Opel with Three World Premieres at IAA Mobility 2023 in Munich

  • Innovative, emotional, pioneering: Outlook on the future of brand and design
  • Opel goes electric: First appearance for brand’s new battery-electric bestseller
  • Right in middle: Opel to present brand and models at summit and in city

IAA Mobility is one of largest mobility events in world and Opel is right in middle of it this year! From September 5 to 10, 2023, brand with the Blitz will be showing in Munich what electrified and, above all, electrifying mobility means. In middle of city, Opel is presenting three world premieres. Emotional, electric and therefore locally emissions-free, they provide a meaningful outlook on future of brand and exciting design of  next generation of vehicles.

Opel CEO Florian Huettl: “Majority of our models are already electrified today. At the same time, with our plug-in hybrid models from new GSe sub-brand, we are demonstrating how highly dynamic driving fun can be combined with responsibility. All this is just the beginning on our way to becoming a fully electric brand in Europe from 2028. At IAA Mobility in Munich, we will be showing how Opel is making electromobility tangible for everyone and even more suitable for everyday use – and what the future of the brand will look like.”

Opel will make it easy for visitors to find out. First, tradition-rich brand will present itself at summit of  Munich trade fair. In addition, all interested parties and onlookers can also take a close look at the Opel world premieres in the heart of Munich city centre on Ludwigstrasse, very close to Odeonsplatz. Opel Astra Sports Tourer Electric will make its public debut. For the first time in its decade-long success story,  compact-class bestseller is driving fully electric, adding a particularly attractive variant to the broad, highly efficient Opel Astra powertrain portfolio. Germany's most popular small car of past two years is also at start as new Opel Corsa Electric – now even more efficient, with more power and more range than before.

Third Opel world premiere at IAA Mobility remains a surprise for now. Just this much: Opel will make an inspiring, expressive statement for future! More information to come...

10. Paul Pietsch Classic: Sporty Opel icons and the top-of-the-range Opel Astra GSe inspire spectators

  • Fantastic: "Sporty Opel icons from three decades" on the road through the picturesque Black Forest
  • “Only flying is nicer”: Opel Head of Communications Harald Hamprecht and auto motor und sport chief reporter Jörn Thomas on the road in the Opel GT
  • Tradition meets innovation: Field of participants is led by the new Opel Astra GSe

Picturesque Black Forest villages, scenic landscapes and in the midst of them classic cars that are second to none: Last week the 10th Paul Pietsch Classic came to an end in the most beautiful spring weather. Participants drove into the market square in Offenburg in Baden with their shiny vintage cars to great applause. In line with the anniversary rally, Opel was there with “sporting icons from three decades”. Opel GT, Commodore GS/E, Kadett GT/E and Corsa GSi had already attracted the attention of fans on the winding routes through the Black Forest - just like the Opel Astra GSe (fuel consumption according to WLTP 1 :1.2-1, 1l/100km, CO2-Emission 26-25 g/km; each combined). The new top model of the Astra series led the field on both days and showed how tradition and modern, locally emission-free driving fun can be optimally combined.

"Paul Pietsch Classic is one of the most beautiful vintage car rallies in Germany and is always an experience," enthuses Opel Head of Communications Harald Hamprecht, who drove in a 1969 Opel GT together with auto motor und sport chief reporter Jörn Thomas. “The routes through the picturesque valleys and over the Black Forest heights are more fun with every kilometer. It is a pleasure to be able to honor the passionate racing driver and car enthusiast Paul Pietsch. At Opel, we also live the love of the automobile every day - and continue it with exciting, modern and electrified models such as our new Astra GSe."

Dream vehicles on dream routes: Around 120 teams in Offenburg at the start

With varied routes to the Kaiserstuhl and – on day 2 – past Freudenstadt and through the Kinzig Valley, the regularity rally was once again in the tradition of its namesake. Born in Freiburg, Paul Pietsch was not only one of the founders of Motor Presse Stuttgart, but also a Grand Prix driver. As befitting, the Hamprecht/Thomas team circled an Opel GT over the winding climbs and descents. The yellow and black GT from 1969, which can reach speeds of up to 185 km/h, with its unusual "Coke Bottle" design, still lives up to the slogan "Only flying is nicer" even today.

