New generation 1.6 SIDI Turbo with 147 kW/200 hp tops Zafira Tourer in market range
Unbeatable maximum torque of 300 Nm, 20 % above closest competitor
New generation six-speed manual transmission with enhanced shifting comfort
Fourth powertrain introduced into Opel’s Master of Flexibility in 2013
Opel Zafira Tourer 1.6 SIDI Turbo with 147 kW/200 hp
With 147 kW/200 hp, the new Opel Zafira Tourer 1.6 SIDI Turbo is the most powerful compact monocab in the market place. Its impressive power is delivered by the high performance version of Opel’s new generation midsize, direct injection gasoline engine. Not only pure power, but also its maximum torque make the new Zafira Tourer 1.6 SIDI Turbo stand out: with 300 Nm (through overboost) achieved from 1,700 to 4,700 rpm, it offers 20 per cent more torque than its closest competitor in the compact monocab segment. The impressive low-end torque results in strong acceleration and exemplary elasticity. Smooth running characteristics and very low-level noise and vibration are a real forte of Opel’s new generation high quality engine. The top-level performance version of the 1.6 SIDI Turbo engine is the fourth new powertrain to be introduced in the Zafira Tourer within twelve months, and it completes Opel Flexibility Master’s portfolio as the most powerful member of the family.
Impressive Power: With 147 kW/200 hp and 300 Nm maximum torque (through overboost), the new Opel Zafira Tourer 1.6 SIDI Turbo is the most powerful compact monocab in the market place.
The high-performance 1.6 SIDI Turbo comes with a new six-speed manual transmission that offers smooth and fast shifting with minimal effort expenditure. The combination of its new high performance engine and this softer, sharper transmission further raises the appeal of Opel’s compact premium lounge on wheels. Highly sophisticated adaptive FlexRide chassis technology is also offered in the 147 kW/200 hp Zafira Tourer, as well as state-of-the-art driver assistance systems such as the Opel Eye front camera, the Side Blind Spot Alert (SBSA) and the rear view camera. In addition, the panorama windscreen and sunroof make driving and travelling in the Zafira Tourer an extraordinarily enjoyable experience.

“Our latest and top addition to the Zafira Tourer family, the 1.6 SIDI Turbo with 147 kW/200 hp and 300 Nm of maximum torque sets new standards in the segment of the compact monocabs. It brings out a winning combination of high-level performance and ultimate comfort defined by comprehensive flexibility,” says Opel CEO Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann.
Prices of the new Opel Zafira Tourer 1.6 SIDI Turbo with 147 kW/200 hp are set to be highly competitive and will be published once the order books are opened at the beginning of November.
Peak performer, with impressively smooth pulling power
The new 147 kW/200 hp 1.6 SIDI Turbo that now tops Opel Zafira Tourer engine portfolio outruns competitors with impressive characteristics. It beats its closest competitor by nine per cent in power and 20 per cent in maximum torque delivery, totaling an additional 60 Nm. With this powerhouse, the Zafira Tourer accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 8.9 seconds and features solid elasticity with acceleration from 80-120 km/h in 5th gear in just 8.3 seconds. It reaches a top speed of 225 km/h and consumes in combined cycle 7.0 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (according to Regulation [EC] No 715/2007) emitting 164 g/km CO2.
The heart of the SIDI turbo is a new engine block that can withstand a maximum combustion pressure of up to 130 bar in the cylinder. The block is made of grey cast iron with an aluminum baseplate. In contrast to the 125 kW/170 hp version, a different type of piston was developed for the 147 kW/200 hp model and the compression ratio was reduced from 10.5 to 9.5:1. Opel engineers also wanted to combine the high power output with pleasant running smoothness for exceptional comfort. To this end, they made numerous optimizations to the induction and exhaust systems. As a result, driver and passengers will appreciate quiet and smooth idling, with a pleasant sound quality even at high road speeds, regardless of the engine speed and load.
New Opel ECOTEC 1.6 SIDI Performance Turbo engine with 147 kW/200 hp
The new 1.6 SIDI Turbo with 147 kW/200 hp is part of Opel’s impressive model and powertrain offensive and is the most powerful engine of the Zafira Tourer range. In 2013 alone, Opel extended the Zafira Tourer’s offering with the 2.0 BiTurbo CDTI top-of-the-range diesel which reaches143 kW/195 hp and 400 Nm. And then with the new generation 1.6 CDTI whisper-diesel attaining 100 kW/136 hp and 320 Nm, but with a consumption of only 4.1 l/100 km and 109 g/km CO2, and with the 125 kW/170 hp version of the 1.6 SIDI Turbo. In addition to the wide gasoline and diesel portfolio, the Zafira Tourer offers alternative propulsion options with the 1.4 LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) 103 kW/140 hp and the 1.6 CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) 110 kW/150 hp models.
Opel’s new high-performance family car’s power becomes optically visible through the dual exhaust pipes located to the right and left, with red ‘turbo’ lettering added as a discreet understatement for those with a keen eye for detail. Additionally, Opel’s FlexRide adaptive damping system is offered, wheel sizes range from 17 to 19 inch.
Premium ‘Lounge on wheels’ comfort
The award-winning Opel Zafira Tourer combines premium class ambience inside the cabin with cutting-edge technologies enhancing safety and comfort, some of which are unique in the segment. In addition to the mechatronic FlexRide chassis system, technical highlights include driver assistance systems such as a Side Blind Spot Alert, the second-generation Opel Eye front camera with Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW), the AFL+Adaptive Forward Lighting system with Intelligent Light Ranging (ILR), and Advanced Park Assist (APA) and a rear-view camera. In addition, a panoramic windshield combined with a large panoramic sunroof floods the cabin with natural light.
Extra flexibility inside the Opel Zafira Tourer is provided by the new generation Flex7 system, including the unique Lounge Seating functions which give rear passengers an unprecedented amount of space. Each of the three seats in the second row can be independently folded flat, but also a special mechanism enables the back of the middle seat to be folded down so that it offers a comfortable armrest to the passengers in the two outer seats. The longitudinal movement of the remaining two seats not only adds extra leg room, but by sliding to the center of the cabin, more shoulder room is created – a unique innovation in the segment.
