"Designed for social elites, it offers an unmatched experience in the premium midsize SUV segment. It complements the Enclave and Encore in Buick’s SUV portfolio."

Buick’s “Route Awakening” China Culture Tour led by the Buick Envision team headed off for Tibet.

Dynamic and Premium Design

The Envision carries forward the design essence of the Buick Envision concept vehicle, reflecting Buick's modern design language. The design is stylish and sporty. It comes with a new intelligent drag-reducing grille, wing-style front and rear lights with LED lamps inside, curved flank lines, 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels, an aluminum alloy luggage rack and a wing-shaped spoiler.

It is offered in five exterior colors: Snowy White, Glacier Silver, Pearl Black, Topaz Brown and Sky Purple.

The Envision adopts Buick's signature 360-degree integrated interior design. With its driver-friendly center console, all controls are within easy reach. Customers have a choice of a Burgundy or Swallowtail Black interior. Black piano accents create a premium effect. French-style dual stitching further accentuates the model's elegance.

The Envision measures 4,667 mm in length, 1,839 mm in width and 1,696 mm in height, and rides on a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. This gives it a roomy interior. Its split rear seats fold flat and can slide forward or backward to provide up to 1,550 liters of space for carrying cargo. In addition, there are 24 storage compartments.

Powerful and Efficient Powertrain

The Envision comes with GM’s latest-generation 2.0T Direct Injection turbocharged engine. The engine was named one of Ward's 10 Best Engines for 2013. It generates maximum power of 191 kW at 5,500 rpm and peak torque of 353 Nm at 5,300 rpm, with power per liter reaching 95.5 kW/L. The capable powerplant takes the Envision from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds.

The engine is mated to GM's all-new six-speed DSS intelligent transmission, which is smooth, responsive and efficient. The Envision is the only vehicle in its segment that comes with the engine start/stop system as standard across its lineup. It supports class-leading combined fuel economy of 8.8 L/100 km.

Buick Intelligent All-Wheel Drive

The Envision also comes with a new, intelligent all-wheel-drive system, which provides a variable front-to-rear torque split and a 0:100~100:0 rear torque split. Offered for the first time by GM, this system features two electronically controlled multi-plate clutches in the rear axle automatically distribute torque from the front to rear wheels and between the rear wheels as needed. This makes it more responsive, flexible and efficient, and provides a more exceptional driving experience with enhanced ride comfort and dynamics than conventional all-wheel-drive systems.

The Envision's chassis consists of a MacPherson strut front suspension, an optimized and fully independent four-link rear suspension, and a full front subframe. This gives the SUV exceptional rigidity and precise handling. The class-leading FlexRide system provides four selectable driving modes – Normal, Tour, Sport and Off-Road – for a personalized driving experience.

High-Strength Structure and All-New Intelligent Safety System

In line with Buick’s focus on safety, 75 percent of the Envision's body is made of high-strength steel, with 13 percent made of ultra-high-strength steel. Key areas such as the A-pillar, B-pillar, roof and driver's foot fender are made of ultra-high-strength hot-pressed steel. Door plates are four times stronger than those made of ordinary steel.

The Envision comes with Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane-Keeping Assist, Following Distance Indicator, Forward Collision Alert, Collision Mitigation Braking, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and intelligent Xenon headlights.

It also comes with anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, electronic stability control, a traction control system and Hill Start Assist as standard across the line. Options include Hill Descent Control, OnStar and the Automatic Parking Assist system.

Cutting-Edge Technology and Customer-Friendly Amenities

The Envision is equipped with an advanced connectivity system, which is a human-computer interactive platform specifically designed for Buick. The system connects the vehicle with people and their smartphones. It includes an eight-inch high-definition touchscreen, multifunctional buttons on the steering wheel, a touchpad and voice control.