Jörg Mannsperger, Managing Director of Motor Presse Stuttgart, and Opel Classic Manager Leif Rohwedder were in no way inferior. The duo covered the stages through the high and northern Black Forest in style in an Opel Commodore GS/E Coupé "Rallye Monte Carlo 1973". The specimen is a homage to rally ace Walter Röhrl, who made his debut 50 years ago with his co-driver Jochen Berger with such a sports coupé in the Irmscher team at the Monte Carlo Rally. The field of "sporty Opel icons" was completed this weekend by an 85 kW/115 hp Opel Kadett GT/E of the 1000 series and a top speed of up to 190 km/h, as well as a Corsa GSi from 1989. The sporty top model of the first Corsa generation was made as a manoeuvrable, lively small car to drift through the tight corners.

New Opel Astra GSe also showed its potential. With a system output of 165 kW/225 hp and a maximum torque of a powerful 360 Newton meters, the "Grand Sport electric" sets standards. With sharp, GSe-typical design highlights and innovative technology such as a special chassis lowered by 10 millimeters including KONI-FSD suspension technology (Frequency Selective Damping), it conveys precise, pure driving pleasure - and in a responsible manner. Thanks to the plug-in hybrid drive with a 12.4 kWh lithium-ion battery, Astra GSe drivers can cover up to 64 kilometers with zero local emissions according to WLTP 2 (EAER City according to WLTP 2 : 69‑73 km).

[1] The values were determined using the more realistic test procedure WLTP (Worldwide harmonized Light vehicles Test Procedure), which replaces the test procedure with reference to the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle). The WLTP values are also the basis for calculating vehicle-related taxes. A vehicle's consumption, CO 2 emissions and range not only depend on the efficient use of energy by the vehicle, but are also influenced by driving behavior and other non-technical factors. Further information on the official fuel consumption and the official specific CO 2 emissions of new passenger cars can be found in the "Guide to fuel consumption, the CO 2-Emissions and power consumption of new passenger cars” which is available free of charge at www.dat.de. The information on consumption and emissions does not refer to an individual vehicle and is not part of the offer, but is intended solely for purposes of comparison between the various vehicle types.

[2] The specified range was determined using the WLTP test procedure (Regulation (EG) No. 715/2007 and VO (EU) No. 2017/1151). The actual range may vary under everyday conditions and depends on various factors, in particular personal driving style, road conditions, outside temperature, use of heating and air conditioning and thermal preconditioning.

Small Car Bestseller: Opel Unveils New Corsa

  • Small and full of character: With Opel Vizor brand face and new rear-end design
  • Digital and intuitive: Cockpit based on Snapdragon® Cockpit Platforms from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.1, new infotainment with up to 10-inch large colour touchscreen
  • Even more precise: New IntelliLux LED Matrix light
  • Opel Corsa Electric: New electric motor with 115 kW/156 hp and range of up to 402 kilometres (WLTP 2)
  • Hybrid for all: New Corsa is first Opel with 48-volt hybrid system

New Opel Corsa is coming – and it's coming this year still. Even bolder, even more emotional, even more intuitive to operate and with completely new electric and hybrid drives, newcomer will take Opel’s traditional strong offer in small car segment to next level.

