Frugal: 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX only uses 3.1 l/100 km, efficiency class A+
Comfortable: Easytronic 3.0 with outstanding fuel efficiency and smooth gear shifts
Exemplary: New Opel Corsa most economical diesel on the market
Exemplary: New Corsa 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX most economic Opel on the market
The new Opel Corsa E is not only extremely good looking, it is also a real fuel saving champion. The three-door 70 kW/95 hp 1.3 CDTI ecoFlex with Start/Stop technology fitted as standard, braking energy recuperation and low-rolling-resistance tires combined with the new Easytronic 3.0 transmission can reduce CO2 emissions to 82 grams per kilometer. Fuel consumption is down to exemplary 3.1 liters per 100 kilometers for the combined cycle making the new Corsa the most economical Opel presently on the market and the most economical diesel available. The eco-champion will be available for in Germany from March.
“Our automated five-speed manual transmission in the new Corsa is a real highlight for price-conscious customers who do not want to miss the comfort of an automatic,” said Peter Christian Küspert, Vice President Sales & Aftersales Opel Group. “When combined with the frugal diesel the small car becomes an efficiency giant. Therefore, it is perfect for both short urban shopping trips and longer journeys.”
Economical: Standard consumption of only 3.1 l/100 km with 82g/km CO2
Frugal: Opel ECOTEC 1.3 CDTI four-cylinder only uses 3.1 l/100 km, efficiency class A+
The fundamentally revamped diesel engine with 70 kW/ 95 hp and maximum torque of 190 Nm at 1,750 – 2,500 rpm in combination with a latest generation turbocharger allows for superior drive and acceleration even at low revs while simultaneously being extremely quiet. A water pump, operational when required, and a variable oil pump contribute to the exemplary consumption and CO2 values. Furthermore, the specially developed low-rolling-resistance tires and the Opel braking energy recuperation system also play an important part. With these innovations the three-door Corsa with the new Easytronic 3.0 transmission only uses 3.1 liter per 100 kilometers and emits a mere 82 grams of CO2 per kilometer, three grams less than with a manual five-speed gearbox (according to regulation [EC] No. 715/2007), thus seeing it qualify for efficiency class A+.
Easytronic 3.0: Huge comfort – small consumption
The five-speed Easytronic 3.0 weighs less and has lower internal friction than a conventional automatic transmission. It combines the advantages of a comfortable automatic transmission with the efficiency of a manual transmission. Easytronic 3.0 automatically selects the most fuel-efficient gear based on a manual transmission optimized for smaller engines and enables economical driving. The automated transmission is combined with Start/Stop technology that reduces fuel consumption even further especially in urban areas.
Comfortable: Easytronic 3.0 with outstanding fuel efficiency and smooth gear shifts
The Opel engineers developed a special gearwheel set for the automated transmission. The wide gear ratio spread of the five-gear wheel set reduces engine running speed, for example during highway travel, to a pleasant noise level. Furthermore, Easytronic 3.0 also offers a ‘creep’ mode similar to that of an automatic transmission for slow maneuvers. The transmission has a special start function for rapid starts and sporty acceleration.
Reduces fuel consumption: The Easytronic 3.0 automated gearbox
The latest generation of Easytronic impresses with reduced reaction times enabling quicker and smoother gear shifts. This optimization was made possible by a new actuator along with improved sensor and control technology and by the completely revamped manual base gearbox. In addition to automatic mode with an electro-hydraulic actuator taking over shifting and clutching operations, Easytronic 3.0 also offers manual gear shifting via push and pull operation of the gearshift.

More power and torque combined with outstanding consumption and noise levels
Successful Opel Mokka available with 100 kW/136 hp whisper diesel from euro 24,685
Opel flagship Insignia 2.0 CDTI with 125 kW/170 hp available from euro 29,895
New generation Diesel: Opel Insignia and Mokka SUV now with more power and torque combined with outstanding consumption and noise levels.