The Envision is the first vehicle in its segment in China to come standard with Active Noise Cancellation technology, which reads sound waves through microphones inside the vehicle and produces an opposite sound wave from speakers to counteract it. The vehicle also employs Buick's state-of-the-art Quiet-Tuning® technology, which reduces, blocks or absorbs noise. These technologies include the use of liquid applied sound dampers (LASD). Compared with traditional sound insulating pads, LASD are not only lighter and greener, but also deliver better sound-proofing and shock-absorbing performance.

High-tech elements can also be seen in the Envision's amenities and functions. For example, the all-new intelligent drag-reducing intake grille shuts automatically to lower wind drag and reduce fuel consumption when the vehicle starts or operates at high speeds. The rear power liftgate can be completely or partially opened by adjusting the opening height in three levels. The top-of-the-line Envision variant features a foot-sensing function to allow hands-free opening of the liftgate.

Other amenities include a standard large panoramic sunroof; front power seats with heating, cooling and ventilation functions; and a heated sport steering wheel.

!NEW! Top Model: New Opel Corsa E Makes World Premiere in Paris

  • Ultra-modern powertrains: Economical, lively engines and low-friction gearboxes
  • Comprehensive safety: New assistance systems such as Front Collision Warning
  • First-class interior: Clearly laid-out cockpit and top connectivity thanks to IntelliLink
  • Attractive entry-level price: Now available from 11,980 euros

New Opel Corsa E makes its world premiere at the “Mondial de l’Automobile 2014” in Paris from October 4 to 19.
Raise the curtain on a real star. It is undisputedly a bestseller, a small car of the finest quality: the Opel Corsa. Across four generations spanning 32 years, almost 12 million units have been sold across Europe, including 2.8 million of the current Corsa D. Now Opel’s bestseller makes its world premiere at the “Mondial de l’Automobile 2014” in Paris (October 4 - 19). Following a week of haute couture at the Paris Fashion Week, the Corsa will bring haute voiture to the French capital.

The fifth generation will roll off the assembly lines in Eisenach and Zaragoza before the end of the year. For the attractive entry-level price of 11,980 euros, the Corsa E can now be ordered in Germany in its sporty three-door bodystyle with a gasoline engine. Efficient driving fun with the diesel variant can be had for prices starting at 14,930 euros. For just 750 euros more, the new Corsa is available as a comfortable, family-friendly five-door model (RRP incl. VAT in Germany).

Engine highlight: Completely new 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo

High-class, compact, sophisticated: At just 4.02 meter in length, the new Corsa offers qualities in terms of driving fun, precision and comfort with a premium touch that customers are otherwise only familiar with from larger and more expensive cars. But it’s not just about looks in the city of fashion – what’s under the packaging is also important in Paris. The highlight under the Corsa E’s hood is the newly-developed three-cylinder, 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo, part of the brand’s major powertrain offensive. This ultra-modern pocket powerhouse is the only 1.0-liter three-cylinder production engine with a balance shaft, which enables it to set a new class benchmark for exceptionally low noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics, as well as high driving comfort. The compact, all-aluminum 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo, which of course already meets Euro 6 emission standards, is available in two output configurations, giving 66 kW/90 hp or 85 kW/115 hp for prices starting at 14,480 euros (three-door) or 15,230 euros (five-door). Both shine with excellent responsiveness and strong low-end torque, pumping out 170 Nm from just 1,800 rpm. This is particularly evident during acceleration from 80 to 120 km/h, an exceptionally important speed range for overtaking, when this compact powerhouse belies its size by delivering strong power from low rpm. The Corsa with the 115 hp makes this transition in just 11.3 seconds. Opel’s powerful new, 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo fitted with Start/Stop technology as standard also boasts exemplary economy: the 90 hp three-door version consumes just 4.3 liters gasoline per 100 km in the combined cycle.