New Opel Corsa delights with its new design including characteristic Opel Vizor brand face at front and Opel lettering placed confidently in middle of rear. State-of-art technologies make driving more relaxed. As an option, new Opel Corsa offers a fully digital cockpit based on Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms from Qualcomm Technologies 1 with new, intuitive infotainment and an up to 10-inch colour touchscreen. Glare-free IntelliLux LED Matrix light, which Opel Corsa brought to small car segment in 2019, is also even better and more precise – now with 14 LED elements. And the latest interpretation of small car bestseller boasts high-tech under bonnet, too. Opel Corsa Electric now also comes with more power and an improved battery enabling a range of up to 402 kilometres according to WLTP 2. Other drives are also a real novelty. Corsa is first Opel model that will be available as a hybrid with a 48-volt system. New Opel Corsa thus offers customers a choice of drives, from purely battery-electric to hybrid to highly efficient combustion engines, which is unrivalled in this segment.

“Opel Corsa has been a bestseller for more than 40 years. In past two years it was also the best-selling small car in Germany and in 2021 the best-selling car overall in the United Kingdom. For us, this success is a confirmation of our work and provides additional motivation to do even better going forward. New Opel Corsa is even more modern, even more emotional, and better. With its stunning design, state-of-art technologies from higher segments and new, locally emission-free electric and hybrid technology, we want to inspire customers and show them what they can expect from a small car today,” said Opel CEO Florian Huettl.

Bold, pure, full of emotions: New Opel Corsa design with Opel Vizor

Perfect proportions and precision down to smallest detail, all packed into a bold and pure appearance – this is new Opel Corsa. Designers have made small car bestseller even more modern and even more stylish. Most striking feature is unmistakable Opel Vizor, characteristic brand face that adorns all new Opel models. Black “Vizor” covers front of  Opel Corsa and seamlessly integrates vehicle grille, Full LED headlights, and central Opel Blitz in one element. Depending on trim level, brand logo on front and rear is presented in eye-catching black or matt satin silver. Optical “air inlets” in lower front bumper area are larger and more prominent than before, planting Opel Corsa even firmer on the road.

Side view of new Opel Corsa also impresses with its characteristic lines. “Break-through” C-pillar seems to allow roof, which comes in black (depending on trim level), to float above vehicle.  Rear-end also portrays a clear picture: Corsa nameplate now appears – as was seen for first time a few months ago on “Opel Corsa 40” limited edition – in centre of tailgate. And Grafik Grey paintwork, available for first time for Opel Corsa, help newcomer shine in new splendor.

Intuitive and focused on essentials: New cockpit design

Thanks to numerous new features, Opel Corsa also creates a modern feel-good atmosphere in interior. New seat patterns as well as a new shift lever and steering wheel design all contribute. However, the highlight – both visually and technically – is the optional fully digital cockpit with new infotainment. Integrated Snapdragon Cockpit Platform from Qualcomm Technologies 1 features enhanced graphics, multimedia, computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to provide a more integrated, contextually aware and constantly adaptive cockpit system that can evolve to meet its passengers’ preferences.

Just like in the development of latest Opel Astra generation, “Detox to the max” principle was applied:  navigation system offers connected services, natural speech recognition “Hey Opel” and over-the-air updates. In addition, displays in 10-inch colour touchscreen of the navigation and multimedia system and in driver information display have been made even clearer, so that all important information can be viewed in a fraction of a second. And newcomer has another trick up its sleeve. For first time, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible smartphones will be connected to vehicle's multimedia systems and also recharged – both wirelessly.

Even more precise: IntelliLux LED Matrix light with 14 LED elements

Since 2019, adaptive, glare-free IntelliLux LED Matrix light in particular has shown how Opel Corsa makes innovations in small car segment available to everyone. Engineers are continuously working on further developments and new Opel Corsa benefits from this commitment. A total of 14 instead of eight individually controllable LED elements ensure a stadium-bright driving experience that now “cuts out” other road users even more precisely than before.

There are also numerous other state-of-the-art assistance systems that make driving and manoeuvring more relaxed. Offer ranges from new, high-resolution panoramic rear-view camera to adaptive cruise control and speed limiter and flank guard to forward collision alert with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection.

