Dutch debut: Peter Christian Küspert, Vice President Sales & Aftersales Opel Group, presented the new ADAM ROCKS S during Opel’s press conference at the AutoRAI in Amsterdam.

Show time for the Opel ADAM ROCKS S at the International Amsterdam Motor Show (AutoRAI, public days from April 17 to 26): Opel’s sporty mini-crossover made its world premiere at the show’s opening today. The Rüsselsheim automaker also presented a host of other national premieres, led by the new mobility and service assistant Opel OnStar as well as the new Opel KARL and Corsa OPC models.

“All these new and innovative products once again show that Opel plays a leading role in trendsetting technologies and attractive models at affordable prices,” said Peter Christian Küspert, Vice President Sales and Aftersales of the Opel Group, during the press conference at the Opel stand (Hall 1, stand 01.200). “We want to reinforce Opel as an emotional, approachable and German brand – the ADAM ROCKS S is the best example of an emotional car that embodies state-of-the-art technological innovations and German engineering quality.”

At 3.75 meters long with a masculine appearance and 110 kW/150 hp ECOTEC engine, the new ADAM ROCKS S is particularly appealing to customers who want to combine sporty driving and adventure with chic design in an off-road look. The engine delivers 220 Nm torque and is mated to a short ratio six-speed gearbox. The mini-crossover covers the sprint to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds, and needs just 7.9 seconds to accelerate from 80 to 120 km/h. Top speed is 210 km/h. Driving fun is ensured by the 15 mm lower performance sports chassis, the direct, sporty steering and the high-performance braking system including ESP that can be deactivated. Yet Opel’s sporty new small car makes do with a mere 5.9 liters fuel per 100 km and emits just 139 g/km CO2 in the combined cycle.

Irresistible: 150 hp, 220 Nm of torque and a performance chassis.

Opel also introduced another top athlete in Amsterdam. The new Corsa OPC impresses with its powerful turbocharged engine that pumps out 152 kW/207 hp and develops up to 280 Nm torque. The sporty top-of-the-line Corsa accelerates to 100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 230 km/h (7.5 l/100 km and 174 g/km CO2 in the combined cycle).

Full of character – Opel KARL

“A car full of character that appeals to both heart and mind – ideal for price-conscious customers who want to combine everyday suitability with comfort and modern technologies.” This is how Peter Christian Küspert introduced the new Opel KARL at its premiere in Amsterdam. Smart shoppers can hardly get more car for their money: City mode for the power steering, heated steering wheel and assistance systems such as Park Assist, Cruise Control with speed limiter, cornering light function and Lane Departure Warning make Opel technologies from upper vehicle classes affordable for everyone in the small car segment. “Or as we say, high-tech for everyone!” summarized Küspert, describing the new model’s benefits in a nutshell. “With KARL, ADAM and Corsa, we now have the strongest small car offer in our history and the youngest portfolio on the market.”

The Opel Vice President of Sales and Aftersales also introduced the new mobility and service assistant Opel OnStar to the Dutch public. “Opel OnStar will turn your car into a powerful, mobile WiFi hotspot. But not only that: Opel OnStar is more than entertainment. It is always there in an emergency and can save lives,” said Küspert. With its market launch in Europe from August, Opel takes the next step forward in vehicle connectivity and reinforces its leadership position in groundbreaking technology solutions.

These are steps that customers appreciate. Peter Christian Küspert: “We are now the fourth-largest automobile manufacturer for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in the Netherlands. We were able to increase our market share here in the passenger car segment to 5.77 percent and in the commercial vehicle segment to 7.6 percent. These numbers correspond to Opel’s positive performance in all of Europe last year as well as the first quarter of 2015.”

Powerful, fast, top performance for a great price. The new Opel Corsa OPC makes its world premiere in Geneva with 152 kW/207 hp under its hood and extensive OPC equipment for just 24,395 euros (RRP incl. VAT in Germany; combined cycle fuel consumption 7.5 l/100 km / CO2 emissions 174 g/km). This makes the fastest member of the new Corsa generation even less expensive than its predecessor while it delivers 11 kW/15 hp higher output. Its maximum torque increases by up to 50 Nm to an uncompromising 280 Nm with overboost. The youngest OPC model will be available for order in the upcoming days and will be at dealerships in spring.

Performance, speed and torque galore: Newest Corsa OPC generation

The Corsa OPC is the athlete of the small car family. It makes this clear with its characteristic design featuring large air intakes, a bold, distinctive hood, prominent rear spoiler and twin-pipe Remus exhaust system. The tailpipes add further acoustic emphasis to the 1.6-liter turbo gasoline engine’s performance potential. Compared to its predecessor, it boasts 15 hp higher output and up to 50 Nm higher torque, enabling impressive sprints. The new Corsa OPC accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds according to latest data – almost a half-second faster than the Corsa OPC from the previous generation. When overtaking in fifth gear, the new edition needs three-tenths of a second less, now just 6.4 seconds from 80 to 120 km/h. Maximum speed is also boosted by 5 km/h and now reaches up to 230 km/h. These figures are comparable to the existing OPC Nürburgring Edition – but for an amazing 4,000 euros less. The new Corsa OPC brings its performance to the road safely and solidly thanks to innovative Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) technology. Experienced drivers can even switch off the ESP completely when pushing the vehicle to its limits. Like all Opel OPC models, the new Corsa also successfully completed an extensive testing program on the most challenging race track in the world – the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