New, refined and efficient 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo engines
The new Corsa’s gasoline powertrain line-up is also extended with the introduction of a new 74 kW/100 hp 1.4-liter turbo engine with 200 Nm maximum torque, as well as further developed, Euro 6 compliant 1.2 and 1.4-liter naturally-aspirated units giving 51 kW/70 hp and 66 kW/90 hp. In addition, completely revised, more refined and now also Euro 6 compliant 1.3 CDTI engines with 55 kW/75 hp and 70 kW/95 hp expand the Corsa offer on the diesel side. New-generation turbo chargers ensure smooth driving and acceleration at low engine speeds with minimal noise generation. Both versions come with fuel-saving Start/Stop technology fitted as standard. At launch, the most frugal Corsa diesel version – with 70 kW/95 hp, 5-speed manual transmission and braking energy recuperation system – can reduce the three-door model‘s CO2 emissions down to 85 g/km and fuel consumption down to 3.2 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle. This earns it the German A+ energy efficiency label (according to Regulation [EC] No 715/2007).

But it is not just completely new and further developed engines that make driving the new Corsa even more fun and comfortable. The introduction of new transmissions also contributes to the enhanced driving experience and improvement in efficiency. Both versions of the 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo are mated to an all-new, compact six-speed manual gearbox. Highlights include greater efficiency, thanks to low friction design and a precise shift feel. Changing gears in the new Corsa is comfortable and smooth, as well as fast and precise. With the launch of the new Corsa, Opel also offers its newest-generation six-speed automatic transmission, as well as the completely new automated manual transmission Easytronic 3.0 giving enhanced, smoother responsiveness – the perfect way to affordably combine the comfort of an automatic with the efficiency of a manual. The new Easytronic 3.0 is available for just 575 euros more than the five-speed manual transmission, and in the 66 kW/90 hp Corsa 1.4 ecoFLEX, fuel consumption can be reduced down to 4.7 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle, equaling CO2 emissions of 110 g/km. Start/Stop technology is always on board.

Top safety and best connectivity: IntelliLink and Assistance systems

The Corsa’s high-quality cabin is also stylish, modern and trendsetting. The cleanly designed cockpit is organized around an eye-catching driver control center and the instrument panel fascia. The optional IntelliLink infotainment system’s 7-inch color touchscreen is ideally located on the center stack between driver and front passenger. Opel’s award-winning infotainment system offers best connectivity opportunities, is compatible with Apple and Android devices and can be operated by voice command. Bluetooth and Siri Eyes Free can also be used. Several apps are available such as BringGo for navigation, as well as Stitcher and TuneIn for internet radio. Opel offers IntelliLink for Edition trim versions and above for just 300 euros.

The Corsa E introduces a host of driver assistance systems, many of which are unrivalled in its vehicle class. The Bi-Xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights and cornering lights impress with lower power consumption, longer service life and improved range, brightness and color intensity – a decisive plus for visibility and safety. Driving comfort is improved by the Advanced Park Assist (APA) that automatically steers during parking maneuvers. The Side Blind Spot Alert (SBSA) sensors have a range of three meters to the left and right of the vehicle, and also detect objects or other vehicles in the driver’s ‘blind spots’. Whenever another vehicle comes within range of the sensors, a warning LED illuminates in the relevant outside door mirror. The optional combined pack, comprising the up-level functionalities of Park Assist and Side Blind Spot Alert, is offered for just 580 euros.

Hill Start Assist (HSA) comes as standard and maintains the brake function for about two seconds after the driver has taken his/her foot off the brake pedal. This prevents the Corsa from rolling back when starting on a slope or, for instance, when driving off from traffic lights or a parking spot on a hill. High-tech extras such as the optional Rearview Camera for 295 euros can also be integrated, and safety is increased thanks to new systems – such as the second-generation Opel Eye front camera with Road Sign Recognition (RSR), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), High Beam Assist (HBA), Following Distance Indication (FDI) and Forward Collision Warning (FCW). To provide maximum safety, Forward Collision Warning uses an acoustic alert and a red, head-up warning that is projected into the windscreen as soon as the distance to the preceding vehicle car falls below the pre-set minimum distance. The standard Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) display warns the driver in the event of excessive pressure loss in one of the tires.