More powerful, more efficient: Opel Corsa Electric with improved battery and new motor

Opel will become a fully electric brand in Europe by 2028, 12 models are already electrified today – and Opel Corsa was pioneer in democratization of battery-electric drives in Opel portfolio. It is therefore not surprising that Opel Corsa-e won "Golden Steering Wheel" in 2020 3. Fully electric driving in Opel Corsa means: Locally emission-free travel without compromises – both when completing everyday tasks and when driving for pleasure. New Opel Corsa Electric now takes this to next level: with a wider choice, more power, an improved battery and more range.

Opel Corsa Electric will come with two electric drive options: Small car bestseller will be offered with 100 kW/136 hp and a further improved range of up to 357 kilometres 2, as well as with 115 kW/156 hp and up to 402 kilometres range according to WLTP 2. So Opel Corsa Electric is not only highly efficient – with its battery electric power and 260 Newton meters of torque on tap, it also ensures pure driving pleasure in any case. And when Opel Corsa Electric needs to be recharged, it can be done quickly. At a fast charger, the battery reaches up to 80 percent of its total capacity in just 30 minutes (20-80 percent) 4.

Newcomers to drive range also offer driving fun with responsibility: For first time, Opel will offer customers option of switching to hybrids with a 48-volt system. 74 kW/100 hp and 100 kW/136 hp engines come with a new dual-clutch automatic transmission. In the future, they will complement the wide range of economical drive variants from highly efficient combustion engines to all-electric Opel Corsa Electric, thus consistently continuing the electrification of brand.

Electrifying Start to Rally Season in Northern Germany

  • Exciting opening round to the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup “powered by GSe” 2023
  • Max Reiter wins the cup classification as part of the ADAC Actronics Rallye Sulingen
  • Newcomer Terence Callea on the podium, strong display from FFSA’s Sarah Rumeau

ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup "powered by GSe" celebrated a perfect start to 2023 campaign at ADAC Actronics Rallye Sulingen. 14 teams from seven nations offered thrilling rallying with several lead changes in their 100 kW/136 hp Opel Corsa Rally Electric. In addition, the spectators were treated to hotly contested battle between the cup veterans and ambitious newcomers.

In the end, Max Reiter, an old hand in the cup, prevailed. Rally had started anything but promising for the 23-year-old German with a puncture in the first special stage. But as a result, Reiter, and his co-driver Conny Nemenich turned things up a notch, took command from special stage 6 and finally secured victory by setting the best time in the eleventh and final stage. “After losing time on the first special stage there was no point in tactics, so we went on the attack. That worked great. I'm delighted that it worked out," said the 2021 runner-up who also finished third last year.

While Terence Callea (France), Luca Pröglhöf (Austria), Calle Carlberg (Sweden) and Cristiana Oprea (Romania) also suffered flat tyres in the opening stage, Sarah Rumeau (France) took advantage of the situation and became first woman to set a best time in a special stage since the creation of the ADAC Opel Rallye Cup in 2013.

27-year-old also subsequently demonstrated that the best time was by no means a flash in the pan and was a strong challenger in the FFSA Academy's Corsa Rally Electric. In the end, the two-time French Rally Champion and co-driver Julie Amblard took a respectable fifth place. “We actually coped better with the adverse external conditions yesterday than today. I still need to learn how to get the most out of the Corsa Rally Electric on dry asphalt,” said Rumeau. “All in all, I am satisfied with our debut in the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup. Now we will continue to work on the details to be even better going forward.”

After their problems on the first special stage, Callea and Reiter started chasing Rumeau. The lead finally changed for the first time on special stage 5 when rookie Callea edged past his compatriot to the lead. Ultimately, the Saintéloc driver finished second together with co-driver Enzo Mahinc – all the more remarkable given that the 26-year-old has only been involved in rallying since 2020. However, Callea has already demonstrated his enormous potential by winning the FFSA’s young talent series “Rallye Jeunes”, which has already produced rally idols such as Sébastien Loeb and Sébastien Ogier. “It was a very demanding rally, not least because of the bad weather on the first day. But I love that. I still lack experience to be able to go to the limit under all conditions. But the beginning was okay.”

