line SUV Grandland produced in Eisenach. These models stand for German engineering.

Speed, closeness and electrifying tension: Opel with a strong handball message

With the world's first all-electric rally one-make cup, Opel has been underlining its pioneering role and competence in exciting locally emissions-free motorsport that inspires customers and fans for five years now. The entry into Formula E reinforces this claim. At the same time, Opel is proving how electric sporty driving pleasure arouses pure emotions and works for the middle of society with its hot new ‘everyday sports cars’ such as the battery-electric Opel Mokka GSE and the recently unveiled Opel Corsa GSE.

Like Opel's new high-performance GSE models, fast-paced ball sports such as handball are characterised by dynamism, excitement and emotions. The strategic partnership with the German women's and men's national handball teams as well as the strongest handball league in the world is therefore a perfect fit. Handball has become the second most popular sport in Germany. In addition, handball is one of the team sports with the widest reach on German TV. In addition, thousands of fans flock to the arenas for every game. Both partners – handball and Opel – clearly embody the ‘Made in and made for Germany’ idea: both originated and grew in Germany with a clear focus on the enthusiasm of the ever-growing fan base.

Strengthening of brands: With national teams and the ‘Opel Handball-Bundesliga’

At the appearances of the national teams, the Opel wordmark and Blitz emblem will feature prominently on the jerseys of the players and other officials. The same applies to all teams of the Handball Bundesliga. In addition, the ‘Opel HBL’ composite logo will underline and emphasise the ‘Opel Handball-Bundesliga’ across all arenas and channels for the next three seasons. With banner ads, spots, advertisements and social media activities, Opel will increase awareness among viewers – at the games and appearances of the women's and men's national teams as well as in the context of the Handball Bundesliga.

What's more, Opel will develop targeted formats that actively appeal to the audience and in particular to young and digital target groups. Activities such as special media days, behind-the-scenes access, ticket raffles, further competitions and much more are planned. Of course, the retail partners always act as the central interface between Opel as a manufacturer and the handball community.

Opel has a proud tradition of being a partner of sports in general and dynamic ball sports in particular. With all the measures mentioned, Opel is now returning to handball with a bang. As early as the 1980s and 1990s, the manufacturer was the jersey sponsor of the national handball team and partner of the seven-time German champion TV Großwallstadt. With the comprehensive new commitment to the national teams and the Handball Bundesliga, Opel will continue to increase the popularity of handball and at the same time, the partners can look forward to an exciting future.

New Opel Corsa GSE: Electrifying Resurrection of the Hot Hatch

  • Power aplenty: 207 kW (281 hp) and 345 Nm of torque
  • No other production Opel accelerates faster: From 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds
  • Hot, hotter, hot hatch design: GSE-specific front and rear, 18-inch wheels, Alcon high-performance brake system, performance seats, yellow seatbelts, digital displays with performance data and much more
  • Back to the future: Opel Corsa GSE revives the tradition of sporty Corsa models

The new all-electric Opel Mokka GSE Rally competition vehicle, the Opel Mokka GSE rally car for the road and the breathtaking high-performance Opel Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo concept: 2025 marked the resurrection of the highly dynamic GSE models. In 2026, Opel will once again expand the electrifying driving pleasure for everyone – with the new Opel Corsa GSE 1. The new high-performance variant of Germany's best-selling small car takes the sporty GSi genes of the first Corsa generation into the future – pulsating, exciting and fully electric. The most powerful production Corsa of all time to date will be released this year and will celebrate its exhibition premiere at the Paris Motor Show in October. However, Opel has already removed the covers today by publishing the first official pictures of the new ‘hot hatch’.

Electrifying Opel Corsa GSE: Small car, exhilarating performance

The Opel Corsa GSE brings the sporty genes of previous Corsa generations back to life. As a GSi, the Corsa A already thrilled fans of highly dynamic small cars who wanted to experience driving pleasure and performance. With the new Opel Corsa GSE, Opel returns to the market of real ‘hot hatches’ and charges it with even more emotion, excitement, performance and all-electric driving pleasure. Because that's exactly what GSE stands for: Grand Sport Electric!