Extremely quiet, high power, high torque all combined with low consumption and emissions – these are the key elements of the new generation Opel diesels for Mokka and Insignia. The successful models can now be ordered with the new high-tech four-cylinder engines. The 100 kW/136 hp 1.6 CDTI in the Mokka will deliver a lot of driving fun for an entry-level price of euro 24,685. The Insignia sedan will be available with a 125 kW/170 hp two-liter turbo from euro 29,895 (RRP including VAT in Germany). The smooth and refined engines are another important step in the roll-out of Opel’s new powertrain portfolio and set standards in efficiency and environmental friendliness. Their emissions already meet the Euro 6 standards that will be compulsory from September and they are therefore almost as clean as comparable gasoline engines.
Whisper diesel: 1.6 CDTI for Opel Mokka, 2.0 CDTI for flagship Insignia
The Opel Mokka can currently boast the fastest growth on the European car market. The modern chassis and propulsion technologies are obviously key to the success of the sub-compact SUV. The latest development is the new all-aluminum four-cylinder engine, which will replace the 1.7 CDTI. The new high-tech engine gives more power and torque – up six hp and 20 Nm, respectively – from a smaller displacement, as well as significantly lower fuel consumption.
All-New Opel ECOTEC 1.6 CDTI
The lively 1.6 CDTI in the 100 kW/136 hp version reaches 85 hp per liter – unrivalled in its displacement class – and delivers torque of 320 Nm. Acceleration and elasticity figures promise lots of driving fun: the Mokka 1.6 CDTI accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 9.9 seconds, and makes the transition from 80 to 120 km/h in fifth gear in just 9.9 seconds. Maximum speed is 191 km/h. The whisper diesel is also extremely economical and kinder to the environment: with Opel’s precise six-speed manual transmission and standard Start/Stop system, the 1.6 CDTI Mokka consumes just 4.1 l/100 km over the combined cycle while emitting only 109 g/km CO2. This is almost 0.5 l/100 km less fuel and 11 g/km less CO2 than the predecessor 1.7 liter version. This new diesel engine complies with the stringent Euro 6 emissions standard, making it almost as clean as a comparable gasoline unit.
Whisper diesel: 1.6 CDTI with 100 kW/136 hp and 320 Nm for Opel Mokka SUV
The same can also be said for the extremely quiet two-liter turbo diesel in the Insignia. Extracting as much energy from as little fuel as possible is key to both power and frugality, and with an exceptional specific output of 87 hp per liter – a slightly higher power density as Opel’s new-generation 2.0 CDTI – this engine is big on fun-to-drive but small in its impact on customers’ wallets. Impressive torque of 400 Nm is available from 1,750 to 2,500 rpm, and maximum power of 125 kW/170 hp is accessed at just 3,750 rpm. The new powerhouse boasts around four percent more power and 14 percent more torque while maintaining exactly the same consumption as it predecessor and meeting Euro 6 emission standards. The Insignia with the new engine reaches a maximum speed of 225 km/h – an increase of 5 km/h. The sedan accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 9.0 seconds – almost half a second quicker than its predecessor.
Powerplant: 2.0 CDTI with 125 kW/170 hp and 400 Nm for Opel Insignia
Pure high-tech: For strong performance and small ecological footprint
Two of the main contributors to the strong and environmentally friendly performance of both engines are the VGT (variable geometry turbine) turbocharger and the high-pressure, common-rail fuel injection system. Injectors capable of supplying fuel at 2,000 bar and of up to 10 injection pulses per cylinder cycle ensure high power, improved fuel atomization and efficient mixing with the air intake charge. The VGT in the Insignia features an electrical actuator for the variable aspect turbine, giving a 20 percent faster boost response than a vacuum actuator. Thus guaranteeing even more diesel fun.
Drivers will be able to enjoy the new engines without any regrets because Opel’s new generation whisper diesels deliver outstanding emission levels comparable to those of a gasoline engine. The big diesel weakness, the emission of nitrogen oxides, is history. The 1.6 CDTI in the Mokka uses a Lean NOx Trap (LNT), an exhaust after-treatment system upstream of the diesel particulate filter that captures and removes nitrogen oxides (NOx) from the exhaust gases without the use of additives.