Last year's cup runner-up Calle Carlberg, as always partnered by his father Torbjörn, also recovered after bad luck in the first special stage. He set fastest times on three stages and secured the last place on the podium.

“That was electric rallying at its best,” said Jörg Schrott, head of Opel Motorsport. “We didn't have any technical problems with our Opel Corsa Rally Electric and the field of participants was more competitive than ever. I was particularly impressed by Sarah Rumeau's great performance. In general: teams from seven nations, three all-female teams and competitive rally – we have a great field. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.”

Second round of the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup "powered by GSe" 2023 will take place at the Rallye du Chablais around Aigle on 2./3. June and thus celebrate its debut in Switzerland.

Standings ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup 2023:

1. Reiter, 30 points

2. Callea and Carlberg, both 27

4. Lemke 20

5. Rumeau 16

6. Pröglhöf 15

7. Van Hoof 14

8. Rott 10

9. Tarta and Baur, both 8

11. Gudet 6

12. Oprea 5

13. Wittenbeck 3

After Grandland GSe 1 and Astra GSe 2, the third member of the exquisite group, the new Opel Astra Sports Tourer GSe, can now also be ordered. And like its GSe siblings, the “Grand Sport electric” estate also lives up to its name. Opel Astra Sports Tourer GSe arouses emotions with dynamic driving characteristics, a sporty chassis, locally emission-free plug-in hybrid drive and its characteristic GSe design without compromising on everyday usability. This is ensured by the typical estate virtues of the compact class bestseller, such as the boot with a loading volume of up to 1,553 litres. New Opel Astra Sports Tourer GSe, which comes with numerous GSe extras and is available at prices starting at € 47,660 (RRP in Germany incl. VAT), combines the best of multiple worlds: pure dynamics and responsible driving please with a high level of everyday use.

“New Opel Astra Sports Tourer GSe is a truly outstanding estate! With its sharpened design, it immediately conveys driving pleasure – for the whole family – it comes with. GSe conveys pure dynamism, is locally emission-free and, as an estate, also offers plenty of space for everyday use," said Opel CEO Florian Huettl.

Electrifying dynamics: GSe chassis and top plug-in hybrid

Powerful drive and the unique chassis form the basis for GSe-specific driving experience. The new Astra Sports Tourer GSe delivers a superior system output of 165 kW/225 hp – 1.6 litre four-cylinder delivers 133 kW/180 hp, the electric motor contributes up to 81.2 kW/110 hp – and maximum torque of a powerful 360 Nm (fuel consumption according to WLTP 3: 1.2-1.1 l/100 km, CO2 emissions 26-25 g/km; each combined). Top-of-the-line estate accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 235 km/h (135 km/h purely electrically). And 2.4 kWh lithium-ion battery ensures that plug-in hybrid can cover up to 63 kilometres locally emission-free according to WLTP4 (EAER City according to WLTP 4: 66-71 km).

Specially calibrated chassis, which is 10 millimetres lower, also promises dynamic driving pleasure. Compared to the “normal” variants of “Golden Steering Wheel 2022” 5 winner, GSe is designed to be even more agile and precise. Special springs and oil-pressure shock absorbers of the front and rear wheel suspension enable not only dynamic but also comfortable driving. So-called KONI FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) technology is responsible for this: Dampers align the respectively required damping force with the movement frequency of the vehicle. In this way, different damping characteristics can be achieved for comfortable gliding at high frequencies and for a sporty, ambitious driving style with more direct road contact at low frequencies. ESP settings on the GSe follow this lead: the electronic stability program intervenes later, so that GSe drivers can drive even more dynamically. Opel Astra Sports Tourer GSe offers exceptional stability and directional stability when cornering, when braking and – like every Opel – at high speeds on the “Autobahn”. Steering is also sporty tuned specifically for the GSe. It also reacts even more immediately and directly to any command from the driver.

