!NEW! 2018 Buick Regal GS Makes World Debut

Premium sport sedan offers all-new 310 horsepower V6, nine-speed transmission and intelligent AWD with active twin clutch

2018 Buick Regal GS

Where spirited driving meets attainable luxury and sleek, sporty design meets modern usefulness, you’ll find the 2018 Buick Regal GS – a car for commutes that are anything but common. As the brand’s most dramatic expression of design and dynamics, this all-new model balances these key characteristics to provide customers excellent driving performance every day and in every season.

The 2018 Regal GS advances the nameplate with 51 more horsepower than the model it replaces, more refined transmission and AWD technology, all-new, heated/cooled and massaging performance seats and the added functionality and style of a five-door sportback design. Starting at $39,990 with destination charges, the Regal GS offers luxury features at a price more attainable than competitors from Audi and BMW.

“This is a sport sedan designed for everyday driving, but one that makes every drive special,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president, Global Buick and GMC. “The new Regal GS is in the sweet spot of the market: more refined and luxurious than the mainstream, more value for the price with style and premium features on par with higher-end competitors, and with standard features like AWD with active twin clutch and a rear sportback design that will surprise customers with its usefulness.”

 Regal GS Highlights:

  • New 3.6L V6 with 310 horsepower and 282 lb-ft of torque featuring direct injection, cylinder deactivation and stop/start technology

  • Available head-up display

Buick’s most advanced new propulsion components come standard on the new Regal GS. With 310 horsepower, its refined 3.6 liter V6 provides more power than an Acura TLX A-Spec or a Lexus IS350 F-Sport but offers seamless auto stop/start technology and can cruise on four cylinders. The V6 engine is complemented by a sport-tuned dual exhaust system.

Regal GS’ intelligent AWD system with an active twin clutch can precisely transfer torque between the rear wheels for more refined and efficient performance, and the GS receives one of the first applications of the nine-speed automatic transmission in the Buick lineup that’s mated to AWD. This advanced new transmission will soon be offered across five different Buick models.

Every Regal GS also features Buick’s Interactive Drive Control, allowing the driver to tailor the car’s dynamics based on different drive experiences through a standard setting or Sport and GS modes selected via the center console. Interactive Drive Control utilizes Buick’s second-generation Continuous Damping Control (CDC), which is able to adjust suspension damping up to 500 times per second.
Versus a standard 2018 Regal Sportback, the GS also has standard Brembo brakes for more confident stopping power.

“With the all-new 2018 Regal GS, we set out to make a driver-focused, engaging and entertaining sport sedan without sacrificing the smooth ride and refined character expected of any modern Buick,” said Martin Hayes, chief engineer for the Buick Regal GS. “Our new V6 and nine-speed transmission, intelligent AWD and CDC all work to deliver excellent driving performance.”

Outside, Buick’s signature sculptural beauty presents the car’s sporting nature in an understated way with aggressive front and rear fascias, standard 19-inch wheels, a rear decklid spoiler and GS badging front and rear. Full LED headlamps are an option.

Inside, the Regal features unique perforated GS-specific performance seats with integrated headrests and adjustable lumbar and thigh support bolsters. The seats are heated and ventilated and come standard with a massage function. The interior also features a standard heated flat-bottom sport steering wheel and GS-specific pedals and sill plates.

The 2018 Regal GS offers a cohesive and connected infotainment experience with an 8-inch diagonal touchscreen and 8-inch diagonal reconfigurable instrument cluster as standard equipment. A full-color head-up display is available with an optional Driver Confidence II package that also includes several safety features including Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert and Adaptive Cruise Control with Forward Automatic Braking.

The Regal GS is a highest performance expression of the 2018 Buick Regal GS Sportback. Other Regal Sportback models will offer a standard 2.0T engine and sleek new design at a starting price -- $25,915 – that’s approximately $2,000 lower than the 2017 Regal.