The Insignia comes with Opel’s BlueInjection selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system, which removes nitrogen oxide from the engine’s exhaust gases. Tiny quantities of AdBlue®, a harmless fluid consisting of urea and water, are injected into the exhaust gas flow ahead of the SCR catalyst and downstream of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The solution is immediately converted into ammonia (NH3), which is absorbed by the SCR catalyst. Nitrogen oxide in the passing exhaust gas is then selectively reduced to harmless nitrogen and water vapor in a chemical reaction with the ammonia.
Smooth running: Diesel power with turbine-like refinement
Apart from increasing performance and efficiency, the improvement of running smoothness was a key requirement for the new engines right from the outset of their design. The engineers implemented several measures during construction and fine-tuning to reduce the noise levels and vibrations of the engine thus improving refinement. Architectural improvements focused on two main noise-emitting areas: the top and bottom of the engine and ranged from a decoupled, cam cover on the aluminum cylinder head over a newly designed oil sump to a new balancer shaft module for the two-liter diesel.
Opel ECOTEC 2.0 CDTI: Impressive torque of 400 Nm is available from 1,750 to 2,500 rpm, and maximum power of 125 kW/170 hp is accessed at just 3,750 rpm.
The result: The new 2.0 CDTI can boast reduced noise levels in every rpm range compared to its predecessor and is five decibels quieter when idling.
And the latest generation 1.6 CDTI previously known from the Opel Astra and Meriva MPV has not been nicknamed “whisper diesel” for nothing.
Opel ECOTEC 1.6 CDTI: With the new 100 kW/136 hp Turbo diesel, Mokka SUV boasts a fuel consumption of only 4.1 liters per 100 kilometers over the combined cycle, which is equivalent to a CO2 emission of 109 grams per kilometer.
The all-new 1.6 CDTI Opel Mokka is available with front-wheel drive and six-speed manual or automatic gearbox. The all-wheel drive (AWD) comes with a six-speed manual gearbox. Opel Insignia sedan, liftback and Sports Tourer with the new two-liter turbo diesel are available with a six-speed gearbox and front or four-wheel drive.

Economical 1.3 CDTI ecoFlex engine and more payload capacity than predecessor
Excellent connectivity with IntelliLink Infotainment System
Numerous safety features thanks to close relationship with passenger car
Exciting combination: The new Opel Corsavan combines the comfort, safety features and performance of a passenger car with the transport capacity of a small van.
Following the successful launch of the new Opel Corsa at the Paris Motor Show in October of last year, the new Corsavan will make its debut at the Brussels Motor Show (January 16 to 25, 2015). The small but capable van will be on show at the Opel stand in Hall 9 of the Brussels Expo and is part of Opel’s new light commercial vehicle strategy. Based on the new three-door Corsa, the nippy city delivery van, which combines the comfort, safety features and performance of a passenger car with the transport capacity of a small van can be ordered now and will be at dealerships in the first quarter of this year.
The new Corsavan is even more practical than its predecessor, offering 21 kilograms more maximum payload. Furthermore, it also comes with numerous safety features such as the award-winning Side Blind Spot Alert or the second-generation Opel Eye front camera, with Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist, Following Distance Indication and Forward Collision Warning. To top things off, the optional IntelliLink Infotainment System guarantees excellent connectivity. Compatible with Android and Apple devices it makes the Corsavan the best-connected city delivery van on the market.
“The Corsavan offers small businesses the comfort and practicality of a van combined with the most up-to-date safety and connectivity features of its passenger car sibling at an extremely attractive price,” said Steffen Raschig, Director of Opel Commercial Vehicles. Raschig expects the Corsavan to be especially popular in Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom, where the predecessor model also enjoys great success.
Dynamic and practical
Economical advantage: The servicing intervals guarantee that the vehicles spend even more time on the road.