Pure sportiness: Bold, clear Opel Astra design with GSe styling highlights

Elsewhere, like its GSe sibling, Opel Astra Sports Tourer GSe is a true eyecatcher. It comes with exclusive 18-inch alloy wheels in diamond cut/black and a characteristic GSe front bumper and rear diffuser. Inside, specific AGR-certified GSe performance seats embrace tie driver and front seat passenger. Seat and steering wheel heating ensure a feel-good atmosphere even on cold days. And if you want to go on a family holiday with the dynamic estate, Opel Astra Sports Tourer GSe has 516 to 1,553 litres of boot space. Suitcases or other items can be easily loaded using via the tailgate, which optionally opens and closes automatically with a foot gesture.

A wide full range of state-of-the-art assistance systems from Opel rounds off the offer. Standard equipment includes Intelli-Drive system with forward collision alert and active emergency braking, pedestrian and drowsiness detection, lane departure warning and traffic sign assistant, cross traffic and side blind spot alert and automatic speed assistant with stop function as standard. Parking pilot for the front and rear and the 360-degree Intelli-Vision camera support the driver when manoeuvring. And GSe passengers are well connected with the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible multimedia navigation system including 10-inch colour touchscreen and 10-inch driver information display (12-inch display in Opel Grandland GSe). Compatible smartphones can also be easily charged via wireless charging in the centre console.

GT/E will be driven by none other than decathlon world and European champion and Opel partner Niklas Kaul. But he's not the only one who can enjoy sporty performance of Opel vehicles. Organizers of Bodensee Klassik are also extremely dynamic and at the same time locally emission-free: in top model of "Golden Steering Wheel 2022" title winner 1, the new Opel Astra GSe (fuel consumption according to WLTP 2 : 1.2-1.1 l/100 km, CO 2 emissions 26-25 g/km; each combined).

Idyllic landscapes, picturesque stations, sporty rides

Since the start in 2012, Bodensee Klassik has been inspiring with its varied and scenic routes. This is exactly what characterizes 10th edition of classic rally. It starts on Thursday afternoon, May 4th, for  “Prologue” from Friedrichshafen through wide apple orchards. On Friday, May 5th, field of participants then embarks on “Bodensee-Umrundung” – a real three-country tour that leads from Germany through Switzerland, Austria and back to Friedrichshafen. By the end of the "Allgäu stage" on Saturday, May 6th, rally drivers and their co-drivers will have covered several hundred kilometers and will have gained unforgettable experiences.

Opel Kadett C: Compact class hero of  70s on tour

Opel is launching multi-faceted compact class Kadett C at anniversary rally. Whether as a neat family car, a chic second car with a practical tailgate or a powerful amateur athlete in war paint - family of Opel Kadett C produced from 1973 to 1979 has many faces. Characteristic design features are flat radiator grille, bonnet with brand-typical crease and front apron designed as a spoiler.

A special example at this year's Bodensee Klassik is Opel Kadett GT/E. Its 1.9‑liter engine with L-Jetronic injection from Bosch initially delivered 77 kW/105 hp and enabled a top speed of up to 184 km/h with an unladen weight of only around 900 kilograms. Second version of Opel Kadett GT/E with 85 kW/110 hp that followed in 1977 was intended to make entry into motorsport particularly easy. Competition vehicle, which was consistently trimmed for sporty use, still inspires enthusiasts today with its equipment from the two-liter engine with electronic fuel injection to ZF five-speed gearbox and limited-slip differential to the sporty tuned and reinforced chassis. Eye-catching white and yellow paintwork was standard.

One of these Opel fans is Niklas Kaul. Yyoungest decathlon world champion of all time and European champion 2022 appreciates top sporting performance with endurance. That's why he wants to experience power of Opel Kadett C for himself and gets behind the wheel at Bodensee Klassik. In addition, AUTO BILD KLASSIK editorial manager Malte Büttner and Opel Classic manager Leif Rohwedder will complete field in a 1972 Opel Commodore GS/E.

