Opel Corsa Electric Wins “Best in Class” Award 2025

Opel Corsa Electric inspires customers as much as experts. The latest proof is the "Best in Class" award 2025 from electricar in cooperation with the Institute for New Mobility. The jury of the trade magazine has chosen Opel's current best-selling small car as the winner in the "Best Electric City Vehicle" category. First, the committee, made up of personalities from business, science and the media, evaluated all the proposals received and identified five finalists per category. In the second step, the Corsa Electric emerged as the winner in the electric city vehicle category. Opel Germany brand boss Patrick Dinger accepted the award from electricar editor-in-chief Armin Grasmuck at the weekend.

"The 'Best in Class' award means that we as an automobile manufacturer have done something crucial right: developing a product with the Opel Corsa Electric that is well received by experts and customers alike. A product that is successful and points the way to future-proof, resource-saving mobility. Many thanks to the electricar jury and to all Opel partners who arouse enthusiasm for the Corsa on site every day," said Patrick Dinger at the awards ceremony at the Hockenheimring.

There are many reasons for the enduring success of the Opel Corsa Electric: It scores points with its characteristic design including the Opel Vizor brand face, space for five people, and top technologies such as the adaptive, glare-free Intelli-Lux Matrix light, which make every journey more relaxed and safer. In addition, there is locally emission-free driving fun in two versions: Customers can choose from two battery-electric power levels with Opel Corsa Electric. With the 115 kW (156 hp) drive and 51 kWh battery, up to 405 kilometers (according to WLTP 2) can be covered without stopping to charge, while with 100 kW (136 hp) and 50 kWh battery, up to 357 kilometers (WLTP 2) are possible before the journey can continue after a short "break" - for example, just under 30 minutes of charging at a 100 kW direct current fast charging station for 80 percent of the battery capacity.

All of this makes the current generation of the Opel small car a bestseller. Opel Corsa - across all drive variants - has been at the top of its segment in Germany for the past three calendar years. According to statistics from the Federal Motor Transport Authority, in the first half of 2024 Opel Corsa dominated the segment again and also ranked first among battery-electric small cars.

Sporty outfits for vans are a tradition in Rüsselsheim

It is no coincidence that the Opel Zafira-e Life as well as the Opel Vivaro and Vivaro-e have acquired a sporty outfit. Opel Vivaro Sport of the previous Vivaro generation was highly popular with customers. So the designers in Rüsselsheim came up with two new decors for the current Vivaro and Zafira-e Life that create a unique, more dynamic look.

Opel continues intensifying its activities dedicated to promoting young engineers, signing a three-year contract as main sponsor of the international educational motorsport competition Formula Student. Charlie Klein, Vice President of Vehicle Engineering, is delighted that Opel is now a sponsor of Europe’s largest student motorsport competition: “With this we make a clear statement regarding our long-term commitment to passionate and talented people. The involvement of many Opel employees in this established student racing series to date has already been a valuable investment in our own future. Now we are going a step further, and in addition to the university teams we promote, we are also sponsoring the entire series. Students participating in Formula Student face engineering and manufacturing challenges very similar to those faced by established Opel engineers. Just like for real-life engineers, it is about aligning product attributes, manufacturing methods and economic efficiency. During the season, the team members learn and grow with every new task. This makes the motorsport competition a unique opportunity for all budding engineers to experience and actively contribute to a complete model development cycle within a very short period of time.

„Competing in the Formula Student not only offers students the opportunity to apply and deepen their specialist knowledge, it also gives them the chance to gather management and social skills along with international experience. The Formula Student has become the central educational motorsport competition with its 600 teams from 52 countries. The special appeal of the Formula Student competition is that the teams are responsible for the entire process, just like automobile manufacturers. The racing car they develop must have competitive-level performance in terms of acceleration, braking and handling qualities. Reliability, durability and low-cost production are also aspects that will be judged. The competition takes place under the auspices of the Association of German Engineers VDI (Verein Deutscher Ingenieure).

We are particularly delighted that from this season, we will welcome two new teams from the TU Kaiserslautern (University of Kaiserslautern) and the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (Mittelhessen University of Applied Sciences) to our ranks. Last year, the ninth season of Formula Student brought over 3,600 students in 115 teams from 24 countries to the Hockenheimring. There they were cheered on by more than 5,000 spectators – a record year for the student racing series competition that features the two categories combustion engines and electric propulsion. This year, Formula Student again takes place in Hockenheim from July 30 – August 2. Support of Formula Student also has a long tradition at Opel’s parent company General Motors. In addition to General Motors’ overall engagement within the Formula SAE, particularly its collaboration with the home team from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor is of special note. As the teams supported by GM and Opel maintain close contact and assist one another, the Opel Blitz shines next to the GM logo on the hoods of many US racing cars.