Opel has already shown that battery-electric peak performance should not only be reserved for customers in the luxury segment with the introduction of the Opel Mokka GSE last year. And in the same way, the new Opel Corsa GSE makes a clear statement with its performance figures. With 207 kW (281 hp) and 345 Newton metres, the newcomer will offer just as much electric power as the current ‘Golden Steering Wheel’ [3] title holder Mokka GSE. At the same time, however, the Corsa GSE becomes even more dynamic. With an acceleration of just 5.5 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h1, the high-performance Corsa pushes its driver into the GSE performance seat more vehemently than any other current Opel production model. It reaches its top speed at 180 km/h 1.

Opel Corsa GSE drivers can choose from three different driving modes: In ‘Sport’ mode, the electric car is tuned for pure performance and calls up full power with its special ‘racetrack’-optimised calibration; in ‘Normal’ mode it delivers 170 kW (231 hp) and a sporty set-up design, the top speed of up to 180 km/h1 is also possible, and in ‘Eco’ all settings are trimmed for the greatest possible efficiency; here the top speed is 150 km/h1. The new Opel Corsa GSE stores its energy in a 54 kWh lithium-ion battery (51 kWh usable capacity). In order to ensure long-term, reliable sporty driving pleasure, the engineers have also adapted the temperature management system for the battery to the high GSE requirements.

Sophisticated technology also contributes to the exceptional performance, handling stability and direct feedback: the Corsa GSE has front-wheel drive with Torsen-multi-plate limited-slip differential and a lowered sports chassis with specifically designed axles, stabilisers and hydraulic shock absorbers. GSE-optimised steering and pedal tuning underlines the highly dynamic driving experience. And if necessary, four-piston performance brakes ensure immediate deceleration from high speeds.

Opel Corsa GSE design with wow effect: Hot everyday athlete at first glance

The new Opel Corsa GSE confidently displays its performance. While the well-known variants of the current Corsa generation already have a dynamic design, the ‘hot hatch’ also visually emphasises its high-performance claim down to the last detail with the GSE-specific front apron immediately catching the eye. Just like the rear, it is even sharper than in the other model variants. This is ensured, among other things, by visual ‘air intakes’ as well as the black trim in the lower part of the vehicle and on the wide wheel arches, which contrasts with the contour white shimmering paintwork. The black roof and the black rear spoiler reinforce this effect.

With sporty 18-inch rims and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 215/40 R18 tyres the new Corsa GSE boasts an uncompromising stance. Under the striking rims in a three-spoke design, the Alcon brake calipers with clearly visible GSE lettering are eye-catchers. This high-performance look is also underlined by the specific GSE abbreviation on the sides of the vehicle.

Opel Corsa GSE interior: Modern interpretation of the classic Opel hot hatch style

The bold GSE design is also reflected in the interior. Here, the ‘hot hatch’ idea comes back to life – as a reminiscence of the sporty models of the Opel Corsa A generation and at the same time interpreted in a modern and forward-looking way. The driver and front passenger sit on performance seats with Alcantara applications and integrated head restraints, which evoke memories with covers in a black, grey and yellow chequered pattern. Bright yellow seatbelts form a strong contrast. The highest quality is also conveyed by the Alcantara-covered steering wheel and door inserts, the armrests with yellow stitching and the instrument panel with GSE logo against a silver-grey background. Acceleration and braking commands are given via the aluminium sports pedals. Further specific interior trim options complete the offer for the Opel Corsa GSE.

The necessary information is transmitted to the driver by the digital driver information display, which can be personalised in many ways, and the central 10-inch colour touchscreen. This contains GSE performance data, G-force display, acceleration values, battery management data and much more. The displays were also designed in the typical GSE style. The new Opel Corsa GSE is characterised by a technically high-quality and highly dynamic design down to the smallest detail, both inside and out.

In addition, the Opel Corsa GSE is equipped with numerous technology and comfort details that are as high-quality as they are practical. The repertoire includes features ranging from heated seats and steering wheel to the 180-degree reversing camera and the Keyless Entry & Start system to the bidirectional onboard charger (V2L), which not only allows the everyday athlete to be charged, but can also be used to supply external devices from e-bikes to electric grills with energy directly from the vehicle's battery.

All this shows that the new Opel Corsa GSE is not a car that simply takes fans from A to B. It is a fully electric and at the same time practical ‘hot hatch’ that touches the soul and delivers a real OMG! GSE feeling. More information about the new Opel Corsa GSE will follow shortly.