Dynamic on move: Opel Astra and Astra GSe support rally organizers

Top models of new Opel sub-brand GSe show how top dynamics can be combined with responsible driving fun in a modern and emotional way. Today, GSe stands for “Grand Sport electric”. Youngest offspring of Opel Kadett and Astra family, for example, also drives up as a rally support vehicle on Lake Constance as a sharp Opel Astra GSe . With a superior system output of 165 kW/225 hp and a maximum torque of a powerful 360 Newton meters, it sets standards in its class. And thanks to the 12.4 kWh lithium-ion battery, it can cover up to 64 kilometers locally emission-free according to WLTP 3 (EAER City according to WLTP 3: 69-73 km).

In addition, top-of-the-line GSe variant, like its siblings of the current Astra generation, implements the strong heritage of brand in an innovative and inspiring way: with clear, exciting lines without superfluous flourishes and characteristic Opel Vizor brand face inspired by Opel Manta A. Highest level of safety and comfort is also ensured: Opel Astra offers numerous state-of-the-art technologies from adaptive, non-glare IntelliLux LED Pixel light with a total of 168 LED elements to the Intelli-Drive system, which combines many driver assistance systems to the fully digital, intuitively operated Pure Panel Cockpit.

Opel and ADAC extend partnership in Electric Rally Racing

  • New sub-brand, new name for cup: ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup “powered by GSe”
  • Opel as a pioneer: First electric one-make rally cup enters its third season

Opel has reaffirmed its commitment to world's first electric one-make rally cup, previously known as ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup, which has been renamed and will be called ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup "powered by GSe". Like Opel's future, the brand's motorsport activities are electric. That is why name of new sporty sub-brand GSe (Grand Sport electric) can now also be found in title of electric racing series. ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup "powered by GSe" will also be even more international in the 2023 season: A total of eight events in four countries (Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland) are on the calendar. In addition, Opel and ADAC have extended their existing agreement until 2024.

“Opel and the ADAC created world's first electric one-make rally cup together. This pioneering spirit has set a powerful and important example in international rallying. We will continue and further develop this innovative racing series together – in line with our sporty GSe top models and our strategy of becoming a fully electric brand in Europe by 2028,” said Opel CEO Florian Huettl.

“Innovative concept of the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup is a prime example of how to successfully combine work with young talents and electric motorsport. ADAC is a pioneer for more sustainability in motorsport, and with early extension of our cooperation with Opel we are sending a strong signal for electrifying rallying,” added ADAC Sport President Dr. Gerd Ennser.

Rüsselsheim-based carmaker and Europe's largest automobile club have been cooperating in motorsports for over a decade and, in addition to the successful one-make cup projects ADAC Opel Rallye Cup and ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup, this partnership has also produced ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team. Junior Team represents the second pillar of joint talent development programme – and has an impressive track record. In 2022, Laurent Pellier celebrated fifth title for ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team in FIA Junior ERC Rally Championship (JERC) in Opel Corsa Rally4. One year earlier, Frenchman was crowned first ever champion of the ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup.

"Cooperation between ADAC and Opel is a prime example of successful talent promotion," said Jrg Schrott, head of Opel Motorsport. “Both partners share a common philosophy and strategy. Around 120 drivers from 19 nations have taken their first steps in professional rallying since 2013 season in ADAC and Opel one-make cups. Best of them made it into ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team and caused a real stir at European level. Five JERC driver titles by Emil Bergkvist, Marijan Griebel, Chris Ingram, Mārtiņš Sesks and Laurent Pellier speak for themselves. I am pleased with early extension of our agreement. It gives the participants and teams more planning security.”

One of several highlights on 2023 racing calendar is the season finale at the Central European Rally around Passau, where cup participants will compete in their 100 kW/136 hp battery-electric Opel Corsa Rally Electric as part of FIA World Rally Championship. At same time, the 2022 Cup Champion Timo Schulz will try to follow in Laurent Pellier's footsteps in Opel Corsa Rally4 in Junior European Championship.