Sporty and stylish New Opel Corsa OPC - Interior with Recaro performance seats

The new Opel Corsa OPC interior also creates a sporty ambience. Recaro performance seats, which offer passengers optimum side support even in the most demanding maze of corners, are prominent. The leather steering wheel, flattened at the bottom, the OPC gear knob for the short ratio six-speed gearbox and the sports pedals along with the instruments in characteristic OPC design complete the interior. In addition, even these sporty drivers do not have to forego outstanding connectivity. Opel’s IntelliLink infotainment system is available as an option and brings the world of smartphones, both Apple iOS and Android, on board the Corsa OPC.

Drivers looking for even more racing flair can order the OPC Performance Package for 3,150 euros. Its highlight is a mechanical multi-disc differential lock made by Drexler that ensures even better traction in the already exemplary front-wheel drive car.

No matter whether the Green Hell or the urban jungle – the new Opel Corsa OPC is at home on all terrains. No matter whether on the Nürburgring or during rush hour – the fastest member of the new generation Corsa combines extreme uncompromising athleticism with outstanding suitability for everyday use. The roughly four-meter long powerhouse impresses with its high-torque, 207 hp, 1.6 liter turbocharged engine, agile handling and not least with its sporty look. However, neither the spacious interior, well known from the Corsa, nor the good comfort have suffered. The Corsa OPC is the athlete of the small car family. It will celebrate its world premiere at the next Geneva Motor Show (March 5-15, 2015).

OPC design: Powerful appearance

Sticking to the OPC tradition the top-of-the-range Corsa can immediately be identified as a true member of the Opel Performance Center. Apart from the new, OPC-exclusive paint in Flash Blue the Corsa also boasts a new front-end design with new large air intakes. In particular, the aluminum-framed openings below the headlights create a visual link to the Corsa’s bigger sports brother, the Astra OPC. A small scoop is located in front of the distinctive hood giving the Corsa OPC an additional optical dash of athleticism. The dynamically modelled flanks with bold sill side trims create the appropriate connection to the rear end.

Opel Corsa OPC’s uncompromising sporty design is continued when viewed from the rear. The spoiler attached to the trunk lid is available in two different varieties – a subtle rear spoiler that comes as standard and a much more flamboyant version that creates even more downforce at the rear axle. The twin-pipe Remus exhaust with a diffusor around the tailpipes adds further athletic touches both optically and acoustically which becomes apparent once the accelerator is pressed.

1.6 Turbo ECOTEC: 207 hp and up to 280 Nm

Under the hood, the 152 kW/207 hp turbocharged gasoline engine of the new generation Corsa OPC is only waiting to be kicked into action. The 1.6-liter OPC unit now offers maximum torque of 245 Nm between 1,900 and 5,800 rpm – an additional 35 Nm are available when required with the overboost functionality. Much attention has been paid to fast torque build-up and extending the torque plateau compared to the previous generation model (max torque was only reached at 2,250 rpm in the exclusive Nürburgring Edition), so that the car is much more responsive at low engine speeds. The OPC power is transferred to the front wheels via a six-speed transmission with short and sharp shifting travels. Thus, the new Corsa OPC races to 100 km/h from a standing start in a mere 6.8 seconds. A maximum speed of 230 km/h is possible. Despite its sporting credentials, fuel consumption is a respectable 7.5 liters per 100 kilometers for the combined cycle (174 g/km CO2).  

FSD sports chassis: Always the right frequency

In order to deliver the power to the road in the best possible manner the Opel engineers teamed up with the specialists from Koni to develop a chassis that can boast innovative damping. The new Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) technology enables the damping forces to adapt to the frequency of the car, thus enabling the balancing act between uncompromising athleticism and an adequate level of comfort. The other chassis component were also calibrated accordingly. The Corsa OPC is 10 millimeters closer to the road surface than its tame standard Corsa siblings. A latest generation electronic control systems allows for various modes to be selected for the electronic stability program (ESP) and the traction control (TC). In ‘Competition Mode’ for example traction control is inactive while the ESP gives a Corsa OPC a slightly longer leash. Experienced drivers can even switch off the ESP completely when pushing the vehicle to its limits on racetracks.

Elsewhere, the steering has also been optimized. It reacts even more direct and precise and gives OPC drivers much better feedback. 215/45 R17 Michelin performance tires as standard ensure perfect grip. An OPC-optimized braking system with 308-millimeter braking discs on the front axle can be seen.

Performance Package: Pure racing flair for road use

Drivers looking for even more racing flair can turn to the Corsa OPC Performance Package. It includes a mechanical multi-disc differential lock made by Drexler, 18-inch wheels with powerful grip Michelin tires and an even more athletic chassis set-up. Furthermore, the Performance Package comprises a Brembo high performance braking system with 330-millimimeter braking discs on the front axle providing optimal deceleration.
