New Opel Vivaro-e: For Emissions-Free Deliveries

New Opel Vivaro-e


Opel Vivaro-e is the first all-electric commercial vehicle from the German automotive manufacturer and it arrives on the market just as the emission-free delivery of goods and services is becoming a must in many areas. Available in three lengths and with many body variants, the new battery electric Vivaro-e enables professionals to benefit from uncompromised zero-emission, door-to-door mobility – well beyond the sole “last mile”. All-new Opel Vivaro-e is a fully functional LCV for businesses with the highest demands that expect vehicles to fit seamlessly into their optimised work processes. Order books are due to open this summer, followed by first deliveries during the course of the year. Vivaro-e is produced in the same plant on the same line as the versions with diesel engines.


“As the first all-electric light commercial vehicle to enter the Van-D market segment of medium-sized vans, and featuring a range of up to 330 kilometres in the WLTP cycle, the new Opel Vivaro-e sets the standards for ease of use, dependability and professionalism,” said Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller.


While Opel Vivaro-e is as versatile and flexible as any other Vivaro, its payloads are comparable to those of similar LCVs with internal combustion engines: with 1,275 kg, the Vivaro-e offers a payload almost as high as the Cargo S 2.0-litre diesel versions (maximum payload 1,405 kg). E-van is also the only electrified vehicle from an automobile manufacturer available ex works with an optional trailer hitch that allows a maximum towing capacity of 1,000 kg.

Vivaro-e customers can choose between two sizes of lithium ion battery, depending on their needs: with 75 kWh for up to 330 km or, for those who have a less intensive daily use of their vehicle, with 50 kWh and a range of up to 230 kilometres, both in the WLTP 1 test cycle. The batteries consist of 18 and 27 modules respectively. As a battery electric version was planned from the beginning, the batteries are packaged under the loading space in such a way that they do not compromise usage.

A sophisticated regenerative braking system, which recovers the energy produced under braking or deceleration, further increases efficiency.

With 100 kW (136 hp) and 260 Nm of torque from the electric propulsion system, Opel Vivaro‑e offers higher performance than most electric commercial vehicles. The electronically controlled maximum speed of 130 km/h enables Autobahn speed while also preserving the electric range. The battery located under the load compartment further lowers the centre of gravity, which benefits the cornering and wind stability of the Opel Vivaro-e even when it is fully loaded, while also contributing to higher driving pleasure.

Electric mobility made easy: variety of charging options, “OpelConnect” e-services


Fulfilling to perfection its role as dependable partner for large and small fleets, artisans and businesses, Opel Vivaro-e is as easy to charge as it is to use. Via wall box, fast charging or even a cable for charging from a domestic plug socket if necessary, every Vivaro-e is ready for a variety of charging options.

Using a 100 kW DC public charging station, charging of the 50 kWh battery to 80 per cent state-of-charge takes around only 30 minutes (around 45 minutes for the 75 kWh battery). Opel offers on-board chargers that ensure that charging times are as fast as possible and that the battery (covered by an eight-year/160,000km guarantee) has a long life. Depending on the market and infrastructure, the Vivaro-e features a powerful three-phase 11 kW on-board charger or a single-phase 7.4 kW on-board charger as standard.

Offer of cables and wall boxes varies according to the energy infrastructure of each market, ensuring that Vivaro-e customers can find and make use of a charging station almost anywhere.


In order to make using the Vivaro-e even more practical, “OpelConnect”, the “myOpel” app and “Free2Move Services” – the mobility brand of Groupe PSA – offer special solutions for electric vehicles. Services are accessible via apps.


“Charge My Car” function from the “Free2Move Services” app enables access to more than 140,000 charging points throughout Europe, including payment. To make it even easier for customers to choose the right charging point, the “Free2Move Services” app makes a preselection based on the distance to the charging point, the charging speed and the current charging price of the possible public charging options.


With the “OpelConnect” e-remote control functions, customers can use their smartphones to check the battery’s state-of-charge or programme air conditioning and charging times.


In addition, the “OpelConnect” portfolio ranges from eCall and breakdown calls to numerous other services, such as vehicle status and information. LIVE Navigation2 provides online traffic information in real time.

BEV for all tasks: crew cab, platform cab, people carrier, up to 6.6 m3 cargo volume


Opel has tailored the Vivaro-e to cater for a variety of customer needs, including crew cab, platform cab and people carrier, with payloads of up to 1,275 kg and gross vehicle weights ranging from 2,800 to 3,100 kg. Particularly compact 4.60-metre version closes the gap between the van and the transporter segments. With a turning circle of only 11.3 m, it is also very agile in tight spaces. As most variants are about 1.90 m tall, the Vivaro-e can access parking in basements or shopping centres with low roofs.