The first-ever Regal TourX, which combines car-like handling and SUV capability, launches with limited availability of select higher trim levels later this year. TourX models with a starting price of $29,995 are expected to be available at dealers in February 2018.

“This is a vehicle intended for Buick customers who demand the best and the latest our brand has to offer,” said Aldred.

Elegant design and functionality define the all-new Buick Enclave

The Enclave’s new design architecture enables a balanced, athletic appearance. New proportions give it a sleeker look with aerodynamic benefits for efficiency. The roofline is lower, the windshield is sharper and the wheelbase is extended, giving the vehicle a more dramatic stance. Its sculpted body creates a windswept appearance. Its interior is inviting and harmonious.

Extensive use of LEDs is integrated into Buick’s first application of Evonik Acrylite technology and bi-functional LED projector headlamps and LED tail lamps. The technology’s compound curvature application creates a smooth, uniform and recognizable appearance that will make the Enclave stand out on the road. IntelliBeam headlamps also allow drivers to experience better road illumination and improved visibility without having to manually switch the high beams on and off.

A significantly enhanced suite of available advanced safety technologies is engineered to help drivers monitor their surroundings and feel confident when behind the wheel. Standard safety equipment on all 2018 Enclaves includes a rear vision camera, rear park assist and seven air bags, including a front center side airbag. Among the available crash-avoidance technologies are rear cross traffic alert, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, safety alert seat and surround vision.

Having leveraged the first-generation Enclave as a benchmark for quietness, the 2018 Enclave cabin is engineered to further minimize unwanted interior noise through its honed exterior shapes, sealing and sound-deadening acoustics and strategic use of materials throughout. QuietTuning and active noise cancellation enhancements help to reduce, block and absorb noise, keeping it from entering the cabin. A 10-speaker Bose Premium sound system with new components, new tuning and a redesigned bass enclosure further enhances the sound experience.

Another lifestyle-enhancing feature in the Enclave interior is an air ionizer that eliminates odors and provides higher air quality. It works by producing negatively charged particles that attract air-borne contaminants and break down their structure, cleaning the cabin air. The ionizer can help address external and internal odors and reduce bacteria, viruses, dust, debris and pollen, while also helping improve driver alertness. It requires no maintenance or filter replacement.

Enclave’s interior has flexible cargo solutions for large and small items. The vehicle has 10 percent more cubic feet of overall interior space when including the hidden underfloor storage, and 23.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row. Other space enhancements include a 10-inch-deep dry underfloor storage with 3.1 cubic feet of space.

Second- and third-row seating fold flat to create a wide, nearly-flat load floor. A power-folding third row makes reconfiguring more convenient, while second-row SmartSlide Seats provide easy access to the third row. On the passenger side, the SmartSlide seat provides pitch slide functionality to allow access even with an empty forward-facing child seat installed (using the LATCH system).

Additional standard equipment on every 2018 Enclave includes keyless entry and push-button start, a hands-free power-programmable liftgate with a Buick tri-shield logo illuminating the ground below the hidden sensor, tri-zone automatic climate control, universal home remote and more.

Every Enclave also comes equipped with an OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot (AT&T data plan purchase required after limited data trial period) and five years of the OnStar Basic Plan [1] at no additional cost. Among other benefits like an industry-leading myBuick app, this connectivity plan features OnStar Smart Driver, an opt-in service designed to help Buick owners maximize their vehicle’s overall performance and become better drivers.

A frameless 8-inch diagonal infotainment system with Teen Driver, Rear Seat Reminder [2], and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility is standard. Every Enclave features Rear Seat Reminder2, an industry-first feature designed to remind drivers to check the back seat as they exit their vehicles under certain circumstances.

The Buick Enclave will continue to be manufactured in Lansing, Michigan, and goes on sale in the fall of 2017. Pricing and other details will be announced later this year.