From the outside, the Corsavan barely looks like a commercial vehicle at all. It shares the new Corsa’s dynamic appearance and fits easily into tight parking spaces thanks to its compact dimensions (4021 mm long, 1944 mm wide including exterior mirrors and 1479 mm high, turning circle 9.9 meters) and speed sensitive power steering. Its spacious and modern interior offers generous leg and headroom. The ergonomic design puts every switch and control within easy reach. The cabin feels more like an office and allows owners/drivers to get some paperwork done between appointments. Contoured, supportive seats provide ample comfort throughout the day.
More payload: New Opel Corsavan’s large, flat loading area provides a capacity of 920 liters with a maximum payload of 571 kilograms.
The compact proportions in no way detract from the agile city van’s great transport capacity. The Corsavan’s large, flat loading area provides a capacity of 920 liters with a maximum payload of 571 kilograms. Standard features such as a solid steel floor and half-height steel bulkhead along with half-height sidewall paneling and load restraint lashing eyes all serve to protect and stabilize cargo. Additionally, upper load restraint mesh, fitted rubber floor mat and four-piece load compartment cover are optional for even more load protection.
New Opel Corsavan: Safe transportation: Load restraint lashing eyes serve to protect and stabilize cargo.
Economical and lively
The engine lineup consists of 1.4 liter gasoline engines and 1.3 liter diesel aggregates with outputs ranging from 70 to 95 hp. The 1.3 CDTI ecoFlex engine with 95 hp is the pick of the diesel aggregates and has undergone comprehensive redevelopment for use in the new Corsavan. It delivers 190 Nm torque, comes with Start/Stop as standard and is Euro-6 compliant. While delivering a lively drive it also keeps fuel consumption at an outstanding 3.3 liters per 100 kilometers for the combined cycle, with CO2 emissions down to an impressive 88 grams per kilometer.
The servicing intervals also represent an economical advantage. Main services intervals have been set to every two years or 60.000 km (whatever comes first) with an interim service interval of every 30.000 km or yearly. This guarantees that the vehicles spend even more time representing the client on the road.
Outstanding connectivity
Elsewhere, the optional IntelliLink infotainment system’s 7-inch color touchscreen is located on the center stack. Opel’s award-winning infotainment system offers optimum connectivity opportunities. It is compatible with Apple and Android devices and makes the Corsavan the best-connected small van on the market. The driver can use apps like BringGo for navigation as well as Stitcher and TuneIn for worldwide radio and podcast reception. With IntelliLink, a driver can plan his entire day without having to return to the office. Emails, contacts or the personal calendar are all easily accessible. The integration of Apple iOS devices within IntelliLink enables Siri Eyes Free voice control. This makes it possible for drivers to hear an incoming SMS read aloud or dictate an SMS and emails – all while keeping their hands on the wheel and their eyes on the road ahead.
Comprehensive Safety & Comfort Package
When it comes to safety, the Corsavan benefits greatly from its close relationship with its passenger car sibling and comes with a generous package of safety features. The highlight is Opel’s award-winning Side Blind Spot Alert, which uses ultrasonic sensors to warn the driver of an imminent collision when changing lanes, overtaking or turning a corner. The sensors have a range of three meters to the left and right of the vehicle, and detect objects or other vehicles in the driver’s blind spots. Whenever another vehicle comes within range of the sensors, a warning LED illuminates in the relevant exterior door mirror. Side Blind Spot Alert works in speeds ranging from 10 km/h to 140 km/h.
The second-generation Opel Eye front camera, with Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist, Following Distance Indication and Forward Collision Warning, also further increases driving safety. Traffic Sign Recognition reads speed limit- and no-passing signs and displays them on the instrument panel. Lane Departure Warning alerts drivers when they unintentionally stray out of their lane. High Beam Assist offers a considerable safety advantage when driving in the dark automatically activating the high beam light for better road illumination and improved visibility. Following Distance Indication, which is activated automatically at speeds from 40 km/h, not only helps to prevent collisions, but also helps to avoid possible fines for not maintaining sufficient safety distance to the vehicle in front. If the vehicle gets into a critical situation where a collision with the preceding vehicle is imminent, Forward Collision Warning alerts the driver with a loud alarm as well as a visual warning on the instrument cluster.