The new, speed-sensitive electric power steering features a new steering geometry and steering software calibration for more precise response and improved driving pleasure and comfort. A new standard feature that allows reduced steering effort at low speeds, the City mode is easily activated at the press of a button. The steering wheel, front seats and the ThermaTec windshield can all be heated to provide cozy warmth in the cabin and good visibility on cold days.

The Mokka also brings an exciting and engaging driving experience, German engineering and innovative technology to the growing sub-compact SUV segment.

“Over 240 000 Mokka orders have been placed in Europe – this is not only an exceptionally important factor in the growth of the Opel brand on a global level, but also proves that Mokka is a worthy contender in a segment which is experiencing exponential growth all over the world. With Mokka we expect to see a new group of savvy consumers gravitate towards the Opel brand, who seek a fashionable sub-compact SUV which is exciting to drive and offers the solid quality and precision of a German-engineered product,” concludes Cradock.

Engines, specifications and model derivatives will be confirmed closer to the time of launch.

!NEW! GM sales in Africa continues to grow

General Motors South Africa today reaffirmed its growth plans in Africa at a media briefing held in Johannesburg.

According to Mario Spangenberg, President of GM Africa, the company has invested over R1.7 billion in its Africa operations in recent years. He said the investment was geared at strengthening the company’s manufacturing base in North Africa through its Egypt operation and in Sub-Saharan Africa through its South Africa and Kenya operations. “We are now ideally placed to service our markets across the continent through these three assembly plants and also our footprint of over 300 dealers,” Spangenberg said.

As the company continues to grow its sales volumes in African markets, particularly in the light commercial vehicle segment, Spangenberg said it was important to focus on efficient and competitive manufacturing operations in all three countries – South Africa, Kenya and Egypt. “In addition, we are also expanding our distribution footprint across the continent and ensure effective and quality after sales service to our customers.”

To this end General Motors has seen 17 new facilities and show rooms open in Angola, Madagascar, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Algeria (4) Egypt (4) and Ghana in the last 18 months. “Later this year new dealerships will open in Uganda and Mauritius,” said Spangenberg.

Meanwhile the 38 000 m²  Parts Distribution Centre located in Port Elizabeth is now fully geared up to provide the required parts and service support to distributors on the continent.

Spangenberg said despite the decline in sales in the automotive industry in Africa during the first seven months of the year, GM sales continued to grow. “Within our Africa Operations we sold around 107 000 vehicles during the first seven months of this year. Overall our sales in Africa were up almost 7% versus an industry decline of 4.9%,

“We have achieved tremendous success in some key markets during this period versus the same period last year. Egypt sales were up 16.5% while Tunisia were up 34.6% and in East Africa volumes went up 32.5%. In Sub-Saharan markets (outside of South Africa and including East Africa) we were up 28.8%.

To keep momentum going on the sales front, Spangenberg said GM will continue to bring outstanding products to market. “Over the next 12 months, we will be launching 10 new vehicles into our Africa markets.  Of these new vehicles, 7 will be launched in the South African market.”

The all-new Cruze is among the first vehicles to take advantage of GM’s new Ecotec small engine portfolio.

Its 1.4T SIDI engine generates maximum output of 110 kW and peak torque of 235 Nm. The turbocharged engine is offered with a choice of a new seven-speed Dual Clutch Gearbox (DCG) transmission or a six-speed manual transmission. The transmissions provide smooth gear shifting and enhanced reliability while contributing to the sedan’s fuel efficiency.

The 1.5 SIDI engine, the segment’s only naturally aspirated engine with direct injection, generates maximum output of 84 kW and peak torque of 146 Nm. It is paired with a new six-speed Dynamic Start/Stop Shift (DSS) automatic transmission, which provides precise gear shifting.