Buick is positioned to carry its momentum through 2017 and beyond. By the end of the decade, the brand will launch at least a dozen new or updated models globally, not including models from the Avenir luxury sub-brand. The 2018 Enclave is the seventh new Buick model introduced in less than two years.

[1] OnStar Basic Plan is available for five years from the delivery date of eligible 2015 model year and newer vehicles and is transferable. Basic Plan does not include Emergency, Security or Navigation services; these and other services require a paid plan. Visit OnStar.com for details.

!NEW! All-New Buick LaCrosse Upgrades Computing Power

New electronic control system lays foundation for intelligent power, handling, safety and connectivity

All-New Buick LaCrosse
At a time when the world’s attention is focused on a computer program capable of defeating a professional board game player, the automotive industry is also embracing a new era of in-vehicle electronic and software advances.

Vehicle safety, comfort, fuel efficiency and connectivity technologies are influenced at least in part by electronic control modules within the vehicle. A car’s electronic system manages a constant influx of data for many of its most important components – from an engine’s fuel injection system and the car’s windshield wiper motor, to the operation of advanced active safety features like Pedestrian Detection.

All-New Buick LaCrosse - Pedestrian Detection
The all-new Buick LaCrosse, pioneers advances for the brand in connectivity and safety. Its all-new, more robust electronic control system – an integral part of these features – includes eight in-car data Controller Area Network buses (CAN bus) that act similarly to an eight-core brain, enabling the interaction of the vehicle’s electronic systems, microcontrollers, sensors and software to perform handling, safety and connectivity operations seamlessly for the owner.

When a vehicle is in motion, a vast amount of data is being rapidly transmitted and calculated to generate instructions that are often unnoticed by the driver, such as data from the transmission as it shifts gears or even temperature sensors to alter in-cabin comfort. That is why an efficient and capable electronic control system is needed for today's increasingly smarter vehicles.

In an automobile, the electronic control layout works similarly to the central nervous system in a human being. At its core, in-car data buses form a Local Area Network (LAN) to connect the nodes and sensors of the different Electronic Control Units (ECUs). Data buses allow vehicles to detect their surrounding environment and control corresponding functions such as slippery road conditions for traction control.

While data buses serve as “messengers,” ECUs play the role of an in-vehicle computer. There are 31 ECUs distributed in the all-new Buick LaCrosse, while its predecessor utilized only 17 ECUs. This optimizes calculating efficiency. In order to facilitate the handling of large quantities of data, a specific data bus is arranged to connect ECUs, each of which can process data independently.

All-New Buick LaCrosse Offers Smart Features

The current Buick LaCrosse has been the segment leader in China in the introduction of intelligent safety features that include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Change Alert, Lane Departure Warning and Collision Imminent Braking.

The all-new Buick LaCrosse introduces additional safety functions such as Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keep Assist, Following Distance Indicator, High Beam Alert and Advance Park Assist.

The all-new Buick LaCrosse has upgraded the hardware and software of its intelligent safety systems. It features a Megapixel Front Camera, all-new long-distance radars and sensors, and added External Object Calculation Modules (EOCM). The previous distributed intelligent safety mechanism has now become an integrated one, ensuring a faster and more precise decision-making process.

For example, if the all-new Pedestrian Detection system identifies a pedestrian directly ahead and a collision is imminent, the system alerts the driver and, if necessary, automatically applies the brakes to help reduce the collision’s severity or avoid the collision.

The second-generation Continuous Damping Control (CDC) system scans road conditions at a frequency of 100 times per second, with real-time damping adaptations made accordingly to guarantee optimized comfort and handling.

New Landscape: Intelligent and Connected

Thanks to its IntelliLink infotainment system, the all-new Buick LaCrosse has a fully upgraded system that is both intelligent and connected. It is not only compatible with Apple CarPlay and Baidu CarLife, but also benefits from OnStar with 4G LTE. Its built-in Wi-Fi hotspot allows the connection of as many as seven devices simultaneously. IntelliLink ensures reliable networking services with a convenient and user-friendly operating system.