At the touch of a button, the City mode of the steering system, fitted as standard except when the Opel Eye front camera is chosen, increases power assistance at lower speeds, which is particularly useful when maneuvering in congested urban areas. Hill Start Assist also comes as standard. It maintains the brake function for about two seconds. This prevents the Corsavan from rolling back when starting on a slope. On cold days, owners benefit from the heated ThermaTec windscreen that ensures perfect visibility and the heated steering wheel.

Reaffirms previously announced 2016 targets and plan to achieve 9- to 10-percent margin by early next decade
General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) expects its total earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) adjusted and EBIT-adjusted margin to increase in 2015, compared to 2014, after adjusting 2014 for the impact of recall costs. The company also anticipates improved automotive results in all regions.
This outlook is based on modest global industry growth expected in 2015, which will result primarily from continued growth in China, Europe and the United States, and ongoing launches of key vehicles.
CEO Mary Barra, President Dan Ammann, and Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Chuck Stevens shared this outlook with investor analysts attending the Deutsche Bank 2015 Global Auto Industry Conference in Detroit.
GM reiterated it is on track to meet its previously announced 2016 financial targets to achieve EBIT-adjusted margins in North America of 10 percent; to return to profitability in Europe, and to maintain strong margins in China.
The company also said its plan puts it on the path to achieve 9- to 10-percent margins by early next decade. The strategic plan, shared during the Global Business Conference in October 2014, includes several major initiatives: lead in product and technology; grow the Chevrolet and Cadillac brands globally; continue growing in China; continue growing GM Financial, and deliver core operating efficiencies.
“We had a pivotal year in 2014, outlining a customer-focused strategic plan for the company and delivering on our commitments by achieving strong core operating performance,” Barra said. “We’ll build on this momentum in 2015 and continue executing our plan to become the most-valued automotive company.”
Among key accomplishments for 2014, Barra noted the following:
Earned the most J.D. Power Initial Quality Study awards for second consecutive year in the United States.
Launched more models in North America with 4G LTE mobile broadband than all other automakers combined.
GM and its joint ventures sold a record 3.5 million vehicles in China, up 12.0 percent from 2013.
Opel/Vauxhall market share in Europe grew for the second year in a row, including increases in 12 European markets.
Achieved five straight quarters of EBIT-adjusted margin growth in
North America through the third quarter of 2014 (excluding recalls).
Standard & Poor’s upgraded GM and GM Financial to investment grade.
Returned $2.0 billion to common stock shareholders through dividends.
To support its future growth, GM plans to increase capital expenditures to approximately $9 billion in 2015, reflecting increased investments in products and technologies.
“Overall, 2014 was a very solid year in which we met expectations on core operating performance, despite a number of significant headwinds,” Stevens said.
“Importantly, improvements in 2015 will keep us firmly on track to meet our near-term objectives and demonstrate solid progress toward our targeted margins of 9 to 10 percent by early next decade.”
General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) is reporting its second consecutive year of record global sales. In 2014, the company and its dealers delivered 9,924,880 vehicles around the world, surpassing by 2 percent the record set in 2013.
“GM is making solid progress and has good momentum. Our customer focus, the new cars, trucks and crossovers we launched in China and North America, technologies like OnStar with 4GLTE and the revitalization underway at Opel helped us achieve another record year, despite very challenging market conditions in different parts of the world,” said GM CEO Mary Barra.
Among GM’s major launches are the new Opel Corsa E, which arrives in European showrooms later this month and the Chevrolet Trax small crossover in the United States, which began arriving in showrooms in December 2014. In addition, GM is increasing U.S. production of the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-size pickups, which launched late last year. Launches in China include three Chevrolets, two Buicks and two Cadillacs. OnStar is also expanding into Europe and launching 4GLTE service in China.