Its mid-mounted direct injection engine technology and wide range of fuel-saving features such as start/stop technology and ultra-low rolling resistance tires make the new Cruze up to 24 percent more fuel efficient than the current-generation Cruze. The engines offer peak fuel economy of only 5.9 liters per 100 km. In addition, they are up to 50 percent quieter than engines in competitive models.

Customer-Friendly Features and World-Class Safety

The all-new Cruze's peerless people-oriented technologies start with the Chevrolet MyLink 2.0 infotainment system. Its best-in-class eight-inch multi-point touchscreen serves as the operation window for intelligent navigation, personalized built-in apps (My Chevrolet, Driving Assist, Cloud Radio and Cloud Phone) and Siri Eyes Free functionality.

Chevrolet MyLink II system - eight-inch multi-point touchscreen serves as the operation window for intelligent navigation, personalized built-in apps (My Chevrolet, Driving Assist, Cloud Radio and Cloud Phone) and Siri Eyes Free functionality.

Developed to meet global five-star safety standards, the all-new Cruze comes with a range of active and passive safety features. It is the only vehicle in its class with active park assist, which takes the worry out of parking. The side blind zone alert system warns the driver of potential hazards when changing lanes. The model’s air bags are designed to protect pedestrians as well as occupants.

Shanghai GM introduced the Chevrolet Cruze sedan in 2009. It later added a hatchback to the Cruze lineup. More than 1.1 million Cruzes have reached China’s roads, making it one of Chevrolet’s most popular models in the market.

!NEW! Tools from 3D Printer Make Car Manufacturing Easier at Opel

  • Rüsselsheim’s Virtual Engineering Team exploits potential of 3D printing
  • 40 assembly tools from 3D printer to be used in production of Opel ADAM ROCKS
  • Leading role in 3D printing within GM Group

Already part of everyday life at Opel: 40 assembly tools made by a 3D printer are used in the production of the Opel ADAM ROCKS.
For some, it may still seem like a long way off, but it’s already part of everyday life at Opel: assembly tools produced by a 3D printer are an increasingly important part of the production process. A six-strong team led by Virtual Simulation Engineer Sascha Holl prints plastic assembly tools in Rüsselsheim which are used in Opel manufacturing plants across Europe. Cheaper and quicker to produce, these tools are being used at Eisenach for the assembly of the Opel ADAM and its new Opel ADAM ROCKS stable-mate. And this is just the beginning – Opel experts predict the use of tools from a 3D printer will continue to grow. “In the future, more and more 3D assembly tools will be integrated into the production process,” says Sascha Holl.

For production of the Opel ADAM ROCKS, to be launched in September, the Eisenach carmakers use an assembly jig – a specific, fixed frame – made by a 3D printer to produce the vehicle name logotype on the side window. And for the windshield, a 3D-printed inlet guide is also used to simplify the mounting process and help ensure a precise alignment. Other tools from the printer are used to fasten the chrome step plate on Opel ADAM ROCKS door openings and install the standard Swing Top canvas roof. Around 40 such assembly aids and jigs are used in Eisenach.

This equipment was developed on the computer during the development phase of Opel ADAM ROCKS. “It enables us to quickly adapt the parts. If something changes on the vehicle, we can easily modify the tool with just a few clicks,” explains Holl. “The 3D printing process enables us to produce every imaginable form and shape. Unlike conventional manufacturing technology, we don’t have to accept any limitations.”

The Virtual Engineering Team in Rüsselsheim only has to reach into their bag of tricks when it comes to the maximum size of parts built. Using sophisticated technology to join a number of smaller elements, it is possible to produce larger parts. For instance, when developing an assembly aid for the side sill or the rear spoiler of Opel ADAM ROCKS.