Thanks to the practical FlexCargo load-through on the front passenger side, the 4.6 m3-cargo capacity of the S increases to 5.1 m3. This enables transportation of objects up to 3.32 m in length.

4.95 m and 5.30 m M and L versions have maximum cargo capacities of 5.8 and 6.6 m3 respectively. Ladders or panels up to 3.67 or 4.02 m in length can be stowed securely, while the multitude of storage areas in the cockpit (which features an electric parking brake) comfortably accommodate numerous smaller items.

Vivaro-e’s wide rear and sliding side doors give unrestricted access to the cargo area or passenger compartment. Especially practical are the electric sliding side doors that open automatically – a movement of the foot is all it takes to open the doors from outside the vehicle.

Assistance systems galore: from Automatic Emergency Braking to Drowsiness Alert

Like its siblings with internal combustion engines, Opel Vivaro-e offers an unusually wide range of driver assistance systems that enhance professionals’ safety. In addition to a Head Up Display, the Vivaro-e includes Lane Keep Assist, Extended Traffic Sign Recognition, Drowsiness Alert, Semi-Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking.

Ultrasonic sensors in the Vivaro-e’s front and rear aprons warn the driver of obstacles when parking and monitor the side blind spot. Depending on the equipment level, the 180 degrees rear-view camera image appears on the seven-inch touchscreen.

Multimedia Radio and Multimedia Navi Pro infotainment systems of the Vivaro-e come with the large 7.0-inch touchscreen. Both feature phone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Multimedia Navi Pro additionally features European navigation with 3D view.

Vivaro-e continues not only Opel’s electrification offensive, but also the Vivaro’s success story that began with the first generation in 2001.

Next electric Opel LCV, Combo-e, will arrive in 2021. Opel will offer an electrified version of every passenger car and LCV model by 2024.

Electric ! All-New Opel Mokka Takes to the Road

All-new Opel Mokka is on the road, still camouflaged but ready for the first important tests with Opel engineers. And it is electric ! Second-generation Opel Mokka is all-new and its new technology including e-power is being thoroughly tested, set up and validated before the market launch. Production will start in the fourth quarter of this year. First production cars will be electric and are due to arrive at customers in early 2021. Test cars hint at who is behind the camouflage: a large yellow K on the green-black flanks of the test vehicles – K as in Mokka. Yes, simply Mokka.

New generation dispenses with the X-appendix in the name – as did the bestselling first generation on its debut in 2012. Back then, Opel Mokka impressed with its compact dimensions and sturdy looks. New model is likewise small and robust, but in a much more progressive and modern way - even more closely tailored to driving in the city, even more stylish to make a big impression. Extra efficient, clear and bold, and of course all-electric, right from the start of sales. Customers can enjoy the exciting purely Battery-Electric Version (BEV) but it will also be available with combustion engines.

Take a Deep Breath – Thanks to Pollen Filters in Every New Opel

As the temperature rises, people with hay fever start to suffer. Those traveling in an Opel automobile can count themselves lucky. Since 2000, all Opel cars are equipped as standard with various filter systems – either original Opel particle or activated carbon filters. Tradition-rich German carmaker installs mainly activated carbon combination filters. These consist of two layers and can therefore not only keep particles out the interior, but also filter out gases such as ozone and odours, thanks to the activated carbon. Best of all, pollen is almost 100 per cent eliminated, so that buyers of both new and used Opel cars can breathe deeply while driving.

"Quality of the activated carbon combination filter surpasses the market standards in numerous areas and in some cases even meets requirements for fine particulate filters," says Product Manager, Sandra Schmickler. Filter material is water-repellent, which prevents it from freezing in winter or becoming home to bacteria. Despite the high filter performance, a good air permeability is ensured. The filter should be changed once a year.

In many cases, the activated carbon combination filter can also be retrofitted – even to older Opel models such as the Calibra or the Vectra C. Retrofitting can be a bit tricky and is therefore best carried out by an Opel dealer.