Deliveries in North America rose 6 percent in 2014 to 3,412,714 units and the company’s estimated market share of 16.9 percent was equal to 2013.
The redesigned full-size pickups and large SUVs introduced by Chevrolet and GMC starting in the second half of 2013, along with the Cadillac Escalade, were major contributors to the company’s success in North America. Dealers delivered almost 1 million units in the United States alone, up 11 percent year over year, which helped drive average transaction prices to a full-year record of nearly $33,900, up about $2,600 from 2013, according to J.D. Power PIN estimates.
Deliveries in China rose 12 percent to a record 3,539,972 and the company’s estimated market share increased 0.6 percentage points to 14.8 percent. Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, Wuling and Baojun all set annual sales records.
GM and its joint ventures expanded their lineup with several new and refreshed models in China, including the Buick Envision premium midsize SUV, Chevrolet Trax and Sail 3 family car, Cadillac ATS-L luxury sport sedan and Baojun 730 family vehicle.
Global Sales Highlights (vs. 2013)
Chevrolet sales in China were up 10 percent to a record 717,007
units, sales in the United States were up 4 percent to more than 2
million units and the brand was the market leader in South America.
Global sales were down 4 percent, reflecting Chevrolet’s repositioning
in Europe and weak industry conditions in a number of the brand’s major
markets.
Cadillac increased its sales 5 percent on the strength of a 47
percent increase in China, where sales reached a record 73,500 units.
Buick delivered nearly 1.2 million vehicles, with sales in North
America and China both up 13 percent. In the United States, the Buick
Encore has become the industry’s best-selling small crossover. On a
global basis, the Encore ended 2014 with sales of 138,218 units, up 42
percent.
Opel/Vauxhall delivered almost 1.1 million vehicles in Europe in
2014, and had its highest sales and market share since 2011. Sales in
the region were up 3.4 percent, which nearly doubled the industry’s 1.8
percent increase. Sales were up in 16 European countries.
In the United States, Chevrolet and GMC increased their combined
share of the retail market for large pickups by a full percentage point
to 38.9 percent. The brands’ retail share in the large SUV segment was
up 7.8 points to 74.7 percent.

For the second year running, Opel Group CEO Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann was able to accept a Connected Car Award for the digital connectivity of the company’s vehicles. Opel won the Pioneer Award for especially trendsetting innovations with OnStar, the comprehensive carefree package of connected safety, high-class mobility services and progressive information technology. Opel will initially introduce OnStar in selected European markets by the middle of the year. Each vehicle will be fitted with 4G LTE, the car becomes a powerful, mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, giving easier access to apps and services that require a high-speed cellular or data connection, for up to seven mobile devices. “Presently, internet is normally a premium topic but Opel have made an expensive technology mainstream,” explained magazines Auto Bild and Computer Bild in the reasoning for the award. Opel already won a Pioneer Award last year for the IntelliLink infotainment system in the Opel ADAM.

From 14,990 euro: Open air fun with Swing Top canvas roof for the Opel ADAM
Easytronic 3.0: Automated transmission for more efficiency and comfort
Cool interior: New Extreme Package ‘Hashtag’ for Opel ADAM GLAM
New appearance: Opel ADAM with the extraordinary Swing Top canvas roof is available in new colors such as ‘Greenfellas’.
The individualization champion Opel ADAM will be even more unique from now on. Impossible? Wrong! New technologies and features will extend the motley ADAM family: The Swing Top canvas roof, previously exclusively premiered in the mini-crossover ADAM ROCKS, is now also available for the ‘standard’ version of the urban lifestyle car. The new ADAM SWINGTOP will offer an unrestricted view of the sky as standard at the push of a button. New ADAM owners will have even more options to personalize their vehicle with the new ADAM GLAM Extreme Package ‘Hashtag’. Opel has also increased the options for transmissions and now offers Easytronic 3.0, the latest in automated transmission technology, for drivers who no longer want to shift themselves permanently. The new system not only allows for quicker and softer automatic gear changes but also helps reduce consumption and emissions by around eight percent.