During 3D printing, plastic is melted and laid down in successive layers, each just 0.25 mm thick. The plastic used is light, robust and versatile. Hollow spaces and overhangs are automatically treated with a filling material, which is later washed away in a type of dishwasher. “The process is comparable to bridge or balustrade construction,” says Holl. “There high or protruding elements must also be shored up and supported until everything has hardened off. Only then is the supporting framework removed.”

The small number of jigs required in final assembly was previously made by hand in an elaborate process using a milled cast and resin. Thanks to 3D printing, the production cost of these aids is now reduced by up to 90 percent. In addition, the printed tools are ready to use after just about eight hours, and are up to 70 percent lighter in weight. Another advantage is that these aids can be mechanically and chemically processed. For example, they can be drilled, milled, sanded, varnished and bonded, or connected and combined with various other materials. Ergonomic fine-tuning can also be carried out on a PC in a matter of minutes. “We can adapt the tools for each assembly situation, as well as make them user-friendly for our colleagues on the line,” adds Holl.

Production of the Opel Insignia and Opel Cascada convertible also benefits from 3D printer tools, which will be introduced step-by-step for the assembly of other Opel models. The new Corsa, Vivaro and Mokka SUV, which will begin rolling off the assembly lines in Zaragoza later this year, will be among models built with the help of tools from a 3D printer. The unconventional urban lifestyle car Opel ADAM is thrilling experts and customers alike. It has already won a host of awards and set new standards in the lifestyle-oriented small car segment. The ADAM’s popularity makes it a ubiquitous sight on the road: since its market launch in early 2013, Opel has received over 100,000 orders for the individualization champion – including around 3,000 for the new ADAM ROCKS. The mini-crossover will be in dealerships at the end of September, offering drivers even more thrills and excitement thanks to its newest-generation, ultra-modern and super-efficient 1.0-liter direct injection turbo gasoline engine, further customization options and Swing Top canvas roof.

Opel ADAM ROCKS - Rugged individuality with open air fun. The standard SwingTop canvas roof gives quick access to the sky above.

“Customer demand for the Opel ADAM shows us that this type of car has been missing on the market – a car that expresses its owner’s personality, that offers almost limitless customization possibilities and that makes a real statement,” says Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann, Chairman of the Board Opel Group. “And for the adventure-loving ADAM drivers, we now have the robust ADAM ROCKS in the line-up – extremely unconventional and totally cool.”

Opel ADAM ROCKS
The urban crossover newcomer shares this model line’s exceptional characteristic: almost every single car is unique. With fresh colors, different roof design options and numerous interior combinations, the ADAM ROCKS can be personalized as extensively as its stable-mates. Protective, anthracite-colored body cladding and silver skid plates enhance its tough, muscular look. The Swing Top canvas roof opens up at the touch of button in just five seconds to offer pure open-air driving fun.

The Opel ADAM and ADAM ROCKS models showcase the arrival of an all-new development under its hood. In addition to familiar naturally-aspirated gasoline engines, Opel is offering its powerful and efficient 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo for the first time, mated to an all-new, low-friction six-speed manual transmission. The all-aluminum three-cylinder unit is available with output of 66 kW/90 hp and the top-of-the-line 85 kW/115 hp, delivering exemplary fuel consumption and emissions values, while providing top running smoothness and performance. The 90 hp version enables CO2 emissions of just 99 g/km – an excellent value for a gasoline-powered vehicle.

Opel ADAM ROCKS - IntelliLink infotainment system familiar from the ADAM, with all its multi-media connectivity options and apps
ADAM ROCKS also features Opel‘s award-winning IntelliLink infotainment system familiar from the ADAM, with all its multi-media connectivity options and apps. The infotainment system has a 7-inch color touchscreen and is fully compatible with the latest ANDROID and Apple iOS-based smartphones. It is not only safe and easy to operate, it is also extremely affordable at only 300 euros, making ROCKS the best connected small car on the market, just like its ADAM stable-mates.