Correct behaviour in the pollen season

"In general, with high pollen concentration, you should only drive a car with the windows closed," recommends Opel’s chief medical officer, Dr. Anne-Marie Albuszies. This also benefits road safety – if drivers have to sneeze more often, risk of accidents increases. It is best to get advice beforehand about the current pollen forecast, for example, from the local weather service. "In the coming weeks, the hazel allergies will start, as well as ash and birch," explains Dr. Albuszies. Over the summer, grass becomes the problem. Hay fever can plague allergy sufferers March through October.

Motorists should also definitely refrain from medication, because the so-called antihistamines make you drowsy. Clothes should be taken off in the bathroom, not in the bedroom, adds the physician, and hair washed in the evening so that pollen does not get on the pillow. A rinse with sodium chloride in the morning and evening calms an irritated nose and a damp cloth over the eyes soothes the itching.

How much range is left? How can I charge my Opel Corsa-e or Opel Grandland X Plug-in-Hybrid as cheaply as possible and how can I simply precondition the interior? The new “myOpel” app delivers the answers to these questions. With the app and a smartphone, you can find out the state of charge, select the charging time and start the air conditioning at any time. “myOpel” app also gives reminders about important appointments, such as for servicing.

Opel Grandland X Hybrid4 and Opel Corsa-e

A clever system calculates the range displayed by the “myOpel” app. It not only considers the state of charge of the battery, but also the previous driving style. If the Corsa-e is driven particularly efficiently, this energy-saving driving style is reflected accordingly in the range. However, if the Corsa-e is driven more sportily, the display shows a different range forecast, even if the state of charge was identical. Realistic range forecasts therefore make the “myOpel” app a reliable partner for the next journey.


Programme charging times and use cheaper electricity


Second remote-controlled function concerns charging management. When Opel Corsa-e or Grandland X Plug-in-Hybrid is plugged in, users can specify a certain time when charging should begin. If electricity is cheaper at night and higher prices during the day are avoided, this can save money.


Opel Corsa-e as well as the Opel Grandland X Plug-in-Hybrid also features as standard air conditioning that can be programmed via the “myOpel” app. Preconditioning allows setting of the interior temperature before the drive has even begun, regardless of whether the outside temperature is minus 10 or plus 30 degrees Celsius.

Relaxed Electro-Mobility with Opel and Free2Move Services App

Find charging stations, pay comfortably via invoice and be prepared for all eventualities. New Free2Move Services app makes it easier to get a good start into the world of electro-mobility. Opel Corsa-e or Grandland X plug-in hybrid drivers can book the “Charge My Car” service pack for €4.99 per month (RRP incl. VAT in Germany) and gain full access to all services via the app.


Charging point finder lists all registered charging stations on a map. In addition to the exact address, the finder can also say at the time of enquiry whether the charging point is free or occupied. In combination with the navigation system in the Corsa-e, the route guidance considers the battery’s state of charge, traffic jams, blocked roads and weather conditions, which all can influence not only the route but also the range of the Corsa-e. Based on these parameters, the navigation system calculates the optimum route and recommends stops and points for recharging. The app simplifies fleet management and avoids unnecessary paperwork for company car drivers, compiling all the energy costs in a monthly invoice.


App, which bundles together all the services for electro-mobility, is a product of the Free2Move mobility brand of Groupe PSA. The Free2Move portfolio features various services, such as those for electric mobility. Free2Move also offers Free2Move Lease in Germany since October 2019.

“Charging Pass” for authentication and invoicing

Registered customers who have booked the “Charge My Car” service pack receive by post a “Charging Pass”, which serves as authentication at charging stations. During registration, the customer nominates a credit card for the monthly billing of the Opel Corsa-e’s or Opel Grandland X plug-in hybrid’s  charging costs. Of special interest to company car drivers and fleet managers: the app shows not only the current bill, but the documentation also enables access to older invoices. The collection of individual receipts, as with conventional fuels, is therefore unnecessary.


In order to find the next charging station, the Free2Move Services app can currently choose from more than 140,000 charging points throughout Europe. Two thousand of the 24,000 listed charging points in Germany allow fast and super recharging of the Opel Corsa-e’s battery.

Dynamic route guidance based on traffic, weather and state of charge


Free2Move Services app sets standards for dynamic route planning. If the traffic situation or the energy consumption change, not only is the route guidance adapted but also the planning for the next recharging stop. For example, if a road closure makes a longer diversion necessary, the app recommends an earlier recharging stop. Plan also suggests an optimum duration for the recharge, in order to arrive at the destination as quickly as possible. If the battery recharges to only 70 instead of 80 per cent state of charge, for example, the app reacts by adapting the route guidance accordingly at the next manual restart.