“These new attractive possibilities will further strengthen our large ADAM family and give everybody the opportunity to configure their personal ADAM favorite,” explained Peter Christian Küspert, Vice President Sales & Aftersales Opel Group. “The choice of colors is growing too. We have added new colors in ‘Forget about Grey’ and ‘Greenfellas’. Therefore, customers can choose from 19 different bodywork colors now.”
Opel ADAM with Swing Top roof: Pure open-air pleasure
Fresh air fanatics now have a further option at their disposal alongside the mini-crossover Opel ADAM ROCKS with the ‘standard’ Opel ADAM now being available with the extraordinary Swing Top canvas roof. Opel ADAM with Swing Top canvas roof is based on the Opel ADAM JAM configuration and offers occupants an unrestricted view of the sky in a mere five seconds. The roof retracts to the C-pillar at the touch of a button. It can be closed up to speeds of 140 km/h. The layers, including a central neoprene layer, make the Swing Top extremely robust and durable. Furthermore, the entire roof module is acoustically tuned for good noise insulation inside the cabin.

Opel ADAM with Swing Top roof offers pure convertible feeling without the typical convertible disadvantages for an entry-level price of euro 14,990 (RRP including VAT in Germany). Neither trunk capacity nor all-round vision suffer under this roof design, no matter whether the roof is open or closed.
Easytronic 3.0: Great comfort – small price
Furthermore, the immediate introduction of the newly developed Easytronic 3.0 will complete the Opel ADAM transmission portfolio. The automated gearbox combines the advantages of a comfortable automatic transmission with the increased efficiency of a manual gearbox. The third generation of Easytronic promises shortened response times, resulting in gear changes that are unrivalled by any other automated transmission in terms of smoothness and speed.
Reduces fuel consumption: The Easytronic 3.0 automated gearbox
Apart from increasing driving comfort, improving efficiency was key during the development of Easytronic. In combination with the 64 KW/87 hp 1.4-liter naturally aspirated engine, Easytronic 3.0 cuts fuel consumption by up to 0.4 liters per 100 kilometers for the combined cycle compared to a five-speed manual transmission. This is equivalent to a reduction of CO2 emissions by 10 grams per kilometer. In this arrangement, Opel ADAM 1.4 ecoFLEX with Start/Stop consumes 4.7 liters per 100 kilometers and emits 109 grams of CO2 per kilometer, meaning that it makes the leap from efficiency class C to B. However, the key factor is affordability. Therefore, Easytronic is available for a very reasonable euro 600 (RRP including VAT in Germany).
New design proportion, device integration, rejuvenating interior push brand forward
The Avenir is distinguished by its premium sports proportions and all-new interpretations of traditional Buick cues.
The Avenir – French for future – is distinguished by its premium sports proportions and all-new interpretations of traditional Buick cues. It is the creation of a global team of Buick designers and sculptors who were inspired by historic Buick concepts, which pushed traditional boundaries, shaped future Buick models and influenced the entire auto industry.
2015 Buick Avenir Concept
“Avenir embodies Buick design, which centers on effortless beauty and presence without pretense,” said Ed Welburn, vice president of General Motors Global Design. “It demonstrates the growing international reach of Buick and offers an exciting vision of where it can go.”
The Avenir’s sculptural surfacing, expressive proportion and Buick’s signature sweep-spear bodyside visually cue an exceptional driving experience that awaits inside.
“The interior is designed with the driver and passengers’ comfort and well-being in mind,” said Welburn. “Technology is seamlessly integrated and builds on the features that have become hallmarks for today’s production models – helping drive a new generation of customers to Buick.”

A new design direction with a nod to the past
A long hood, wheels-at-the-corners stance and a sloping, rear deck that pays homage to historical models, such as the Riviera, distinguish the Avenir’s proportion.
“Simply put, Avenir is a beautiful piece of sculpture, delivered on a premium proportion that acknowledges the Buick design heritage in a very progressive way,” said Michael Simcoe, vice president of design, GM International Operations. “The vehicle remains unmistakably Buick with a modern take on the traditional Buick cues such as the sweep spear and boattail. The result is a piece of artistry that is precise in its character, beautifully proportioned. It really takes your breath away.”
The most striking departure from contemporary Buick models is a new grille design that puts a new face on the brand. It features a large opening accented by a return to the three-color – red, silver and blue – Buick tri-shield insignia, accented by wing-shaped elements. The grille is flanked by bold headlamps featuring full LED lighting.
“The new grille is a modern interpretation of a design introduced on the landmark 1954 Wildcat II concept, which shattered expectations of what a Buick was supposed to be,” said Simcoe. “On the Avenir, it represents a break from convention and progressiveness in technology.”
Sculptural surfaces, taught lines, short overhangs and a broad-shouldered stance stretches 204.5 inches (5,195 mm) in length and 76 inches (1,931 mm) in width. Its reimagined sweep-spear element complements the long body lines and conveys a sense of motion, as does tapered rear-end styling.
Avenir’s sophisticated color palette, including a Crystalline exterior color and strained use of bright work accent the Avenir’s body lines and sets up the interior for a combination that takes Buick’s contemporary style to a higher level.
“It’s a sculpted design with a lot of snap in the character lines – with a classic long, low proportion,” said Simcoe. “Its length enables exceptional spaciousness inside, but just as importantly, a presence that speaks to luxury and the importance of style. In short, it’s the befitting proportion for a Buick flagship.”
A soothing environment with unprecedented integration
The Avenir’s four-place interior rewards the senses, makes managing technologies easier and enhances the feelings of personal space and well-being.
“A flowing, sculptural quality in the interior forms, deco trim, premium leather and ambient lighting, create an environment that is inviting and comfortable,” said Liz Wetzel, Buick interior design director.
The Avenir’s four-place interior rewards the senses, makes managing technologies easier and enhances the feelings of personal space and well-being.
Interior surfaces - inspired by nature and sea waves receding on a beach - flow seamlessly through the cabin. It is a motif featured on the seats and carried through in other trim components – even the carpet. In fact, a patterned insert for the carpet carries the motif in silk and bamboo.
“There’s an almost-three-dimensional or bas-relief effect to the design motif that adds depth and heightens the sense of place,” said Wetzel. “Layered and floating elements such as the center console enhance the perception of lightness, efficiency and dynamism.”
A color palette of light and natural tones blended with oiled and buffed wood trim, and Galvano satin-chrome accents, enhance the Avenir’s ambience.
“They’re rich, premium materials and warm colors innovatively executed to enhance the soothing effect of the interior environment,” said Wetzel.
Functionality is manifested in the Avenir’s device-integration technologies, which are designed to lift the user’s mood and make the details associated with daily life a little easier. It starts the moment the vehicle is started, synchronizing information and devices within seconds. The Avenir instantly configures gauge cluster and infotainment screen displays based on prior customization while also recognizing the user’s music preferences, calendar schedule and recently visited locations from a cellphone’s GPS. It can even pick up a podcast the user was listening to at the moment it was interrupted.
Buick’s user experience designers are also pushing the Avenir’s technologies for home integration, which would allow accessing home security cameras or the capability of turning on outside lights and closing a garage door that was inadvertently left open.
“The Avenir’s integration features build on the technologies already available or coming soon in smartphones and streamline them in a system that makes accessing and interacting with them easier,” said Wetzel.
Personal connectivity extends to rear-seat passengers, where USB ports and video screens allow occupants to plug in to their favorite media and slip into complete relaxation, arriving at their destination refreshed and rejuvenated.
“The use of color, material, form and amenities can affect a person’s mood and feeling,” said Wetzel. “The Avenir is a showcase of thoughtful and modern design with the capacity to anticipate and facilitate the personal needs of its occupants. It’s absolutely its own getaway destination.”
